Yeah, big part of this game is finding a good place to set up. Your main goal is to reach the end of your adulthood where you are the strongest and safest from predators. From there you can either try starting a nest with others of your same species and raise children, or go off and slaughter anything that moves.

You wont ever be able to see through the water unless you're aquatic yourself. You have to pick your drinking areas wisely, or be lucky. You can further your chances by changing drinking locations, and only taking small sips at a time if you're uncertain a water body is safe to drink from

I’d recommend trying to get a pounce, then dismounting fairly quickly after and just keep on top of your target til they bleed out.

I don’t really think there’s much else you can do on your own as trying to go head to head isn’t really the best idea solo.

Not as Omni anyway. Too easy for a slip up to cost you a lot of health and be forced to back off.

That is if you survive at all.

But I’m not that experienced so I’m just offering mostly what I would try.
