Is there a way i can get 2 copies of the game so that i can use 1 for speedrunning and the other one for modded?

everest already makes a copy of vanilla when being installed

#

unless you want two modded copies for some reason

Well it's cuz the second and third save file i have i need to keep them, and the first one's my first playthrough where i have almost everything completed. It just takes all the savefiles and puts them on both versions, and if i delete one of the savefiles on vanilla, it deletes it on modded too

that is because you told everest to link your everest copy to vanilla

As of the Everest Core update, Everest tries to create symlinks in order to share these two folders between the vanilla and modded installs of the game:

  • Saves, to sync save data between vanilla and modded
  • Content, to avoid making a duplicate of all the game assets and save about 1 GB of storage space
However, creating a symlink requires admin privileges on Windows. Installing Everest will still work if you choose not to give admin privileges, but you won't get the benefits listed above.

Creating the symlink can also fail on external drives that use non-NTFS filesystems (such as some flash drives). Installing Everest 4482 or later will still work on these filesystems, but data will not be shared between vanilla and modded. If this is an issue, moving your Celeste install to the C drive should fix it.

Oh.

jolly saffron
#

this does not mean that everest will affect your vanilla copy

#

all that is done is that the content and saves folders are the same folders

timber ledge
#

Is there a way to change that?

jolly saffron
#

is there a specific reason why you want to do that, touching the files in everest does not break them when you load them in vanilla

#

unless you want modded saves to not show up in vanilla at all

timber ledge
#

Well it's cuz they're linked, when i delete a savefile in Vanilla it deletes it in Modded too

jolly saffron
#

yeah because they're the same folder

#

okay

#

you'll need to verify game files, delete the orig folder and reinstall everest

#

then when given the prompt to link vanilla and everest, click no

timber ledge
#

Alright, is that gonna delete my modded savefiles though?

jolly saffron
#

no

#

read up on what symlinks are to understand what's going on

timber ledge
#

Okay, thanks a lot

jolly saffron
#

there's a link to a wiki page about them in the command i sent

timber ledge
#

Gotchu thnaks

#

Do i verify the gamefiles on Steam or on Olympus

jolly saffron
#

olympus tells steam to verify them

#

but i advise to just do it via steam

#

there's no practical difference but yeah

timber ledge
#

Alright gotchu

#

It tells me that there needs to be an orig file

#

Do i just create it again?

jolly saffron
#

click attempt installation anyway

timber ledge
#

There's an error message when i try to run Everest

jolly saffron
#

check the wiki in the pinned post for the solution

timber ledge
#

Oh okay

#

It didn't ask me the choice to link between vanilla and everest

#

It just downloaded it

jolly saffron
#

you deleted orig, right?

#

do you have multiple celeste installs

timber ledge
timber ledge
#

At least that's what it shows

jolly saffron
#

weird

#

it should have asked you

timber ledge
#

Should i redo the process? Maybe it'll ask me this time

jolly saffron
#

does orig exist now

timber ledge
#

Yeah it did

jolly saffron
#

what if you verify game files and delete it now

#

then try reinstalling everest again

timber ledge
#

Ohhh nvm is that the message?

jolly saffron
#

yes

#

that is the message

timber ledge
#

I thought it was just asking Administrator priviledges to continue

#

Okay cool

jolly saffron
#

and this is what you want, right

timber ledge
#

Yesyes

jolly saffron
#

installation will continue if you click no

#

so, click no

timber ledge
#

Alralr

#

Hum

#

Now my Vanilla files are gone

#

My modded ones are still there, including my vanilla ones IN Everest, but when i run the Vanilla version, everything's gone

#

Are there things i can transfer from Everest to Celeste?

#

Such as Save files?

jolly saffron
#

yeah

#

just copy over n.celeste from the Saves to orig/Saves

#

where n is a number between 0-2

#

0 is the first slot, 1 is the second slot, 2 is the third slot

timber ledge
#

Nice okay thank god
