it's been a while now that i see those around in the game, mostly in mods. they make using custom tech and reading tutorials pretty much impossible and uncool. don't know how it happened, my keyboard and controller settings look all correct, no weird stuff in them.

do you have bingoUI installed?
if so turn off the “mask controls” or something along those lines

i will note that i have had the same problem for a long while as well. It's not problem in the base game (because i already know how it works), but in modded, it's a problem when i'm supposed to press specific buttons that i don't know which are.

ok well clearly it's a mod doing something, because with all mods disabled it works fine
wait no nevermind, all mods disabled and still
however all mods disabled fix the one in the keyboard config menu
but in controller config it's still broken??

it might be detecting something you have has a strange controller? you could try forcing it to show keyboard binds
