Hi celestecord !
I tried to update my Everest to the latest stable version, and it moved some files around like intended, but then to open the game it went through steam (which isn't supposed to happen) and so I couldn't open my game (at all, everest or vanilla).
I tried to re-manual select my Celeste.exe but it doesn't seem to help.
How can I tell it to not go through Steam and just launch the game with the exe ? Do I have to downgrade ?

#Update to CORE version forces launch through Steam so I can't open the game anymore

where did you get your celeste from?
i'm sorry but we can't provide support on pirated versions of celeste
so I have to downgrade to latest legacy ?
while that is possible, some mods will require the latest version
a lot of them are migrating
so you'd need to get the game legitimately
like on steam, itch.io or epic games
it's often on sale though
i hope you'll manage to find a cheap copy
I'm not going to enter such a topic, I have my reasons as to why I didn't get the Steam version
so downgrading I go
same issues
I don't want to pay for an access to a game, I'd rather pay for the game itself with a physical copy
sadly, Celeste doesn't have one so I'm planning on buying the OST instead to support the devs
if you really want to know
anyway, thanks for the answer !
i think fangamer from time to time makes phisical copies for celeste, tho i dont know if those exist for pc
there are switch physical copies but I never found PC ones
and if the issue here is not: "i dont want to buy anything that is not physical", but rather, "you dont own the games you buy through steam", then the itch version is completely drm free so you do fully own that, you only cannot distribute it
I'd rather say the issue is "how can I launch everest on the latest version using the .exe"
I can do the "buy the game" part myself
and thats what you should do if you want to get support, otherwise (i dont want sound rude but) you're on your own
you don't know where the .exe is ?
and the everest one ?
theres no everest one, everest is "inside" that one
and the vanilla one (the non modified) is on the orig folder
oh I see
I'm just gonna say it: a pirated copy won't ever work with Core Everest, and non-Core Everest is on its way out
And sorry but your DRM stance is complete BS
itch builds are DRM free
You can burn the files on a CD if you want to have a physical copy or something
But they don't have any integration or online requirement or license check whatsoever
You can do whatever you want with those files, you can immediately delete your itch account after buying it and nothing will change
And do not expect people, who obviously are fans of the devs work, to help you after admitting you did not legally obtain a copy of their beloved game
@rain oracle TL;DR: buy the itch version, burn it on a CD if you want to have a physical disc, then come back
thank you for adding nothing of value to this conversation
anyway, you might be here to help after all, so now I got the itch.io version, do I just need to manually select the .exe and install everest like usual ?
Yep
Also the "nothing of value" part is an interesting claim from someone who violated the policies here and complained that people don't want to help them
why are you being so provocative
there's no need to get mad over this
I'll just ask you to study up about the reasonings behind piracy and such before being so aggressive
Also don't put me apart from "the fans of the devs work", I love Celeste too D:
- I wasn't the first one being provocative here
- I am well aware of the (sometimes valid) reasons to pirate games or other media - none of these apply to Celeste
- I am not denying your enthusiasm for the game, I am denying that your enthusiasm had any impact on the devs until recently, and that this might be a matter of importance to the people in this community who care about the dev's financial success

I could keep arguing but I don't think that's the place to talk about this
do you want to move over to DMs ?
I am not sure I am up for this discussion at all
The TL;DR though is that the policy here is that pirated copies get no support
And you are not entitled to be treated differently, no matter which "reasons" you might have
I didn't ask for the everest team to make a steam pirated copy support
just some questions about "does it work" and "do I have to get another version"
It definitely read more like "how do I get this to work on my pirated copy"
