There are certain trees where they live and circle around. These act as environmental sound cues. When one gets close, they broadcast their noise potentiolly alerting others to your presence.

BTW, you can't kill them and they attack you when you stay very close. They also attack Pteras sometimes when fishing.

Are you holding it all the way till the animation loop is completed? It can be a bit iffy if you let go too early
