Okay. Now I know why I accidentally shove sometimes. I guess I have the "shove" key bound to a side button on the mouse. So for me makes it easier to quickly switch to the melee weapon.
Which means sometimes if I'm right on a Sleeper and need to switch to melee, I just hit that side button....and if I'm too close, I just accidentally shove waking them up.
So yeah, right-click to do a regular charge cancel does nothing. I did know that.

Rooms up, beginners don't know what's coming at them, I have to shoot 4 chargers coming in at us from different directions.
