It could be simbler. Like if you are in an overpack for too long you get more hunger and thirst so the game kinda "force" the players either eat each other or get seperated for some time. And if they insist to hunt all together it puts a "stop" because they have to take breaks for eating and drinking.

Yeah for example Raptors can be 7 in a group or a little more with the mutation, so if they are like 8+ without mutation packing from the Group Leader they should get more hunger and thirst as they play. That would affect them by slowly by time and they will either get in separeted groups or kill some of their own to feed themselves. It's kinda the same people that "Causes" this problem also "solve" it.

Keep in mind that this will give Devs pain. So that's why i said keep it simple. If you are in a close range (take for example scent radius) with the same species (for starters, and later maybe they figure out how to make it work with different species) you get 20% more hunger. Which is already in game but the other way around. It's simpler this way to do modifications and get it to work that add new things that may bug etc. Also with this in mind mutations which are garbage such as 20% food drop rate and the other one for more people in group kinda get a "buff" and it actually can be useful if you want to do that kind of playstyle. Like be in a horde or a big group that kills everything. It feels more realistic, has it's drawbacks, i think it's easier for the devs to make it work with some shenaniguns in coding and overall it's more "fair" for everyone.
