#HOW I DO DIALOGES
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
you can also find examples of overwriting vanilla by looking at mods that do it
o k thnx
also the game's dialog is at Celeste/Content/Dialog/english.txt
so you can copy that and edit it
ok
the id do i have to put it in the english.txt?
what id
like
when u rigth click the dialoge you have to put an id
and u have to put it in the english txt?
?
right click where? how? could you provide a visualisation?
if you're only going to provide a tiny excerpt of something whose location i dont know then i cant help you
the dialogue id?
as an example
in your english.txt
you write
CH1_START_a=
that would be your dialogue ID
awww
you just need to put it in loenn without the =
ok
and for the dialogue itself you would have to write something like this
[MADELINE left normal]
Hi, im madeline!
o ok
the MADELINE part is the character
so ill reply when i do smth
the left part is the side that it appears on
and the normal part is the portrait
you look up the portraits in game using "portraits" in the debug console
right has a typo but
yea
put it under the CH1_START_A= (you can also change the id to whatever you want that follows that structure)
ok
@karmic sedge are you making a map which uses your custom dialog, or are you making a dialog pack to overwrite vanilla celeste (as your post suggests)? they are quite different situations and approaches
well im doing the summit brah
i don't know if you've noticed, but that doesn't answer the question
please don't overwrite vanilla maps as it breaks the game; you can copy the bin and make your own changes
also, please read the wiki
o
you dont need to code to make a map
tryng to make dialoges
yes, but are you making your own map, or just trying to change the maps that already come with celeste (known as vanilla)
i have 0 coding skills and im not that bad at mapping
editing a vanilla map causes problems
why?
i see you've downloaded lonn, and if you want to continue with that approach, you would need to make a copy of the vanilla map and ship it as your own mod
custom maps and built-in maps are treated differently
(i think)
do you want to change the gameplay, or only the dialog, of summit?
it's simpler to just change the dialog, as you won't need to use lonn
ONLY THE DIALOG OFF THE SUMIT
ok thank you
first of all: are you familiar with https://github.com/EverestAPI/Resources/wiki/Mod-Setup? it's the first thing you should do when making any type of mod, and it doesn't take long if you read the key points of the wiki
this keeps everyone's mods correctly structured and organised so that they can be shared consistently
if you haven't already set up the mod structure, please do so
second of all: the vanilla game's dialog is stored in a file called english.txt, which is located at Celeste/Content/Dialog/english.txt; so, you won't need to use lonn to change the dialog of the summit, only a text editor
the file looks like this, i dont know if uploading it is a copyright violation or something but you should be able to find it quite easily
when making changes, don't overwrite the original file; instead, copy it and put it in your mod folder under {foldername}/Dialog/english.txt
the file already has everything formatted correctly, so it's easy to change whatever part you want; the start of it also explains what the symbols do
thats unfortunate but i dont think theres a simpler way of doing this
you can ask an ai but it may lie to you
thats unfortunate
this is like one of the simplest things in map making
dont think that you are on a roadblock
think it as
one bump on your road
the first time it may be hard
but everytime after it
it becomes nothing
if you want to give up thats ok
but dont think like it was a roadblock
that's not a very positive approach
if you think that your progress means nothing you make more mistakes
imo:
- Mod Setup
- Copy and paste the english.txt file into your Dialog folder
- Edit english.txt
you cant try to change the vanilla maps
you need to make a room on your own mod
ALMOST
yes
broke one the game files
in the text.txt
sorry
i get mad when i
FAIL
i cant do it
evry road leads back to rome
i tried
no way
if you want someone to help you, make a reasonable and well-formed request, rather than nonspecific complaints
what specific problem do you have
what?
oh
