#everest stuck on loading
174 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
this looks like you just force closed the game shortly before it would've been done loading
do it take that long damn
my bad g
- is this abnormal (can launch everest from steam)
(log time is an hour too fast) does it take much longer
game is fullscreen cant screenshot
(no load)
¯_(ツ)_/¯
from what i can see it's taking ages to load dialog and fonts
that makes no sense
(MTN.LoadData();) is where the MTN DATA LOAD - n ms log comes from
for me dialog/font loading times are 814ms
this is suspicious
what about this though
steam wont launch celeste only everest not that it matters
i've never seen that before
ah yes
so i'd say this is abnormal
might be a bold assumption but maybe it's corruption?
try verifying game files and reinstalling everest
i think i did that a few times already
verifying game files didnt do anything i could see until i deleted celeste from steamapps common so it downloaded vanilla again, hopefully that didnt completely break anything
it shouldn't
installing everest should get you back on your feet after redownloading vanilla
at least everest loads if i disable all the mods
hm
but that's just celeste
maybe one of your mods is corrupted..?????
mmm makes sense
try doing a mod bisect
A mod bisect is a way to find a misbehaving mod without having to check them one by one.
Here are steps on how to do it:
- Disable half of your enabled mods.
- Check to see if the issue persists.
- If it does:
- The mod that is causing the issue is still enabled. Disable half of your enabled mods.
- If it doesn't:
- The problematic mod has just been disabled. Enable the mods you just disabled, and disable the ones you had enabled.
- Repeat step 2 until you narrow your search to 1 mod.
i mean i did it already
forgot how i did it but it did it pretty fast
basically i was using windows and had like 100 mods but only wanted to get the sj dependencies so i got sj and made it install the dependencies
oh you mean the everest dependency installer
yes
did you like delete every single sj dependency and redownloaded it
nah i just deleted the mods folder
yess
yeah maybe ill just uh read the list manually
i have the old ones from my windows game stored somewhere
time to copy 50 mods
arent they newly installed
and hey isnt my progress gone if i just reinstall them
it isn't
hmm
ive cut and pasted the celeste folder and redownloaded the whole game at least 3 times so they might be gone somewhere
unless it's in steam cloud for no reason
i have them backed up somewhere so it's fine
im sure it doesnt
okay so anyway
since you're experiencing freezes like this only when sj and other mods are installed, maybe try redownloading the mods you want / narrowing your search down to one mod
narrowing your search down to one mod
i think that means all of them
sure
doubt
im not here to find the needle in the hay
i can just shred the whole thing!
and waste like 20 minutes redownloading every 50 mods when you could be only redownloading one mod instead
i think i have more than 20 minutes wasted by now
yeah redownload one mod only to find it didnt do anything
lets be real who here uses their time productively
that's where the ✨ mod bisect ✨ comes in
who invented that
it saves like what half an hour
if youre going to use linux then you probably have half an hour
..?
watch the soothing download bar or just play a different game while it downloads
point is i have half an hour to waste
so im not bisecting the angle
or the mod
whatever floats your boat, i guess
im just wondering how all my modded saves got downloaded when i verified game files after deleting the celeste folder
is steam just based like that
you know
are you not meant to run this thing with proton
i dont see linux support anywhere and disabling force proton wont open the game but i saw people talking about the native linux version of celeste?
you are very likely not supposed to run it with proton
steam has a native linux version
cant find linux port on gogle
it's on steam
i have no clue, because steam is supposed to have a native linux port
you're still not screwed however
but it's not listed on the store?
yes it is?
I think the steam icon is supposed to represent linux
probably because "SteamOS + Linux"
yea
FYI, not sure how you think you have the Windows version, but if you think so because of the .exe that's there everywhere
Also, I had the inifinite loading hang a while ago as well
if i turn off force proton it wont open though
What fixed it for me was disabling all mods, updating everything through Olympus, then reenabling just the minimum ones required
sure hope the most popular mod doesnt use 51 helpers
this seems to imply that the install doesnt match the os
turn off proton, verify game files, reinstall everest perhaps?
good idea
does anyone know what linux celeste folder looks like, this really looks like a windows one
looks windows to me
this is why it's complaining that it doesn't look like a linux install
yeah i think i turned off proton before delete game > verify files > redownloaded
there's no Celeste and Celeste.bin_x86-64 or whatever
gosh darn steam
i saw one of those before a few days ago but deleted the game again because nothing worked
anyway i turned off force proton for celeste, enable steam play for unsupported titles is off in global settings but enable steam play for supported titles is forced on
I have all the steam play options enabled but steam still gives me a native linux celeste
this should be good enough then
long shot but are you on the opengl beta or something
how to check
anyway i think the problem is more fundamental
im redownloading the game again
hopefully it will have the x86 thing
"betas" tab in the property window
of what
no betas
then I will have to resort to calling the steam exorcist
no lol
i mean my internet is kinda slow so in a while ill know if i can get the linux version
there's always the option to do this
yes
it says updating 500/700mb but the games folder is still 183kb lol what
ok i probably just forgot to turn off force proton before?
where saves folder
~/.local/share/Celeste/Saves
oh
starting native miniistaller taking long time ;-;
in olympus
for once it wasnt stuck and was just slow woo
i dont think discord lets you edit tags to resolved but it works now i think
thanks all
im so good at linuxing
steam keeps changing it back to windows (or at least killing celeste.bin.x86_64 and some other stuff) so i used the linuxifier 2000 and olympus doesnt detect an everest installation even though the celeste folder is full of its files, at least for once miniinstaller didnt die a brutal death then this somehow happened lol, i will try to fix it myself but that will definitely not go well
first screenshot is after installing everest, steam complains about missing exe and revalidating the game updates 7 files, 'removing residual files from old .net/core/everest/something' leads to the second screenshot with celeste.sh and the binaries in the folder, but then olympus doesnt see everest and using the gui installer leads back to the first...
found this in .local
went back to proton because a. steam kept giving me the windows version (as shown) and b. didnt want to launch the linuxified version (2nd image)
mod bisect fixed it not loading but like i cant only use half the dependencies
font loading my enemy
ok i guess it just refuses to load further
love deep fried celeste
steam is actively sabotaging me, it works perfectly until i shut down/restart, when i launch with everest steam literally changes it to a windows install and olympus cant find binaries and it's all bad
edit a month later, you can get steam to just download the linux version if you go properties -> compatibility layer -> steam linux runtime (scout/soldier etc)
