r4e1 is the sloppiest level I've played we just beat it earlier this week. Not even close to anything before it. Tanks spawning into objects and getting permanently stuck making any bot unable to hold items. Waking even a single mother in the secondary objective 4 mother room breaks the spawn queue so horribly it turns the reactor into a permanent error alarm for the entire "stealth" section at the end. Babies love to spawn into structures and floors as well. This isn't even counting if somehow you pull the 4 mothers, it borderline ruins the mission, not even counting if you clear the babies and your pc is fine with the tons of entities. The mobs past that point will lag, desync, stand and pause randomly. Get stuck. It's an absolute mess.

a bit ago I just mentioned the idea of a Nightmare Striker Wave Fast variant, and jish brought up a very good point regarding its punch radius

I brought up scream cooldown as well

building tension by not having checkpoints and severe resource constraints is something that can be executed very well, but then you have to think about "ok, what about circle strafing and just meleeing like the way the game used to play in OG"

You have terrifying things like sprinting shadow giants in OG R2 but you also had infinite stamina back then, and changes since then make that all worth consideration

#

I don't believe in sheer error spam, I believe the pacing of some amounts of stealth without really being able to afford or wanting to pull a room is worth consideration as well when looking at cranking up horror elements

#

because if you can still afford to pull every room be it a melee festival or shooting gallery, that's not that scary no matter what's in there, just rather an inconvenience (and the solutions I want are more nuanced than just making rooms full of bigs/boss enemies)

one of the best uses of stealth outside of R8E2 in vanilla I think is R6D3, though that zone is still chock full of bigs and boss enemies
