#Variants Auto-Enabling

I've asked this a few times before in cnet (also in #gameplay_help, yes i copy and pasted) but none of the suggestions work so I'm asking it here (fyi I don't exactly know where the problem originates from and obviously don't know how to fix it, hence me asking in this channel). The problem is basically how celeste, or more specifically extended variants (I think), keeps auto enabling certain variants. It enables them usually after death or upon loading a map, usually its a specific variant(s) that enables and then I turn them off manually or by using the "Reset Vanilla/Extended Variants to default" button but then they eventually auto enable again and its the same set of variant(s) as before until the problem is completely gone for a bit but eventually come back with a different set. I don't need a solution to never have it happen again (though it'd be nice), I simply want to know a way to stop them from auto enabling so quickly because its really annoying having to go into the menu to disable them again every other death or so.

If anyone is wondering, the few things I've tried to fix it are:
check if I have "change variants randomly enabled" (I didn't)
restarting the game
both manually resetting and using the "Reset Vanilla/Extended Variants to default" button
tp-ing to someone not experiencing the problem (which works but only temporarily)

(also sorry if this isn't the right channel to ask this and also for the long message jumpscare widegladeline2 )

Could you send your latest Everest log, when this happens?

There are two types of logs; crash logs and log.txt.

Crash logs are generated when you see an "Oooops! :(" crash handler screen. They contain extra information which regular logs don't.
To access those, there's a button that says Open log file folder, which should take you to where they're stored. Make sure to grab the latest one!

For more subtle issues, non-crashing problems or other miscellaneous stuff, log.txt is checked. To find it, do the following:

  • Open Olympus.
  • Press the Manage button in the Installations panel on Olympus' main menu. (it's to the left)
  • Press Browse to open the Celeste folder.
  • Look for the file named exactly log.txt inside that folder. Do not grab error_log.txt or look into the LogHistory folder as those are not the log.txt you're looking for.

Your username may sometimes show up in those logs. If you're concerned about that, remember to censor it before uploading. Every text editor should have a replace function, commonly opened with Ctrl+H.
