no one?
no response because this is so fucking weird we cannot get any info from it
do you have any log files on %localappdata%/Olympus?
yes
log, log sharp, log launcher
ok send the all
do whatever is easier for you
You sent a Celeste log when you were supposed to send the Olympus logs mentioned earlier
im so dumb
im sending the other log
mb mb
wheres the olympus log?
%localappdata%\Olympus
it says upload failed
can you maybe zip the log files (there should be 3, log, logsharp, loglauncher) and upload the zip?
kk
if there's invalid characters or something, zipping should let you upload them
log.txt empty (0 bytes)
loglauncher: (

i don't think that stuff ^ is really relevant
well if it's crashing, it's probably not an internet connection error (which is what that stuff is), because i'd expect that to be caught and displayed nicely
so a weird thing
i don't see any other errors, so whatever's going wrong isn't getting logged
this is olympus crashing, so extremely unlikely to be a mod doing it
do i reinstall olympus?
yea that's probably a good idea
will my progress saved
yes
olympus is an entirely separate program from everest
i don't think there's an uninstaller, but you should be able to do it manuallt
alr
so im just uninstalling the whole olympus folder
do i need to uninstall olympus ahorn too
that shouldn't affect anything
ah kk
now lemme install olympus back
reinstalled, this is the pop up
(appeared before too)
naïvely, 0xB is a very weird address to be writing to, though i don't know windows stuff that well
anyway i'd suggest looking into alternatives to olympus, as it definitely isn't mandatory to use it
For some users, Olympus freezes on a white or black screen on startup for unknown reasons. You can attempt the following fixes:
-If you have a third party antivirus, check if it's blocking/quarantining Olympus.
-Restart your PC.
-Delete and reinstall Olympus.
If none of those work, no fix for this is currently known and you have to use one of the following alternate installation methods:
-On Windows, the old graphical Everest installer is available at https://gamebanana.com/dl/430740.
-Mons (https://github.com/coloursofnoise/mons/) is a command line based cross-platform installer that is similarly powerful to Olympus. However, it requires some base familiarity with the command line.
-Alternatively, you can use the manual installation method described under "Cross-platform manual installation" at https://everestapi.github.io/.
i'd recommend the manual installation method if you need to install everest as it's the most reliable
also, you can launch everest by just running celeste.exe like normal (i.e. as if it wasn't modded)
ahorn is more complicated to run by itself, i'd recommend just using lönn instead as it's way more stable when run that way
so which link do i use
the third one, if you want to install / update everest
and press install everest?
scroll all the way to "Cross-platform manual installation", and follow the instructions
again, if you already have the latest everest you don't need to do that
what does this help me with if i cant even open olympus..
well, what do you want to use olympus for? everything it can do is also possible with separate tools, so i'm explaining how to use those
mods
playing modded celeste just requires having everest installed, which you already should if you were playing mods before this
so you can just launch celeste
celeste normally from the launcher i bought it from?
yea
you can download them from gamebanana and put them in your mods folder, which is next to celeste.exe
wow thats gonna suck
alternatively if you're familiar with the commandline you could use mons
wtf is that
https://github.com/coloursofnoise/mons/, it's a commandline tool that has a similar role to olympus
ok im just gonna simply not play celeste anymore until a fix is out
unfortunately i don't have any idea what the problem could be, so unless someone else knows i don't think it will be fixed
in the logs says its trying to connect to localhost
that is, i think its failing to conect to the csharp exec
but that error message makes things even weirder
yea, but that sort of communication error makes sense if the other threads crash immediately, which it looks like they do here
maybe theres an abort sequence if connecting fails? im not familiar with olympus code
since it is required to make it work
cuz otherwise it'd be only an useless ui
they could try the old installer
yea but that doesn't have a nice mod browser, which is what he wants olympus for
then theyre out of luck if this doesn't fix itself
or until the olympus fna rewrite is done, but that wont be nowhere soon
literally the only thing i want olympus for is mods
and no way im searching for mods on game banana whenever a new one comes out or when i want a new one
you could check out #modding_showcase regularly to get to know new mods, but then installation would be manual (although it's just dropping a file)
But Olympus basically does the exact samd thing, searching for mods on Gamebanana and downloading a zip file to your Mods folder. If you're unwilling to do that without Olympus, and that's a reason for you to stop playing Celeste entirely, that's just weird imho
im not wasting 5 mins of my time for a mod

how does it take 5 minutes longer than through olympus
the only extra step is downloading to the correct location
and browsers will generally remember download locations by website
also I think the old installer also has a URI handler, so if you install the old installer, you can use the 1-click installer button on gamebanana
and I wouldn't be that confident about this, sometimes antiviruses change
scanned it
olympus worked out of nowhere
wth
and ofc it crashed again
crashes after 10 secs
same crash?
is it the same crash message as before?
is there any other way to install celeste into olympus except pressing the manage button
yes, by editing %localappdata%\Olympus\config.json
actually, can you send that file?
config.json?
also, can you cause it to crash, and then send log.txt and log-sharp.txt?
ok so
im gonna make a zip with config,json, log.txt and log-sharp
and then send it
log-launcher too?
sure
if you replace your config.json file's contents with
{
"loennInstalledVersion":"",
"lastrun":3312,
"fonts":["data/fonts/Poppins-Regular.ttf","data/fonts/NotoSansCJKjp-Regular.otf","data/fonts/NotoSansCJKkr-Regular.otf","data/fonts/NotoSansCJKsc-Regular.otf","data/fonts/NotoSansCJKtc-Regular.otf"],
"bg":0,
"theme":"default",
"updates":"stable",
"overlay":1,
"ahorn":{
"vhdPath":"",
"vhdMountPath":"",
"rootPath":"",
"mode":"vhd",

},

}],

"bg":true,

},
"mapeditor":"loenn",
"loennRootPath":"C:\\Users\\toshiba\\AppData\\Local\\Olympus\\loenn",
"parallax":1
}
(but change C:\\path\\to\\celeste\\folder to the actual path to your celeste folder, with \s changed to \\s)
that counts as adding an install, like how the manage menu would work
logs look the same (except for different port numbers as expected) as earlier, not sure what's going on there
what
okay
so im copy and pasting that
so i remove the contents of config.json and paste that
ok so i passted that
i have no idea what this menas
means
like this is chinese to me
- go in file explorer to the folder that has celeste.exe in it
- copy the path of that folder out of the address bar
- replace
C:\\path\\to\\celeste\\folderin config.json with that path - replace the
\s in the path you just pasted with\\s (double the number of slashes)
yes
wdym copy the path of that folder out of the address bar
if there's a bunch of other stuff like dlls there, that's the right folder
the address bar is the thing at the top of the file explorer window, that has the path to the folder
this?
yea
so you want it to say "path":"D:\\ItchGames\\celeste" instead of "path":"C:\\path\\to\\celeste\\folder"
and then olympus will know about it
find the line that says "path":"C:\\path\\to\\celeste\\folder", and change it to "path":"D:\\ItchGames\\celeste"
theres no line that says that
theres no line that even says something related to "path"
this is the only thing
there should be if you pasted this
i mean a line in the config.json file when you open it in a text editor
yea
replace it with "path":"D:\\ItchGames\\celeste"
(double slashes are important)
now if you open olympus it should be able to install mods into your celeste install
provided it doesn't do anything weird
IT WORKED
YAA
tysm
sorry for putting up with my bs
and no knowledge of programming
happy to help!
you too
