CelesteNet custom emotes not working

I'm trying to use custom CelesteNet emotes, but the emote wheel wont show them. here's a picture of what the file "modsettings-celesteNet.client.celeste" (no quotes) looks like, and a screenshot of my emote wheel.
(i am using the Celeste Discord Emotes mod for the emotes here from the server)

Did you restart the game after saving the file?

hmm, i just restarted celeste and the file went back to the original?

okay, it looks like whenever i connect to CelesteNet, it goes back to the original emotes

are you editing the file with Celeste closed?

make sure you're doing things in the right order

• close Celeste
• open the file
• save the file
• open Celeste

otherwise there's a chance it won't read the correct information, and then re-write that incorrect information back to the file

alr, just did that, reopening celeste
hope it works

still the original wheel

the emotes are back to the originals in the files

huh what's the exact name of the file you're editing?

can you upload that file here after editing it? it seems like the only time they'd be reset is if it's missing or empty which might indicate a syntax issue

Use quotes if your value includes special characters, (e.g. :, {, }, [, ], ,, &, *, #, ?, |, -, <, >, =, !, %, @, \).
for safety, surround each emote with quotes (' or "), not including the - at the start of each line

if it's an emote that isn't included in Everest, then others will only see them if they also have the appropriate emotes installed

i know that, i mean can you see the emotes that you send, like if i send the "Skill issue!" emote will i be able to see it?

not sure then did it do that for the default emotes?

p sure it did, but at some point it stopped doing it? maybe i just hit some option and turned it off on accident

nobody else can see the emotes either in celestenet
