#What are some glitches turned features in celeste?
27 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Eg the demo dash, which was (to my knowledge) fully unintentional, but was turned into a feature through the addition of a demo dash button
Iirc there was an unintended prolouge skip on early patches that got removed and replaced by the one we have now
There's two audio ones
1: if you leave a room while the animation/sound of you collecting a heart is still going (2a is one that's not too bad to get), the sound continues until you die
2: if you die while the sound of the badeline distortion thing is still going from having hit her, the sound continues until you die again
Neither of these really affected casual play and were expected to just be found by speedrunners as a fun little thing so they kept it around after it was found in playtesting
there's other things (like bubsdrop) that were found by the speedrun community and not patched by devs, but also not turned into a feature like demos were
idk about anything else
I believe corner boosts were a byproduct of fixing a different issue with corners where you would lose all of your speed, the devs kinda just left it in as speed tech
I’m not sure if you would call spike jumps a feature but they are kinda just accepted ig
Also lava tech was embraced as there was a wallbounce leniency patch (idk when) that when released maddy mentioned it’d make lava wall bounces easier :P
neither of these were turned into features
well depends on what you mean. I guess it was "embraced" by them, or they kept it in as a fun thing for speedrunners to find, but it wasn't meant to be found casual or anything
but yeah, not like adding a new button for it or making it a "feature". I think they both fit in with the general theme of the question on the op would probably be interested in it regardless though 🤷
I mean it's an unintended thing that was purposefully left in the game, which is mainly what I meant
Like the demo dash was quite literally turned into a feature, but the audio glitches and other glitches that were intentionally left in are still in the spirit of the original question
were spike jumps supposed to be possible in the beginning?
Not sure which types you’re talking about, but at least some of it was not
There may also be a question specifically talking about that in there, but god docs on mobile is dumb
oh cool :0
B-Sides unlocking the next A-side was also unintended I think
And bubsdrop/death warps is now a feature used to get the moon berry
corner jumps yes
spike jumps no
Do we know corner jumps were intended? Just referencing the ss of faq above seems like it might not be but hard to tell by vague wording
they were found during testing and they were made a required tech so i think that counts as intended
That’s fair. I guess I was considering more of not specifically in mind when making the physics/movement of Madeline (where Maddy calls it finding “unintended movement” during the development of 1a dashless
you don't have to bubsdrop to get the moon berry
I know, but I think the death warp is a reference to bubsdrop
It's required death abuse
