i always thought it was some sort of mother figure or someone who at least looks out for her like a mother would

olive merlin
#

Yeah i thought it was her mom too

She gets a call from her mom after she wakes up, but the question and dev response are about the earlier call in the dream

Who is Madeline calling when she is on the phone towards the beginning of the game?

Oh yeah this is something I’ve wondered as well, are you talking about the person she calls in chapter 2 right before you wake up?

That person is labeled in the files as ex, so presumably her ex

its in her dream, so i find it unlikely that it was actually her ex
more likely it was a manifestation of her anxiety

i had always thought that it was some kind of character in her mind, and that the name ex was insignificant

I don't think we'll ever explicitly state what Madeline's relationship is with that person, I think the game expresses what it needs to for the story there.

Welp, that's it folks. 🙂

No character reveals?

I do think it's her ex. The character does say "I haven't talked to you in months." so we can assume that it's a real person that Madeline knows, so they manifested in her dream.

I like to believe dream Ex is more a manifestation of stresses rather than a literal one to one representation of something

#

Their relationship really would be irrelevant, because maybe they’re just a vessel for anxieties rather than a specific person. Kind of a ‘scapegoat’ (for lack of a better term) for all the social wrong doings Madeline feels she put onto people

#

You could probably make 15 theories about the details of this person based off of that interpretation lol, but I think it makes a lot of sense as is
