hel rifle vs hel gun what are the main differences?
hel-gun is like a DMR of sorts.
hel-rifle is like a sniper or precision rifle of sorts.
dmg, mag size, charge up (and for hel rifle cooldown), range
dmg -> hel rifle one shots anything that isnt a giant anywhere and can kill scouts to the head
Hel gun needs headshots on smaller enemies for a 1 shot and 2 shots chargers
hel gun can shoot faster (actually spamable) as hel rifle has a cooldown between shots
hel rifle basically never has range issues, hel gun CAN run into them vs chargers
both are insanely op

Could someone explain to me what I'm missing with Hel Gun and why people like it? It seems largely outclassed from what I can tell. Hel Rifle is better for pen shots, chargers, and all bigs. Hel Gun certainly has better ammo and uptime economy against smalls if you're going for headshots, but at that point revolver is better. In the scenario where you'd want it for both smalls and chargers, HAR is probably much more consistent for the better TTK (not to mention no charge-up).

hel gun is better for smalls but smalls are the most prevalent enemy in the game
Revolver has better TTK and total kills on smalls when landing headshots, as it has a better rate of fire & more ammo per pack

30 damage weapon has crazy breakpoints

(I'm referring to per pack as that's generally the best metric for ammo economy)

The only point I bring up revolver is because this is in relation to small enemies, if you consider any other enemy type (excluding flyers) hel rifle is just better
i often find myself choosing between revo and hel gun when soloing, and revo is really only relevant where there won't be a lot of bigs or good lines
in practice it is easier for players to get higher value out of hel gun than hel rifle

on the majority of the game hel gun just gets free value over hel rifle by it being striker spam

with hel rifle hitting just pen it's as good as hel gun hitting just pen
In the case you're "striker spamming" then hel rifle just wins, it kills in one shot, hel gun in 2, and it doesn't have double the ammo.

the opposite way of hel rifle
HEL Gun: 0.2 charge + 0.1 shot delay = 0.3 between shots
HEL Rifle: 0.12 charge + 0.75 cooldown = 0.87 between shots
HEL Gun also has a decently faster reload, but crucially that reload speed is also hitting a critical threshold. HEL Gun's cancelled reload is less than 1.5s, which is a Striker's tongue cooldown. Meaning you can reload in between a stagger. This means you can fire a shot, or shove, or stagger with your main, and then reload your HEL Gun in time to deal with the enemy - something you cannot do with HEL Rifle.
(The difference in their reload cancels is 1.43s vs 2.16s)
We routinely deal with 2+ Hybrids at range on the first scan. HEL Rifle starts with 15 bullets. Assuming you 4 shot each Hybrid you now have 7 bullets. This weapon is also the weapon we need to deal with Giants or Hybrids on 2nd scan. Let's assume 1 hybrid and 1 giant. You do not have the ammo to kill both. And this isn't even getting to the 3rd scan, where we will also routinely deal with 2+ giants/big shooters at range.

that's 5 big kills
3 hybrids 2 giants
it's not any better at not running out of ammo here
still runs out during 2nd scan
And burst cannon ammo feels terrible for the start of this level

is it normal bot behavior when at extraction they suddenly stop shooting completely, even though they have each more than 50% on every gun? I just lost expedition in the end because waves of giants were marching towards me and bots just stood still, coldblooded, watching me die
not for me, only problem i have is that they dont stand in the warden scan but ive noticed that the bots are wonky and sometimes just dont shoot, kicking them and adding them back usually fixes the wonkiness

Hey is there a way to kill the spaghetti dudes without triggering the horde because I just did my first rundown r1a1 with bots and I missed my knife heavy stab which resulted in my entire squad immediately dying as for some reason no med packs spawned up until that point, just 5 long range flashlights and I just barely survived 3 giants at the first alarm door. Also did I make a mistake by taking the high cal pistol and full auto shotgun?

And no, high cal and hel shotty are both strong.
Hel shotgun might be a bit weird to use for a beginner tho
High cal is one of the best choices for a beginner. It one shots smalls anywhere, kills giants with 4 to the body (dont aim for head) and can kill a scout with a headshot
Oh and a good thing to know
Scouts only spawn ~12 enemies
if you trigger one, dont panic
Kill the room its in and then play together to shoot the rest incoming

But learning to melee scouts is a vital and commonly necessary skill

i don't think the majority of people are that into finding logs and story elements
for the original 1-5 i'd agree, but the devs shifted hard in r6-r8
we wen't from not have much lore beyond our characters, to massive amounts of both pre-apocalypse stuff, and even ongoing stuff
like you can explain the story of each 1-5 rundown in a single sentence
and i know, a lot of people didn't like that shift to focusing more on the story.
I think how the lore is done in R6-R8 is still secondary to gameplay
but its integrated a lot better (the awfully long lore scans in og r6 aside) and makes for a more compelling experience
because the devs removed the played-over-gameplay audio logs in alt://r6
and i don't blame them. not only are they hidden in expeditions, but none of them are in order
ya im not rlly a big fan of the "hunt for the story". Tho i think its more cause very few people do it in an enjoyable way (at least for me), i'd prolly be more fine with it if it was scattered peices that all came together nicely, but alot of it is VERY all over the place and that more or less made me not rlly that interested in the story
