imagine the sec door opens to a zone and u see nothing, literally nothing, all black, as if there is no more level after it, u all jump into it and the level behind u disappears, then randomly the floor appears back out and it's ALL fleshy and gooey like in r8a2 secondary, the floors, the walls, everything is genuinely fucked. Then from the walls enemies start spawning, and u just do ur best to survive while trying to recognize the rooms u are in and how to get out, later u find out that that was your brain screwing with u because of all the trauma u've had to deal with and ur brain slowly becoming incapable of dealing with the horrors in the complex

GTFO honestly is one of the games that has a lot of potential simply because of the possibility to run with anything because of the multi dimensionality. You can genuinely justify horrors that are well above what other games can throw at the player with "this shit had millions of years to evolve into the perfect sentient being killer, good luck"
make the virus and parasite a threat not just in the lore, but throw it in the face of the player, make the player understand how dangerous and mental this is
not just reference the kill count in lore logs.

another idea: u just walk into a room, see a dead body pile in the middle of it, with a bunch of dead bodies around the room, u start an alarm, but no wave comes, slowly the dead pile of bodies starts moving, u shit ur pants start shooting it as it starts to run around the room fucking u all up, it even picks up bodies from the room and heals itself, throws dead bodies at u, sometimes starts walking up on the ceiling, gets above a player and then just drops on a player instantly downing them if it hits

the thing u are referencing is called technical and architectural debt, these are concepts in programming which basically ask the question: "how much in the future do u want to design this code for?". Everyone would love to design code that can withstand centuries but realistically... u make an educated guess for how long the code is going to be used and u design it to work until then.

DoW for 10C is economically a good play, the reality is the way GTFO was marketed and designed it wasn't going to become such a HUGE name for it to be worked on indefinitely (or at least longer than it was so that the content could actually have a "satisfying" end). Tho it had the potential which if realized earlier it could have honestly happened. (Satisfying in the second last sentence I use to mean: you get to that point where you got the feeling that if anything else get added it would just cause a bloated feeling rather than good new additions)

and u dont need to mod in crazy enemies to make that work as well as it does
one of the reason why this happens is making new modded enemies that have interesting new mechanics is genuienly insane. You need to model them, rig them, build everything about them, balance them, then u get to use them in what.... 2-3 levels?

and both can be great as long as- of course- they have quality and stuff, which i cannot do examples of in the modding scene but im sure theres a rundown with a lot of reused enemies with different stats that is good and great

truth is the game "requires" other people, and it isn't exactly mod-friendly (as you stated, it's incredibly hard to create new content, but it isn't incredibly intuitive to mod the game either)
This game should have had some basic workshop implementation for it to has a more lasting effect

As someone profane, my uneducated impression is that this game's structure is jury-rigged and incredibly stiff.
the purpose of that is to say: the reward, work ratio for a rando person to mod this game and get something out there that is cool is genuienly insane

i was thinking of making a mod that adds this balance change: when u use AR, each shot marks an enemy, if the 2nd shot hits a marked enemy you "detonate" that mark dealing 5 extra damage (no mark is added if a mark was detonated). And funnily enough this would be technically balanced when compared to sawed off and hel shotty
9.4 dmg every 2 shots, means u beat sawed off efficiency by quite a bit but are still heavily behind hel shotty without pen

the biggest difference from knowledge aside (which theres still a bunch of things that impact what youd do that arent known) is that you get 1 attempt to run the level with whatever seed you got
As tutorial is the closest to seeded (only having changed position on res and orientation on enemies lol), its a decent showcase for how seeded would look vs how runs are now

fact of the matter is that the gap between logs for keys/objective room (HSU/uplink)/gather items and seed indexing for every relevant spawn is just as large, if not larger, than the gap from logless to logs
it dramatically changes how the game plays
and ostensibly there's no way to figure out such stuff from reading the log whereas 36_Area = Room A and 35_Area = Room B is something you could pick up on in vivo with the text reference from logs
and the difference the knowledge makes in the runs should qualify it to be marked separately on the leaderboards, imo
i don't know if it'd be wanted or in the spirit of the game to know, if that's an argument in the first place, and i don't believe the devs would have ever changed logs so it's all discernible with the naked eye, nor was there any push from anyone to do such a thjng
