#olympus install not working

For some users, Olympus freezes on a white or black screen on startup for unknown reasons. You can attempt the following fixes:
-If you have a third party antivirus, check if it's blocking/quarantining Olympus.
-Restart your PC.
-Delete and reinstall Olympus.
If none of those work, no fix for this is currently known and you have to use one of the following alternate installation methods:
-On Windows, the old graphical Everest installer is available at https://gamebanana.com/dl/430740.
-Mons (https://github.com/coloursofnoise/mons/) is a command line based cross-platform installer that is similarly powerful to Olympus. However, it requires some base familiarity with the command line.
-Alternatively, you can use the manual installation method described under "Cross-platform manual installation" at https://everestapi.github.io/.

#

you could also send the log-sharp.txt in C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Olympus\

proper canyon
#

ok thanks

#

it worked

#

wait

#

now it says this

west quartz
#

well, do what the installer says

#

send the installer-log.txt

proper canyon
#

there

west quartz
#

install stable

#

the graphical installer doesn't support core

proper canyon
#

ok

#

again

west quartz
#

4033 doesn't exist

#

install 4030

proper canyon
#

ok

west quartz
#

mmm it's the hookgen error

#

do you know where your celeste is installed

#

can you get miniinstaller-log.txt from there

proper canyon
#

i can find it

west quartz
#

oh, it's right there

#

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Celeste

proper canyon
#

there

west quartz
#

mm

#

just as i thought

#

this should give the full log, and if that still doesn't show the error then i have no clue what's going on

proper canyon
#

this is what u need?

west quartz
#

precisely determineline

#

i think ik what's going on

#
  • verify your game files through steam
  • go to where your celeste is installed, you'll need to delete some files:
    • files that start with...
      • Celeste.Mod.mm
      • MiniInstaller
      • Mono.Cecil
      • MonoMod
      • NETCoreifier
    • the file MMHOOK_Celeste.dll
  • install everest stable 4351 again (do NOT install 4352; that version does not actually exist)
#

cc @alpine prism @distant vale i think this is the cause behind all those sudden hookgen crashes when installing everest

#

also cc @digital turret

proper canyon
#

it installed

west quartz
#

my hypothesis was correct

proper canyon
#

thanks man

#

it was

west quartz
#

technical info; the leftover files from when you tried to install core everest were built with a newer version of c# (.net core 7), and the stable everest is made with the version celeste was made in (.net framework 4.5.2)
the leftover core files threw the stable installer off and crashed it when trying to install stable everest

west quartz
#

yyyup

#

looks good to me

proper canyon
#

now i just gotta find where tf it hit olympus on my pc

#

hid*

west quartz
#

olympus is in %appdata%\Olympus

#

but

#

what was the issue again, opens, stays on a white screen and then it closes?

proper canyon
#

yep

#

still doing it

west quartz
#

okay so, there's a bunch of log files it leaves behind

#

they're in %localappdata%\Olympus (that's a different location)

#

could you send the log.txt and log-sharp.txt?

proper canyon
#

yep

#

it says upload fail for the other one

west quartz
#

oh, why so

#

is the file empty?

proper canyon
#

yes

west quartz
proper canyon
#

that would be why

west quartz
#

try deleting it

#

delete log-sharp.txt for good measure too, it's basically empty

#

then try opening olympus

proper canyon
#

nope.

#

same white screen

west quartz
#

hm, did it make any new log files?

proper canyon
#

yeah

west quartz
#

can you send them?

#

i'm guessing log-sharp will be basically empty too

proper canyon
#

same thing i think

west quartz
#

yup

#

what about log.txt

proper canyon
#

but log.txt is emptyu

west quartz
#

also upload failed?

proper canyon
#

yep

west quartz
#

i guess discord doesn't like empty files thonkeline

#

have you restarted your pc?

proper canyon
#

uhhmm

#

i have now

west quartz
#

does it work?

proper canyon
#

no

west quartz
#

i have one last ditch effort

#

so, open %appdata%\Olympus

#

this is where olympus is installed

proper canyon
#

yes

west quartz
#

shift+right click, open powershell prompt and type in .\main.exe --console

#

what does it say

proper canyon
#

i shift+right click the entire file?

west quartz
#

uhh anywhere in the folder

proper canyon
west quartz
#

did it stop

#

press enter again

proper canyon
#

it did stop

west quartz
#

ok hm

#

at least it doesn't crash outright making the window

proper canyon
#

any ideas?

west quartz
#

looking through olympus source atm

proper canyon
#

alr

west quartz
# proper canyon alr

from what i gathered it seems to be crashing when trying to find steam game shortcuts

proper canyon
#

so in needa make one?

west quartz
#

well, no

#

do you have a userdata folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam?

proper canyon
#

yes

west quartz
#

what's in it

proper canyon
#

these

#

they have files in them too

#

lots of numbers

west quartz
#

hm

#

i guess it's throwing it off because you don't have a config folder

proper canyon
#

probably

west quartz
#

try making it?

#

can be an empty folder

proper canyon
#

ok

#

alr

west quartz
#

try running olympus now

proper canyon
#

ok

#

nop

#

still white

west quartz
#

hmm

#

closes too i assume

west quartz
proper canyon
#

yep

proper canyon
west quartz
#

well yes, i mean the powershell thing

proper canyon
#

same thing

west quartz
#

ends in steam root <...>?

proper canyon
#

yep

west quartz
#

hm

proper canyon
west quartz
#

yeah f

#

hm

#

or wait no, i'm misreading this

#

you can delete the empty config folder you made

#

go to the folder with a bunch of numbers instead

#

is there a config folder?

proper canyon
#

yeppers

west quartz
#

hm

#

is there a shortcuts.vdf file

proper canyon
#

nope

west quartz
#

thonkeline okay so that'll skip a bunch of things

proper canyon
#

ok

#

so.

west quartz
#

hm, i'm still not sure why it just stops suddenly

proper canyon
#

me either

west quartz
#

it's getting sorta late atm so i'll look into this later probably

proper canyon
#

alr

#

thanks for the help

west quartz
#

meanwhile you'll have to install mods manually by putting them in your Mods folder where your celeste is installed

proper canyon
#

pretty sure i still have a bunch

west quartz
#

they'll still be installed if you didn't mess with them for a while

proper canyon
#

sick

proper canyon
#

sooooooooooooooooo...

dreamy charm
#

this is the error log, would appreciate some help

digital turret
#

did you try following the steps in that message i linked

dreamy charm
#

will go through it now

#

He did that, it worked! he has everest!

#

now, how will he install mods

#

since he has no olympus user interface

whole thunder
dreamy charm
#

got it, thanksu!
