Hihi just wondering where people would reccommend for help on.. well, I guess a number of basic things. I'm not wanting to flood channels with help about like, every little thing buuuut.... especially since I was looking to format things a bit and get the wiki looking all nice and themed etc, I think I have quite a few questions and not rlly a very good fundemental understanding yet soooo... anyone know any good guides I guess?
#Are there any good guides on how to get started with a number of things?

For theming, you can change the default skin in ManageWiki. More advanced stuff needs CSS
formatting you can find on [[mw:Formatting]]
Ahh okay thank you ^_^
if this is your first foray into css, mozilla developer notes and w3schools are pretty good. 99% of "how do I make things look nicer" is css. (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS)
for questions about mediawiki-specific formatting, I usually look at wikipedia guides and mediawiki documentation (example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Table) I find wikipedia's guides usually more helpful than the mediawiki docs
Fandom also has advice on making a good main page, choosing the best pictures, etc.
Ahh okay thank you so much ^_^
We did have a fandom wiki but it's outdated now so, probably will start from scratch
We had a mod for a game but now we're on the sequel
Aurrg I'm sorry but I am still very lost... Is there a specific area to go to in order to make sitewide changes like changing the colours of the background and look of things, or does that have to be done manually on each page or something? I did find a place with like, style presets and tickboxes or something but it didn't seem to do anything either
MediaWiki:Common.css
ooooooohhhh thank you XD
Look into how to use CSS rules, applying them in Common.css is global
Look at other wikis Common.css for guidance if ya want
Ie pizza tower wiki
Alright I will do, I think I am getting the hang of things but it will prob take a while for me
Alr that's very helpful, I will do that! Thank you!!
Took for me as well
Also you can use inspect elements to view the classes and IDs of parts of the page to target them with css
Ahh alr thank u sm
I'd advise soft cell wiki, pizza tower wiki got more complex in css department xd
also changes of overall look of the wiki better to be applied per skin specific pages, for example default skin is Vector 2022, and its page gonna be MediaWiki:Vector-2022.css
mentioned wikis use Timeless skin, so that's MediaWiki:Timeless.css, etc
Common.css is site wide and is better for stuff that is/will be same across all skins, like tables or templates
Ummmm okay somehow trying to change the Logo changed the entire look of the site ????? I don't understand, I have been messing around with stuff a lot and I don't know if changing the logo suddenly made all these changes take effect or if doing that somehow changed the site?? But it looks entirely different now the layout has completely changed sooo uhhh does anyone know what I did>
It suddenly looks like Fandom what have I done o_o
?????? IT CHANGED BACK okay idk what I have done
No nevermind it changed a third time and I havent made any changes
could you share the link to your wiki?
Uhnm sure, ignore all the stuff its kind of a nuclear warzone while I try and figuree out literally anything
oh nvm I can't send links ...
you have do /auth to send links
ohhh
...sorry but how do I use /auth? I keep trying it but it's not really doing anything except saying it will "send the links in a direct message in a second"
it's a bit buggy, try again in 15 min
I think its that I changed the default skin to cosmos - just that changes in the additional settings are for some reason really delayed?
can try it in a main channel like #general also, doing it from threads tends to not work
Alr that worked, thank you ^_^
uuuugrggg I'm sorry gang I have been looking through all of this for hours and it's genuinely just going right over my head, struggling to understand even a thing ...
Should I even be trying to start with like, formatting how the entire website looks or should I just go about trying to make the pages and then figure it out after? I don't know lmfaooo
