I just keep up with my water changes and squeezing the filter sponge out when I do a change

I only have to do a water change 1x a month but only 20-25% or it can shock the fish

ya it looks like it's been a little while since a change has been done unless you don't have a lid on that tank, then it would make sense to evaporate that much

ya I would say if you want to get the tank back in really good shape, do a 20% water change 2 weekends in a row and make sure you really squeeze out those air filter sponges. They can't clean the water if they're clogged up with gunk

the tank is low enough stock that if you maintain the water quality and don't overdo the lighting the algae should go away slowly over time if you don't want to take everything out and scrub it

my dad wanted one of these guys as they usually don't mind others as long as they aren't guppys apparently, but it is still a cichlid so i am not sure

ah blue rams are fine, though for a 20 gallon you probably don't want to get too many. You'll also want to get your water quality under control and stable before adding them because they're more sensitive

they're semi aggressive so you don't want to keep them with things like guppies mostly because of the long fins

the tetras you have won't be an issue with blue rams

I recommend waiting for your current tank to be cleared out then maybe cleaning it up and having a theme in mind. Like "I want this fish for cleanup crew, this fish for the 'filler fish', and this fish for the spotlight"

I had guppies and platies that had lots of babies I always managed to rescue a few and raise em to be big enough to not get eaten

When I get my own place I might take up breeding guppies or platies again

it's really fun to see little wiggly specks the size of a poppy seed turn into a whole fish

piggy, you should look into getting guppies or platies they're really fun and much easier to keep than tetras and cichlids. Also, they snack on algae
