#Need help setting up infoboxes and navboxes
107 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
FANDOM infoboxes require extension PortableInfobox
enable it in extensions admin menu, parser hooks tab
after that you might need to purge wiki's cache (there must be "Purge" button near "Edit") or make empty edits on templates pages for them to start working
navbox was probably made w/ FANDOM dev wiki's Navbox builder, this a bit more complex but still easily fixed
I gotta check something
Installed it and purged cache, but there's no change on the items themselves
and ironically, only the infoboxes we want to use don't seem to work
then try edit and save it w/o changes
articles too
dump import is getting tricky if extensions weren't enabled beforehand
I have to modify the page for it to even save. If I remove the extra characters I added to fix it, it counts as a revert and breaks again.
Yup
migrating by yourself, or the entire community decided so btw?
everyone on staff agreed
we want to "close" the Fandom wiki, which Fandom doesn't allow, but we'll delete all pages anyway since we can't lock or archive that wiki
mass delete might get your accounts banned and make FANDOM staff put other admins
it's trash, yeah
speaking of which, Fandom also had columns that a regular wiki doesn't have, and I don't know how to replicate that.
I thought there was a way, but I don't remember
damnit
you should focus on beating FANDOM's SEO really, but it requires the entire community effort
but that's another topic
lemme find
this extension
I suggest to try different skins for more organic look, like Cosmos or Timeless
as for infobox - very strange behaviour, never encountered that before
I modified the category part of infobox, seems to be working now
also purge button doesn't work
The purge button seems to work...? Is a message supposed to pop up?
same story with the Fandoom extension btw
tried empty edit on main page too?
any extension just take some time or action to start working
yeah, but it doesn't for me
unless I manually do purge in URL
if I save an empty edit, it does nothing at all. it doesn't even show up in history
hmm, you need yet another extension enabled, TemplateData, it's also for infoboxes
well, empty edit shouldn't show up in history, it's empty after all, it's just used to successfully kick cache
one issue fixed I guess
it's strange that it requires some change
the import process is fully completed tho?
I've added <includeonly> tags here, and TemplateData works now too
I think the XML import was completed? A bunch of images failed to import and I haven't received a message that shows it was completed
one infobox also stays broken
I guess you'll have to make some change in all infoboxes, in case of character one I've moved <includeonly> before <infobox> and modified part which applies category
in enemy infobox I've added both <includeonly> and </includeonly>
@simple urchin any idea what could broke here?
PI templates start working only if actual edit was made, purge and empty edit don't do anything
that works now too, the actual template page is now empty though
should have close the tag after infobox, not at the bottom of the entire page
done
how these tags work, in short
Got it
alright, now navboxes
still haven't gotten the main page stuff working properly
(I can hear you sigh audibly)
replace the code in Module:Navbox page with code from here:
https://dev.fandom.com/wiki/Module:Navbox
idk what's going on and can only suspect that if import is still in progress it might mess up things
I remember being advised to wait for finish
can you try enable skin Cosmos? in extensions menu
at least for the test
so far literally the only thing that worked right out of the gates
also enabled Cosmos
it's funny because it's the only Lua module that doesn't bring loads of headache lol
may I edit main page?
Go ahead
before I'll save, got you another extension to enable - RandomSelection
also enabled
seems to take a while to activate, or it doesn't make use of the <option> tag
maybe the real issue all along is that this wiki is cursed
xd
let's wait for this one a little
I recently made DYK template on my wiki and it has no problems, so something on import 🤷
let me try to edit the template (nope)
also tried to purge it, nothing
wait a second
nope, tried to recreate usage in template on my wiki and it still works, I'm lost
again, if the import isn't finished then it might be the reason for some hiccups
I suggest to create new support thread for other stuff, as we fixed infoboxes and navboxes now
Yeah purge button been broken for a while now (It is supposed to direct you to a page to confirm you want to purge the cache). Can still access it via the index.php?title=pagetitle&action=purge though (Replacing pagetitle with well the title of the page to purge
yeah, has to go w/ URL, but it still has no effect
woo
@dusk blaze seems like your discord link on wiki expired
also uploading images is not advisable when file import in progress
Didn't know it was still going, is there a list or something of things that still need to get through?
also wtf
it did, weird
to be honest, I don't know if image import even started, now that I found your phab request

I'm low level (?) volunteer lol
I'm actually interested in Pizza Tower lol, I can help you w/ set up and fixes in your server, if you don't mind
if something goes beyond my competence, however, that can be escalated here
We're good for now, we just need assistance on the wiki side of things
I've been trying to send an image several times now and Discord keeps blocking it, so I'll describe it
either someone signed up and started trolling the wiki, or something is going wrong with default Miraheze images getting attached on random articles
apparently this is the result of some absolute shitskulls over at Fandom picking the most default and stupidest names for images
you need to /auth to send links and images here
for starters, try to disable Wikimedia/Miraheze Commons attachment
in additional settings menu, Media tab
also, I told you to create new threads for new problems, please
this one is already resolved, meaning that volunteers would skip it, most likely, I just saw your message because I'm still following here
