#Huge screen transition lag

I've recently started experiencing huge lag on every screen transition. When I updated to the latest beta branch of Everest, the issue disappeared but a few days ago it started happening again. I've tried disabling as many mods as I can but it does not make a difference. Is this a known issue? And does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated as Celeste is simply unplayable like this.

Disabling Everest does fix this but I would like to be able to use mods.

(I posted this first in #gameplay_help but someone told me I should post here instead)

does restarting your pc help in any way?

#

or try enabling frosthelper's disable gc on transition

signal veldt
#

I have already restarted multiple times, without effect

#

I can try enabling the frosthelper thing

frozen gulch
#

every room transition triggers a c# garbage collection which is a primary cause for lag

#

garbage collection in simple terms is "cleaning up unused objects"

signal veldt
#

This one?

#

Enabling that seems to work

#

Thanks!

#

hmmmm

#

what could cause the gc to lag so much though

#

@lyric walrus resident frosthelper expert
can GC.Collect really cause such bad lagspikes???

#

@signal veldt what are your specs

#

also i should warn you that turning this on will make you more susceptible to mid-game lagspikes

signal veldt
#

I've also been experiencing gpu issues recently, wouldn't be surprised if it's somehow related to that

frozen gulch
#

1ghz seems suspiciously low

#

wait that's 1035???

#

did you miss a digit

signal veldt
#

I copy-pasted it from my windows settings

#

I'm playing on a 3-year old laptop btw

frozen gulch
#

that's a first generation intel processor

#

what the hell

signal veldt
#

The sticker on my laptop says it's 10th gen

frozen gulch
#

or nvm that's 10th gen

#

wow

#

intel numbering scheme make sense challenge (impossible)

#

seems about right

#

interesting

#

is your laptop plugged in while playing

#

i know some laptops deliberately throttle down while unplugged to preserve battery life

signal veldt
#

It's plugged in

should the gc generation be changed

#

and if that cpu is actually running at 1GHz...

white kayak
#

also, how many mods do you have enabled trollshiro

frozen gulch
#

base frequency is 1ghz which is like suspiciously low

white kayak
#

sounds about right for laptops tbh

frozen gulch
#

though knowing what mods are enabled in the video would help @signal veldt

white kayak
#

well, if vanilla works but everest doesnt then something is goofing around here

lyric walrus
#

are you using savestates?

signal veldt
#

No

lyric walrus
#

hmm, yea idk

signal veldt
#

The lag started happening after a CelesteTAS update but disabling that mod doesn't remove the lag so I'm guessing it's just a coincidence

white kayak
#

and is it as bad with no mods enabled at all?

lyric walrus
#

inb4 one of the mods has a memory leak baddyhueh

signal veldt
frozen gulch
#

what if you enable just celestetas?

signal veldt
#

Hmm I enabled all my mods again and the lag is gone (even after disabling No Respawn GC)... I'm guessing it's going to show up randomly after a few days/weeks but for now I can't really help investigate

frozen gulch
#

hmm

white kayak
#

probably something was running in the bg

#

likely a windows update

signal veldt
#

It would have been running for multiple days in a row and stop when I enabled the frosthelper setting

#

Seems weird

#

Maybe changing my enabled/disabled mods fixed it somehow? I had to enable frosthelper first before I could use the setting

white kayak
#

i mean, something mustve changed, and enabling and disabling something wont have any persistent marks

#

i can only say that if it happens again try disabling mods and enabling/disabling that

I don't believe so but it's been quite some time so I don't really remember

#

I do always keep my everest updated though
