i prefer official personally; a lot of community servers have a lot of rules that make me feel restricted when playing when i just want to have fun, or they have no population, are only active at certain times, or have 100+ ping (rip straya)

I don't doubt that they do act when they can. But like I said during OCE prime time I've yet to see one even type in this channel let alone kick anyone or action anything. It's not a dig against them. I know they can't be expected to be everywhere which is why some of us are trying to solve the problem our selves by offering alternatives (Hosted in Syd btw with a constant 30~ping I experience from SA). People just need to figure out if the 30 seconds it takes to switch to unofficial servers is worth it to avoid dying to hackers.

admins also shouldnt talk and be active too much in these channels, as that will tell hackers when they are active/online and they will either be more subtle or wont be online/wait till the admins seem afk - its part of their NDA

i remember people getting upset at an admin who was talking in here (i was a lil miffed too) but it is part of their NDA and said admin wasnt actively AT their computer at the time, but people in here got annoyed at them anyways

im in wa, so im further away from 90% of the servers, i get higher ping, its not an internet issue unfortunately, its location (tas is the same, i used to live there too, but the cables running across the bass strait make it take longer to reach mainland servers)

my average ping is sitting at a constant 50~ if not ~80 during peak times, unofficial servers do not make that any less for me. and, again, unofficial ones that i have seen/visited tend to have extra rules that i dont personally enjoy playing by

not trying to argue or start a fight, just explaining myself is all. it also makes me worry a bit seeing admins copping a lot of bull when ive seen them actively doing stuff to help players
