I won’t die on this hill because I respect other people’s choice to bring whatever they want. I might make suggestions but I’m not gonna make it an issue. So far we’ve been able to continue even with suboptimal loadouts but I have a feeling we’ll hit a wall at some point
And that’s a bridge we can cross when we get to it. But I don’t particularly mind the artificial handicap created by the opportunity cost of not choosing certain weapons lol

i try not to run sawed off scatter/helgun/helrifle all the time because it really does get boring after a while (at least to me)
there are plenty of “suboptimal” weapons that perform well enough to justify bringing along on missions that are also fun
spicing things up with worse weapons can make the game more fun imo
It can certainly make it more challenging
machine pistol, short rifle, and revolver are some of my favorite weapons outside the meta
i like subbing in one or more alongside something stronger for funsies
machine pistol/scatter is one of my favorite loadouts

covers most bases and you can get some delicious multikills through staggering with mp and hitting the piled up enemies with scatter
using machinepistol for stagger is just sad
short rifle feels really good despite being horrible lmao

the humble autoclicker allowing to quickly dump your load all over a bbc
but usually one or two bullets to the head is a light stagger and you can use that to make them bunch up for more multi’s

FreeThySelf unfortunately only works on some of the softlocks. For example, it will work on the R5D2 one but it will never work on both R7C1 softlocks to name 2 levels
That is why I’ve been gathering information on every single softlock in the game to write a definitive one so you don’t get softlocked in the first place

you can set it to players only if you dont want any bots
it can probably be improved to work generally by tp-ing to nearest valid navmesh location
the navmesh can be filtered using flood technique to ensure its filtered of bad locations like roof, etc...
(that's how replay generates a pretty clean navmesh itself)
Agree. The R7C1 softlocks are due to the same root cause in different geomorphs: a capsulecollider is misaligned with the pipes and when players walk on it, they get stuck in the gap (partially in the floor)
yeah all freethyselve does is push you up some units, but putting u on a nearest valid navmesh should account for all situations

The game only allows one keybind per button, so what you do is click on key1, set it to use the button which key 2 uses. This unbinds key2. Then go back to key2, and put the keybind back on. This unbinds key1

also 3m is close range aggro, around 12m is long range aggro which is the one that needs the dude to glow and is also rng dependant
so 3m or less is insta 100% wake up got it

if you get stuck too long tbh just do r3 then come back to r2e1, r3 isn't very long
Personally, id recommend ignoring e tier missions until all other missions are complete (but id leave all of r8 untouched)
i feel like that's a bit of an over extension of the get more experience before doing E tiers
we got told that a couple of times but we're just too stubborn
we got through r2d2 after a month playing every night

if an enemy is too close, there is always a high chance that they wake up, it is not 100%, so sometimes you can be lucky
but in your case I would just attack the giants with 3 people and that 1 striker with the other guy, should be quite easy because you 4 were next to each other anyways
it is 100%, it's just that there is a 3s cooldown or something between aggros like that so you can chain kill without close range aggro always triggering
oh, but when you wake up the small guy and then kill it, then it isn't 100%, right?
well if you woke it through short/long range aggro, then it is 0% for either of those to happen if you kill it quick enough
I usually wake it up by walking or flashlight
if you woke it through any other means (except scream), the dude will be the source of a long range aggro check with a 100% chance of occuring if one is glowing within range
(in that scenario the check occurs when the enemy wakes up and not when it dies i think)

random question about the tiles/geomorphs: ive been trying to look at the grid on the ingame map for reference on project stuff for the scale of the levels and geomorphs, but it never seems accurate - so does anyone know what size the actual geomorphs are, if they all have the same grid scale? like 50x50 whatever metric
im not asking for the accurate scale metric of the ingame map grid i mean (cause its always off center with the walls and stuff), im asking if all the geomorphs have a general border/grid size in wich the tiles are designed to fit - and what that grid size is in a 10x10 format if there is a general one
the biggest tiles (like the reactor bridge tile in r2d2, or the surge rooms in r2e1) are 64x64m
If youre playing with 3 people its still fairly easy to have the ammo at the end as long as your 2nd to last code hunters move quickly. As far as running, not opening boxes, foaming doors behind you, and only moving forward will allow you to get to extract with plenty of time to extract in peace.
the grid is 64x64 and all cell grid positions are in relation, vector3 0,0,0 in reality is actually at grid pos 20,20 and the grid is 40x40

there's maybe a couple
Not really, theres maybe a few in previous/reactor zones, but there are enough that even if you held onto them until youre on the security door, you can dely enough time with them
you should not have an issue reaching extraction in time AT ALL.
what path to extract are you taking? the standard route is to full sprint and hug left through the first zone (charge hammers for any chargers on path to avoid waking rooms). and then you do same through middle of 2nd zone

We sprinted maybe 60%
The c foam is less of the issue, if you take your time through the extraction zone sprint, you'll likely die. Moving fast is key
you should also spend your foam in the 2nd zone, on the 2 big doors you go through in the middle
i could go check the spawn table gimme a sec
because i believe that the tank(s) will path differently than you do through first zone if you close the doors behind you

another issue that you might be having is too many people shooting at once, if you’ve got four people, only like 2-3 really need to be shooting at any given time
I was using 3 burst smg the big wind up machine gun knife and standered turret
We have been doing that, must with your recent statement, that may be a fault of ours. (I.E. Using too much ammo earlier on)
(Regarding guns. We dont use manufacturer names, they are just not telling of what gun it is, aside from the machine guns where its veruta/arbalist)
hel auto isnt great with reactors generally, they EAT up tool refill
id suggest burst and sniper sentry for reactors

Its extremely niche and at a base value just runs out of ammo quickly for little value
Usually youd pick burst, with sniper sentry for big enemies.

I wouldnt mind it as much (checkpoints are pretty cursed) if the checkpoint placements of the mod werent atrocious at times
we do indeed have 1 min timer after after host spawns after reload
it's mainly there for simple fact to save up on boosters

Precision rifle is „ok“
If you hit headshots its pretty decent into small enemies and it can def help to kill a scout for code 5 if in a hurry
Machine pistol… so it obviously has bad range but full auto weapons are generally not good in this game either
Using boosters is obviously a personal choice
But I typically recommend not to use them
They are not required for the game AT ALL. The game isnt designed or balanced with them in mind and they can actually make learning the game harder
The checkpoint placements are "OK", we're just running into the funny issue with desync when loading checkpoints lmao.

but the last level
Its more from an experienced players pov
The placements later on are sometimes rly awful
Im not a fan of checkpoints since people usually just use them to beat their head into a wall. But they CAN def still be nice

If you are highly struggling with D2, E1 will be worse
Tempted, at 15+ attempts with only being able to co-ordinate to play on weekends. It's definitely itching
You are only gonna get recommendations to skip r2e1 for now
@real wyvern as general advice for r2d2:
Loadout:
- bio tracker (should always be on the team anyway)
- 2 burst sentries
- 1 sniper sentry
Always have at least 1 burst sentry down. Then either a sniper or a burst depending on if the wave has lots of giants/hybrids showing up or not.
Place all 3 when pressured/later into the level (and during alarms)
Main weapons:
- carbine: Easy to use, good choice. Medium range. Spamable as hell
- Burst rifle: similar, but less spamable. Better range
- Dmr: high range, hit headshots on smalls and you get tons of value
- Hel revolver: see above, but you also get penetrating/piercing rounds.
For both dmr/hel revolver learning about reloads cancels would be helpful - Sawed off: best main in the game. Understand the range you want to be in to kill (usually up to 8 meters is great)
Special weapons:
- hel rifle (for any enemy, massive penetration/piercing. 1 shots smalls anywhere. Giants get 4 shot to the body and scouts 1 shot to the head)
- hel gun: similar, but you need headshots for smalls to 1 shot (8 bodyshots for giants and doesnt front hs kill scouts)
- burst cannon (mainly giant answer but can be helpful for smalls too). Aim for centermass to 2 burst giants. Can be replaced with the sniper (just for this level, as sniper isnt great otherwise) sniper REALLY needs the giant headshots
Scattergun technically if your scattergun player is balls to the wall playing up close during waves (1 shots giants and can kill multiple smalls per shot easily)
High caliber pistol, revolver and such are solid choices too if you dont like the hel weapons. You lose pierce and range but the guns are still solid for this as wave clear options
Regarding defense setups:
Theres 3 ways peope play it usually
- Bridge hold (defend on bridge, near the spawn side security door. Later defend both sides of the bridge)
- bridge -> after 4th code defend in the1st room on north side on the high catwalk. Lets you fight enemies from only 1 side
- bridge -> after 4th code defend in the first room on south side. Close the left big door and open the small door and right big door to funnel enemies.
2 and especially 3 will have enemies take longer to get to you though than 1.
For code hunts:
shooting to clear faster is actually quite good (especially if no scouts)
Code 8 especially id recommend just shooting, running up and killing whats coming up. Then loot
For codes with scouts. Try to melee 1 in code 5 and shoot the other. Or shoot one and deal with the enemies inside donut room then the 12 from scout wave
Code 6. try to avoid wake ups in 2nd scout room usually
Clear faster (use ammo) -> loot more (have more ammo)

The scout "issues" we're decent at this point but refining that definitely doesn't hurt.
Fast clear to use less ammo to gain will definitely take another attempt or two to find the flow in that but definitely up for consideration if that'll help up even a bit!

reactor missions don't usually have checkpoints and checkpoints are already buggy in and of themselves, so they tend to break reactor timers fairly frequently
we only finished it because our checkpoints werent screwed up for once

I did some more testing with a friend and it does indeed seem related to alt-tab. Which is to say, if we alt-tab during the drop and then alt-tab back into the game after the drop is done, our audio is very quiet. This can be quickly fixed by simply visiting the vanilla audio menu then pressing escape to go back to the game.
I also installed your original Archive mod and am no longer using Hikaria's fork, so it seems like this audio bug is not exclusive to theirs.
Also, I'm using an interpolation of 5 seconds instead of 20, but it doesn't seem to matter. I bet that the bug occurs if you alt-tab during the interpolation regardless of its length
hi, im trying to get a bit better at the game so right now im attempting r1a1 solo. I'm having some trouble building a loadout and any help would be appreciated, i really like the revolver for my special, but i dont know what to bring for my main. i have tried out the sawed-off and i dont really like it and ive tried the carbine and i think i need more crowd control damage. ty for any help!

Dual revolvers might sound stupid but it performs if you've managed to make revolver work well

(I have no clue if you're true solo or bot soloing)
Bots may be idiots, but they work well enough with bio tracker
You can also tell them to use their sentries, mines and such with Q commands

hel shotty and hel rifle is nice for r1 content
hel rifle for easy scout clears and giant kills
Also if you're struggling with CC then perhaps you aren't using the right tools/Not using them properly enough to make much of difference
Something like closing doors without mines, cfoaming normal enemies and not doors and such
You can get used to the game through soloing, but you won't learn what you need to know in order to play well, so do keep that in mind as you go

Class 2 Alarm:
Generally focus on dumping more ammo and getting scans done quickly.
By dumping ammo I mean don't be afraid to be "innefficient" with ur guns when killing enemies. It is better to kill them faster so they don't have time to reach and damage u. Solo requires you to "waste" some ammo by just shooting enemies as soon as u can to thin out the wave.
Getting scans done quicker there means you fight one less wave which saves both ammo and meds. It is especially important in the class 2 as being too slow means u fight double the enemies.
Class 4 Alarm:
Small nitpick: Don't double mine a door as it does very little. Using the mine on the other large door in the same zone is 10x better.
Not using sentry was giga troll.
Don't be afraid to just run away. The moment that alarm is done, u can take as long as u want to kill enemies. Generally the alarm was heavily carried by the fact that the scans were crazy good and the fact that you had cfoam + mine on the big door.
Don't have much else to add outside of your habit of tapping sprint when you're not sure the room is clear it seems, will need to take care of that
Also if you get slowed down with a reload you can cancel it by shoving using the melee key or just switching weapons, lets you immediately start running again

yea, enemies can spawn in the class 2 alarm room or in the extract room. So there is quite a good chance u get a left side spawn and make good use of that mine

burst sentry is generally the best into wave of smalls
hel auto sentry has some niche if you have large swathes of enemies going down a tight corridor ONLY IF you get the sentry to shoot at their backs
those are the sentries i would consider for the level
Burst is made to be jst consistent for everything

firstly, do not press matchmake
secondly, you can click where it says invite and go down your friends list in game
or alternatively, copy the lobby code from the right hand side of the screen (or settings menu) and send it to your friend. have your friend copy the code and a button to join should appear for them
if you pressed matchmake, leave, go back to the rundown screen, and press host lobby instead

And then you can pick whatever mission in it

R2e1 is like 5th-6th in difficulty, id argue R4E1 is 3rd
it'll help but different strategies required

We've gotten to the point where you put the cells in but usually run out of ammo by the last or second to last tank and it keeps killing us
I have one other pretty solid player but I feel like you need an entire team of people who are really good. I don't want to get hard carried because that defeats the purpose but I am about a week in with no success. I dont want to jump ahead either, so far I have done every rundown in order and want to keep it that way

main objective is like not the hard part because of scattergun
if u truly want u should probs practiice tank killing then in duos or whatev if thats whats killin u, plus u need rlly good guns and of course strat, all whiich u can probs ask here or read/watch somewhere
learn to doorfuck tanks with scattergun and your ammo situation will be super fine
it may also be that they're struggling to go fast or "improperly" using tools
with client scattergun it\s easier and more consistent, and having several people shoot on every dooropen makes it even easier as well
probably but you do get enough ammo to take 2 cycles per alarm, even when shooting the zones, so i\d believe they just waste A LOT of ammo into tanks

scatter should be plenty on its own for mom, babies might be an issue if your scatter shots arent good enough

with tips I am thinking more of the basics and there is a lot to explain, but the most important thing for me is to have patience at the beginning and don't be afraid to fail, because you gonna fail a lot, especially at the beginning when you are still learning the basics
Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if you don't want to play with a group
Also the server may not be incredibly alive but it's not terribly dead
So don't just assume no one is around
(Doesn't help it's a Monday for like half of us rn)

What are the major differances between each melee weapon?
Hammer is the best, knife for smalls, bat for brazil skip, spear for nothing
knife is very quick, but also deals the least damage. It's good for quickly killing small enemies, but you need to hit headshots. Hammer is the most balanced and decent for meleeing smaller and larger enemies. Bat is in between knife and hammer damage wise, but staggers enemies with uncharged hits and spear has the most precision damage and higher range, but is also very slow and you can't sprint while charging it
and the different knives/hammers/bats/spears are just skins and all act the same if that wasn't clear
Knife is best at killing smalls, spear is best at killing bigger enemies but slower, bat is more of a support with much bigger stagger and hammer for consistency
Spear is when you feel like making it harder for yourself
Spear for meme melee only bosses
