360 Mode, where you can dash in any direction you tilt your stick in, is an interesting concept. Was 360 considered as the default mode at one point, or were the levels always designed for dashing in 8 directions?

Most likely not as keyboard players exist, and a large amount of the platforming is based on the basic 8 directional movement

When developing the game the team was trying to make sure the experience is balanced on both keyboard and controller (see one of the FAQs), and 360 mode being default feels a lot like it would break that balance - it would make controller mechanics intrinsically different
