#What should this channel look like?

Oh yeah
A more important question would be what this channel is for, exactly
Requests specifically related to discord
Bot/feature requests, elections, revocations, etc.
all <@&803977072875405422> for thoughts
@verbal dawn have added the Misc tag as a placeholder till something permanent is figured out
Okay
Sorry I guess I only half finished setting up the channel when creating it. Is there anything left to be done?
I tried to do a bit of it
@lament dirge which tags I believe
and then public to all? or VFW
I'll decide that later busy IRL ATM
actually quick question - do we want RfCs to be able to be done here?
regarding Discord
these are the current tags I added...
I think RfCs work better on-wiki because it goes a bit cleaner
true yeah
I did the RfF just in case
it's less official
and more just "what's your thoughts"
I need to post RfC 3 regarding a few things one of these days.
Mostly to reform the election process a bit.
true yeah
thoughts on the current tags?
Remove Moderator Administrator and Discord Manager for now. #1019693511232208928 will remain separate I think.
you sure?
I thought the original reason was from #1231344234217603155 that we needed a different place for revocations
I think we reform #1019693511232208928 to be something else that covers revocations also.
Both those should be in that channel
fair that works
#roles maybe?
or #permissions-requests
No that is confusing
^?
I was thinking maybe exactly that but please don't change it yet.
Yep, no worries
will delete the Election/revocation tags from here though
please. also not sure if we really need the rff one
RfF I was on the fence about
just thought it could be useful for more official questions, but not quite RfCs
In fact the only one I can see a purpose is actually Miscellaneous. Bug Report and Feature Request have nothing to do with Discord that should be reported to us either
Feature Request meaning more something like a bot or sorts
like the quote bot that Pix requested
or I suppose we just leave it totally free-form and get rid of tags entirely
That's not a feature request IMO that's a bot request which we can have a tag for
Ah yeah
Or just "Requests"?
if there's a channel request
not sure
Yeah that could work
Or maybe we do just get rid if tags completely lol. I'm kinda on the fence here
I think it will help to make tags as needed after posts go up based on what it is used for tbh
yeah that was my other thought
just develop over time
I'm leaning that way actually, if you agree
just leave it totally freeform
but then I'd also probably restrict to VFW
Just remove tags and leave as is for now I think.
We can make tags on an as needed basis
Done
I have to go for now.
no worries - when you have a chance, thoughts on the channel description?
fixed also to update
it's about how it is handled really, but maybe I'm too optimistic that it's a matter of format
If you have a better idea for RfCs I'm open to suggestions.
the real problem for the elections channels for example is how chitchat blends right in with a voting process, making it that much harder to manage
in my mind the avenues are,
- using pins be it to mark the very start or to mark highlights; marking individual votes/key points would not be desirable imo
- splitting off the 'voting portion' with the discussion portion. The former is strictly the official comments of individuals that will be counted, the latter section is for discussion. This would most directly solve the . This could be two concurrent threads, a thread within the main area (could be messy and may not work in forums), or dedicated channel(s) on a temporary basis.
- acknowledge that the discord process is simply different and therefore nullify the usual format in favor of a cleaner cut voting structure: 'votes', handled by emote or such, would be issued to a clearly designated post, and further comments/discussion take place in one channel so the collection of 'consensus' such as it is would be easier. Ie not fitting a square in a round hole.
- Stop burying discord RfCs into an obscure subpage and simply address them like an RfC would be handled for any official miraheze wiki: through the main venue, if not through the designated place itself. I don't like doing discord discussions on-wiki, the community base is simply different, however this one step would reduce some of the bleh associated with how it's been done in the past.
