#Graphical Glitches on Linux

wave Around two weeks ago, i uninstalled Windows 11, and switched to Fedora Linux, to get better performance out of my HP Laptop. Most of my games work without issue, except for Celeste. While the gameplay is perfectly intact, there are various graphical bugs, specifically with lighting effects.

From my observation, it seems like every time there are any lighting effects that create a bloom/glow effect, there are blocky, and flickery visuals on top.

In vanilla celeste, the issue is there, but it only becomes noticeable in c8, and c9. In modded maps, the lighting glitches are especially noticeable since many modded maps (at least the ones ive played in StJ, and Spring Collab2020) use lighting effects, and shaders.

While this issue isn't a massive problem, i would at least like to know what the exact cause is, if possible. Ive recorded a video of the issue, and left a document with some information about my setup In FastFetchInfo.txt.

Is this an issue caused by my hardware (Intel Iris XE GPU), How celeste is set up to run (Using the native linux install for both celeste, and everest), or something else, i havent factored? While my intent is to get as close to fixing the issue as possible, i understand if that isnt possible, and in that case, i would simply like to know the source of the problem, for peace of mind. gladbadeline

  • i should mention that launching celeste vanilla, instead of everest still gives the same result, so the issue is likely with either my hardware, or the software drivers, and rendering APIs.

  • My setup uses the steam installation of the game, with all of the files being the same as my Windows 11 installation, thanks to steam's cloud backups.

probably a borked graphics driver of some kind

yeah I'm gonna go with "your graphics card needs an exorcist"

all of the drivers i have installed are up to date, so maybe some are missing from the package? i'll try solving it on my own from here, but thank you both for the lead gladbadeline
