#organizing mods folder

i may support tagging, but it can be complex.....
tags will be confusing, trust me, i think making optional folder system in launcher would be cool, you can hide mods in <name> section/folder with 🔼 🔽
its also usefull for giant modpacks
that's fine. virtual folder is a kind of tag system that only allow with one tag for each file. in ui user can expand/hide like folder is fine
WELL YEAH, because look at MO2 (mod manager for games like skyrim etc) its just a mess
😂
nexus tags
mod tags (errors etc)
if mod should overwrite other mod + is dominating - is loser
sections
plugins (when you install mods they have plugins)
my friend once tried to mod fallout but surrendered
i had to learn to mod skyrim for couple days
and people say MO2 better than Vortex (more modern, easier mod manager)
VERSIONS - they work poorly, MO2 takes the files with biggest version, and it dont cares about which file it is, a optional or main file
you should prioritize mods in MO2, glad minecraft dont does that
so yeah learn from that and make better

guess i will make a instance local mod virtual folder feature and then to consider how to share the mod classification across the instances
YOU HAVE TO ADD MANUALLY THESE THINGS
its like forge, fabric for minecraft
but they are for other games
these programs used for configuring mods etc
SKSE for example is like minecraft forge
expect you have tom get it from nexus, install into game folder, go to mod manager, select settings, view folders, select SKSE exe
AAAAAAAAAAAA
theres another tags in MO2
if this mod has errors or sum
theres Vortex but he works weird, people say sort manually because programs do it badly
entrance to other games modding is kinda big
seems like developers dont know how to make good mod managers
they get 2001 UIS etc
Yeah, it would be cool if we would add pngs to these folders
with text, styling
without turning it into ACID
N O
maybe you should make folders and mods not on same horizontality?
Like coding
--Mods
-Folder
<--- Folder mods
--Mods
outline also looks cool
what do you think
yeah
sometimes i get confdused in windows folders disks
visual separqation would help too
it will be ugly if the icon is not aligned... and it's hard to find a balance point to placed icons
bruh, looks fine to me lmao doesn't need to be extra super fancy folders
as long as it works right?
maybe just be able to change their colors (like the orange line before the mod name in the list) and make the folder itself that same color in the list (maybe make it look a little bigger too) so it stands out a bit better
also maybe add a way to disable/enable them so the sort buttons work better
and a close/open all folders button(s)
@white jolt that github post #github-updates message reminded me of this one, maybe folders could use some work too...
seems like he was looking for like a folder copy feature so u can copy paste em from one instance to another, whatever mods were in it from the 1st instance would carry over and group up the ones already installed in the 2nd instance
you could even fully automate it too with like a create folders based on curseforge/modrinth categories too
One way to do this is to make a feature that respect the file prefix [groupName]. Groups the mods by the files prefix name, which is simpler than creating a new spec for modlist.
The Chinese users also use prefix with bracket to organize mods
But yes, duplicate instance should also duplicate the groups
oooh so it would actually change the file name? that would be kinda cool, then make like a universal/local switch in the launcher where the [groupName] would persist across instances or just in 1 instance, that'd be a nice way to do it, even makes navigating file explorer easier 😄
yes, I used to think about the feature case like, add prefix to mods file via current group, and its inversed operation, add group via prefix. Due to the workload, I didn't impl it at that release
thought that break the file name, which might be a issue for modrinth modpack upgrade
modrinth modpack is pointing a file with the exact filename
they don't use project ids?
we could, but the file name is easier to implement
so i need to do refactor carefully...
ah well... whichever way works best i guess
also, folder colors, hard to see when 1 ends and 1 starts. no need to do fancy icons on em or anything, maybe just change the color of the folder icon and vertical bar
what color will be better?
