If you're a herbivore, that is where your food is located. You will find diets there, be aware the zones can be large and can take a bit to locate the food within. Press TAB and you can see what diets you have active at the moment and it can give you a clue as to where you are migrating to.
As a carnivore it just indicates that the migration zone is a place you can find possible herbivores.
