we did upto like D or C on 1, 2, 3 and 4 IIRC, mostly because we would just die on the harder D and E levels and if I remember correctly there weren't any checkpoints back then (or maybe very few?)
There isn't any checkpoints until R6
so dying near the end of E would just mean 2h + 2h for a single level
They added a checkpoint in r1a1 and thats all they did
the deves where as locked in as me on exams

Does anyone know the specifics of Dog AI? like, why they target specific players? I ask bc a friend and i were farming Guardian Angel on R5A2 and the dog WITHOUT FAIL targeted them EVERY TIME, save for 2 (two) instances where it grabbed me (this sucked because they're the one who needed the cheevo). We were the only two players, so it could have been weird random rolls- but do they prioritize players with lower health, or the Host before any others?
i believe it just does a random check to aggro onto any player- the aggro comes when hes far away and u hear it growl, thats when it comes back and grabs someone
they dont target bots but i think thats it

This is a good time to mention in here that NoDoorCheese plugin got some more updates so it reflects full gamestate awareness by disabling the door panel instantly (and permanently) when the door is broken, as well as updating the map status of the door to always reflect broken state, even after the broken door "opens" again to prevent doorbug

What we found is vanilla stealth jank. Moth and I were just testing it, it happens with bots and real human players. If you melee swing at a sleeper that was just killed by a teammate, instead of being silent (beyond the proximity aggro of 3 meters), that player specifically will hear a thud as though they hit the floor and cause a hard trigger as though they indeed hit the floor (within a 7 meter radius), and this occurs even if the player that gets the thud is looking up at a given Sleeper, in the complete opposite direction of the floor
The Sleeper's dead body is causing a hard trigger
For what duration, if you know

if you fire burst cannon at a line of sleepers the shots (or at least the second one) will get blocked by the corpse
the deadbodyfix mod changes this behaviour, but that's an advantage you don't get in base game so i don't touch it

Logically, it tells me this:
-Corpses should block bullets until they disintegrate (vanilla behavior; just makes sense)
-Meleeing extremely recently killed sleepers by teammates specifically should not cause a hard trigger

it's 100% the corpse. You can observe this when testing crouching looking up at a standing striker/shooter, have a teammate kill it while you are mid swing before your melee hitbox connects. floor thud sound plays
and then you can remain in that position/exact camera angle, and do another melee swing, to see that no thud occurs to prove you weren't even in range of the floor with your melee

we clearly woke up a sleeper outside of proximity trigger
if you hit something that produces the object sound, then that will behave like the object hit sound

I don't think this is too in-depth, it's an oversight, smacking a corpse when someone just smacked it a second ago but it suddenly makes over twice the radius of noise before it even hits the ground doesn't feel right.
Less coordinated pubs could definitely encounter this if they aren't counting swings and don't designate targets. And for solo + bots players, it can most certainly happen too, I tested both with moth and a Dauda bot
so a certaint trigger is stuck
the amount of arbitrary rules is insane lol
enemies queueing into HAVING to go through the ladder (aka wont reaggro even if you stand next to them)
how they travel through the ladder (where, what amount of foam is best)

This footage shows several things with my test with moth:
-The Shooters don't face each other, so it isn't long range aggro
-They are beyond 3 meters from each other, so it isn't proximity trigger
-I specifically did this in the spot in the starting room of R1A1 that has dirt as the floor, and not the tiles elsewhere in the room, which has a different sound when you smack it with melee
-You can see I don't change my camera or position despite getting the typical thud sound, trying to replicate it with several swings afterwards and not getting any sound, which is different than the one when I finally smack the dirt floor

Is shotgun or combat shotgun the better choice? I'm really not sure what to choose.
for what
both are good
shotgun is more all roundish - it gets very safe 1 shots on smalls and can 1 shot chargers (also nightmares) aswell as scouts
its also generally better into bosses
combat shotgun is more wave clear focused, with 1 taps having insane ammo econ but still being efficient on 2 shots (moreso than shotgun)

personally i find combat shotgun the best overall trash horde clear when u dont have insane lineups for helgun/rifle
hel shotgun main is also pretty good
its kinda deceiving how good it is. cos if u just shoot a single striker at mid range ur gonna dump like 5 shots to kill 1 striker
but if u line up two giants from the back hel shotgun can wipe both of them in half a clip
Combat shotgun is stronger overall, especially given how much its ammo has been power-crept.
CS and Shotgun are both kind of weird because they can be "replaced" sort of by HEL Shotgun and Sawed-Off respectively.
You can unironically get most of your wave clear or burst damage out of your Main rn.
But you could also run HEL Shotgun + Shotgun or Sawed-Off + Combat Shotgun, and both are very good loadouts
hel shawty + hel rifle/gun is my preferred and its alright
hel shotgun is just a bit weird to play bc u have to be so close to do damage

Realistically Burst Sentry is the best. Itās the most consistent with aiming, is ammo efficient, and has high stagger.
As a general rule, if you have two sentries it's always double Burst for strikers and either one or both gets switched to HEL Auto (placed for back) or Sniper for chargers, giants, or hybrids.
If you have only one sentry, HEL Auto becomes more appealing in general as a way to spend a lot of tool to full kill some encounter
But Burst is just always solid
Spends tool efficiently, and kills and chips some fraction of striker waves consistently.
burst is best on normal strikers
sniper is best for chargers/bigs
usually cant go wrong with those two
hel auto is very rarely best but when u place it just right it shreds hordes
also i learnd that it is the best for nightmares, burst doesnt do anything against those enemies
Sniper is probably still best for NMs, but Sniper and HEL Auto are somewhat interchangeable. It really depends on if you have good placements for Sniper or not.
R4C3, for example, is pretty awful terrain for Sniper

They're kind of a janky pseudo-modded enemy, so their head is "removed" by making it really really tiny
which means sentries aim at the tiny head instead of the bubble
This is also why Sniper sometimes just straight whiffs
