#Inputs occasionally lagging/being dropped

I joined the server for this issue as it's been extremely problematic lately. I have several hundred hours. While they are mostly on other computers, I definitely have played Celeste (Strawberry Jam Expert Maps) on my current computer before with no issues, and I've never seen this issue before. I first discovered this problem when I picked up Spring Collab 2020 again while playing through some beginner maps. I noticed a weird phenomenon where my inputs would occasionally get dropped or just be around a quarter second late. However, the rest of my inputs are unaffected and the game plays completely normally otherwise (as far as I can tell). I tried swapping back to vanilla Celeste and the problem started cropping up there as well. I have no clue what could be causing this, and I've tried several things (listed below) to fix this issue with no success.

  • Restarting the game
  • Restarting my computer
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Celeste
  • Unloading every mod and playing vanilla
  • Swapping Celeste to OpenGL (someone else on this server had this exact problem and that fixed it for them)

Additionally, the inconsistent input dropping/lag is itself inconsistent - I played a lot yesterday with minimal issues and was even able to collect the 3A gold berry (a testament to the lack of this issue), but today I open the game and the lag happens consistently enough that the game is extremely frustrating due to this issue causing me to die every 2 minutes or so.

Does anyone know what might be going on? Any advice would be very appreciated!

There are two types of logs; crash logs and log.txt.

Crash logs are generated when you see an "Oooops! :(" crash handler screen. They contain extra information which regular logs don't.
To access those, there's a button that says Open log file folder, which should take you to where they're stored. Make sure to grab the latest one!

For more subtle issues, non-crashing problems or other miscellaneous stuff, log.txt is checked. To find it, do the following:

  • Open Olympus.
  • Press the Manage button in the Installations panel on Olympus' main menu. (it's to the left)
  • Press Browse to open the Celeste folder.
  • Look for the file named exactly log.txt inside that folder. Do not grab error_log.txt or look into the LogHistory folder as those are not the log.txt you're looking for.

Your username may sometimes show up in those logs. If you're concerned about that, remember to censor it before uploading. Every text editor should have a replace function, commonly opened with Ctrl+H.

you attached the olympus log (the launcher)

#

seems like a pretty uncommon issue, you might want to try making sure your everest and mods are up to date (but if it affects vanilla it probably won't help), making sure your graphics drivers are up to date or verifying game files if you have the game from steam

Oh yeah I already did the “verifying game files” thing it didn’t help

#

I’ll check out the drivers though, and I’ll make sure to get that log fixed

#

Thanks!

if the issue also applies to vanilla i highly doubt it's everest

#

it might be a keyboard issue

languid relic

I’ve already checked keyboard ghosting and I don’t think that’s the problem

sometimes for whatever reason a few inputs would get dropped but the keyboard would still queue them up so they would eventually arrive, just delayed a bit

i dont have a wireless keyboard

#

if it is a keyboard issue though, then what is there to be done about it?

river wagon
#

can you try swapping keyboards or something

languid relic

For some people, certain keys will not be picked up by FNA Celeste / Everest.
On windows, this can be fixed by manually enabling the XNA keyboard driver.

  • Create an everest-env.txt file inside your Celeste folder

  • Put the below inside, and save the file.
    EVEREST_NEW_KEYBOARD_INPUT=1

  • Open Everest.

ignore the first bit of info, this used to be used for people whose keys did not work properly

Which parts do I do then? Sorry I just want to make sure before I mess with to is stuff

i should've clarified, i meant to say ignore this bit snip_plant
