It happens pretty much regularly unfortunately. So what happens is the servers show the incorrect amount of people (eg: 20/100) yet the server is full hence it kicks you back. Try restarting your game sometimes it needs a refresh

You can direct connect to legacy servers via their ip address with a steam prompt. If you find a server that sounds like your jam it's pretty easy. A had a friend show me how, I played on two servers for a bit

carnivores know theres more food in the east so they go which results in more carnivores going until it's a hotspot
I think the solution would be increasing the player count drastically to account for the scale of the map, I imagine that's apart of the way ahead for this game and likely not the number 1 concern right now
