hel rifle suffers quite a bit during surge alarm but it's much much nicer than hel gun against the hybrids
playing around bulkhead door is really nice if possible, especially with sawed off, because it allows you to nuke hybrids and have immediate cover by just backing up

hel revo hel gun is what i held with and it worked fine, just gotta really spam down the hybrids fast
i think main advantage of hel revo hel gun is that you can keep your distance and be more flexible with biotracker pinging

First thing worth mentioning is that ALTR1-R5 are all remakes of rundowns that were first released in the game's early access period. They do not have the full enemy variety of the full game because those enemies did not exist at that point in development. (Some small exceptions, ALTR3 adds an enemy added in R5 to one level, ALTR5 adds an enemy that was added in R7 to a few levels).

If you've primarily played levels from earlier rundowns... yeah, they're not gonna have very much enemy variety. They do generally do a good job of introducing new enemies, giving them thematic moments or even whole levels to acclimate the player to them, but if you're just looking to get to more enemy variety faster then I'd recommend jumping to R6/7/8.

Re: Boss/mini-boss frequency.

Most 'early' levels (A-C tier) are not going to feature many of these enemies. To see these enemies more frequently you really have to be playing D/E tiers. Even in those levels you'll typically see only a handful. Some bosses are also completely unique to just a handful of levels, so you won't encounter them at all outside of those levels.

Apparently you've playing R4E1 and that level is on the upper end of boss encounters, with early tank error, a 4 mom zone (though you generally don't engage with them) and a double boss fight at the end. There's only a tiny handful of levels that'll have more boss encounters than that.

I think if you've found encounters uninteresting so far it's worthwhile to just like, play R7D2 or R8E2. If those levels don't have engaging encounters for you, then yeah, games probably not for you (though maybe modded saves it for you).

i load this game every couple of years and every time i join a pub i feel like everyone else knows vastly more about everything thats going on than I ever knew

also one thing that i dont think is mentioned enough is that efficiency is irrelevant since all you have to do is to not miss
