#It's impossible to create pages on my wiki for some users

I've had multiple reports from users that they were unable to create pages, so I just created a test account and confirmed the issue: my test account isn't able to create pages on my wiki.

I don't believe it's a permissions issue: I have just set the wiki settings so that everyone can create pages, and also it doesn't throw any kind of error like "You don't have permission to create this page". It's just that when I hit "save page", the page reloads and shows me the page-editing screen again, and doesn't save.

On my bureaucrat account, I got a "new changes await moderation" notif, but when I clicked it, there was no sign of the page creation attempt and no way to approve it.

are external links included in your new pages? if so that might be the issue

#

new users (not confirmed/autoconfirmed) get their pages blocked if they have external links in them

additionally you removed the edit right from * meaning only logged in users can edit (and create pages)

the most important thing that I need new users to be able to do is add new pages containing external links

#

I'm okay with it taking longer for them to be allowed to edit existing pages, or having that gated behind autoconfirming

we add edit notices on our wiki to tell people about the issue and state that if they aren't autoconfirmed yet and want to make a page (or leave a comment) with an external link to either 1) remove the link and add it back in with another edit or 2) ask on our Admin Noticeboard for manual confirmation

Ah, yeah, the problem I had was that people were trying to make pages, and they never got a notice like "you don't have permission". It just failed when they hit "save page".

#

Is it possible to fix the permissions so that anyone can add external links? It's the most important functionality I need in the wiki. It's fine if it's hard for people to edit existing pages, add internal links, make categories, rollback, delete things, etc - I would want some protection against vandalism - but people need to be able to make a new page with an external link on it as their first/only action

oh I'm referring to system messages that'll display on the page itself, not a notification

Maybe I can whitelist sites that people are likely to use?

I'm not sure if it's possible to edit the abuse filter

#

since that would be what's autoblocking them

I tried pretty much disabling it altogether. (I do want anti-spam and moderation features... just not if they're going to completely turn off 90% of potential genuine editors)

Yeah, it never showed up in the abuse filter logs. It just invisibly failed.

The people trying to create pages didn't get any kind of "sorry you can't do that" message. It just reloaded the page every time they tried to hit "save" until eventually they lost what they were working on.

And I didn't get any kind of message of "this user tried to do this", or the abuse filter catching anything, or anything showing up in my moderation queue. All I saw was that I was recruiting for people to edit the wiki, and nobody was doing it, and I thought nobody was interested / willing.... until I found out people had been trying and it had just completely locked them out without telling them why, or telling me anything

can you give an example of an user facing such issues

tulip parrot
#

wait are they using visual editor? is this the visual editor captcha bug?

jducoeur was having that issue trying to create a page, and also I created a test account (Sunlightenthusiast) and had the same issue, and Nicaise reported the same issue, and someone else who I know as Aurora - I'll have to check what her wiki user is, I think it's Calendula

#

I would prefer to have a system where you can't edit or create pages without a confirmed email, but as soon as you confirm your email, it 100% unlocks page creation, page editing, external links etc. (Since I do want some spam prevention)

But for now I've just completely turned off every moderation feature and abuse filter feature I could find

tulip parrot
#

they'd need an account to confirm an email though

lofty plaza
#

yeah I'm okay with everyone needing to make an account, my users are used to that because that's how other sca-related wikis work

everyone else is probably getting messed up by visual editor, oof

I can disable visual editor? I think I only enabled it last night so I don't think it would be responsible for the issues before that
