so this is the thing people were wondering what it was from the first trailer

the monster doshaguma throws at the hunter

scarlet trellis

Its called a Balahara, indeed a sand leviathan

rustic badger

Calling it rn, those wing tips are what it uses as lightning rods to charge itself up in storms and travels with the storms, which the guild will mistake for it causing the storm but that will be the final boss(KING GHIDIRAH??)

Unfortunately we are pretty far from any Lagiacrus biome being in the middle of the desert 😄

What if they got in touch with Universal and got the rights to the Jurassic World/Park dinosaurs. Then added a different gamemode and instead of making the map by themselves they could let the community mapmodders create the Jurassic World/Park inspired map. And then you could have iconic dinosaurs and animations of everyone's favorite Jurassic World/Park Dinosaurs! Maybe even add humans!

Seems like it has very strong hind legs, with huge middle claws... reminds me of Espinas and Seregios. Well F, if its zappy Espinas, we are borked

scarlet trellis
# smoky mauve what other games does it compare to?

maybe Souls-like games? Cant really compare it to anything. You hunt large monsters, try to dodge their attacks, break their body parts for extra mats, bring said mats home, make new gear with them. You can fish, gather bugs, there are social stuff in the hubs pretty much. Here, this vid will give you a good starting point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IbIZ5Bg5xE

A complete explanation of what is Monster Hunter. Prefect for new or returning players to get ready for Monster Hunter World. Veteran players share with your non-Monster Hunting friends to get them up to speed.

Monster hunter is very much it's own thing gameplay wise

#

It has, very passing resemblance in the combat, but more in the sense one is likely inspired by the other (I think monhun is older than demon souls?)

#

But saying, take a large animal/monster boss from souls
And turning it into an entire game isn't a bad way to summarize it

dense field
#

MH is very established yes

#

Pretty old

soft lily
#

Started back in 2004

#

It’s basically a boss fight game with an emphasis on build crafting with a great array of movesets to choose from

distant nymph
#

I fell asleep watching it D:

#

Ohhhh!

dense field
#

The flagship looks amazing!

distant nymph
#

It does, yeah 😊

#

I love the "vibe" of these Trailers
It makes the game seem a lot darker and serious

dense field
#

Gameplay trailer in August

dense field
#

Ti's ok

#

Wait
If our characters are voiced

scarlet trellis
#

Your character and your palico too

dense field
#

Does that mean they actually put massive effort into doing that for each voice type?

#

Or did they just remove that

scarlet trellis
#

There might be only just two, male-female for all we know

dense field
#

At least in Japanese
I didn't play it in Engla

scarlet trellis
#

I dont remember that, havent played Risebreak in a while. If thats that, then its probably done that way in Wilds too

dense field
#

Yeah it's that
Some people find it weird too

#

Characters talking too much etc

#

But they're actually doing callouts

scarlet trellis
#

Well define too much, for all other games only the kitty talks in cat puns, even those are written. Every protag was silent.

#

So compared to zero, yea they talk too much suddenly 😄

dense field
#

Characters actively speak during combat
Audibly for each team member

#

I didn't find it bothering though

#

Cuz I don't understand Japanese lmao

#

It sounds cool so

scarlet trellis
#

Hahaha

#

Thats fine though, I played it with english voices. Found it unusual but wasnt bothersome.

dense field
#

It's probably the same thing
Like when Hunter said "I will draw it's ire" in the trailer, that sounded like something you'd say while wearing Challenger Mantle

I wonder if we'll get mantles back

distant nymph
#

I don't really mind too much either way, but it would be nice to still have the choice

dense field
#

i personally want character customization to be deeper

im sure it will be actually

Which would be sick

i am so wondering about the multiplayer

how does it work
is it the same system as World? which id like

Oh no, that's an elder

not even a Leviathan one cuz it uses Snake Skeleton

dense field
#

ah ok so its about how Leviathan used here
cuz in other media they're usually used to describe city size behemoths

they're a family or group i assume

like Wyverns?

I don't like guns

Fair honestly

dense field
# distant nymph

ooooh oooh
the start/activation animation must be the little "aim forward" hunter did in the first trailer with GS

distant nymph

That coupled with the new Weakness system, where if you hit a spot often it becomes weakend, seem really cool o:

dense field

definitely the activation here

It seems like that, yeah o:

rustic badger
dense field
#

yes
from the air

rustic badger
#

cuz you just fall down with teh clutch claw and can't really aim

#

And I always prefered getting down with Downward thrust

#

cuz its just so cool

dense field
#

its pretty straightforward no?
be above them, which isnt a hard feat with IG, and then launch downwrds

rustic badger
#

Hope we get more Weapon+kinsect combination attacks

rustic badger
dense field
#

happens lol
but not as much as you think!

rustic badger
#

eh I still prefered if it never existed

#

World's combat was fine enough without clutch claw, seems like wilds will be similar

distant nymph
#

I feel mostly neutral to it o:
As long as it's not the Weakpoint creation stuff

rustic badger
#

That was also so annoying

dense field
#

i also realised that the auras, the ones that surround you during special attacks like SnS' perfect rush or GS' charge, are more faint and simple

#

bro is glowing white here

#

which probably mean they have super armor

#

during that lunge

distant nymph
#

A bit, true o:

dense field

at the second trailer

#

the perfect guard of HBG also had a subtle glow

i liked the glowing effects but ill take the simplistic approach as well

on the other hand I jsut want to know more D:

rustic badger
#

I wonder what the other biomes will be like

#

There is so much stuff in this area alone

distant nymph
#

I hope we'll have a Jungle-Forest biome

rustic badger
#

Yes, Jungles are cool

#

maybe with a Swamp area too

#

Wonder if they'll make another Big tree?

#

or what if each area has some weird structure

distant nymph
#

I still have the small hope we might get Underwater combat
But I really doubt it

rustic badger
#

like desert area has the circular thing that looks like it got shot by a big Beam

#

The Forest Area could have a huge tree with a huge Hole in the middle

distant nymph
#

Something like that, yeah o:

dense field
#

That's why I don't search stuff up for this game
Even avoid given information lmao

Just gonna watch trailers and see rest myself

First Animal species of the day (328) :
Armoured searobin / Peristedion miniatum

#

is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Peristediidae, the armoured gurnards or armored sea robins. These fishes are found in Atlantic ocean waters.

#

Peristedion armoured gurnards have a ventrally flattened head and body which is protected by a bony armour of plates and spines. There is a two-pointed rostral projection on the snout and there are barbels under the lower jaw. They do not have robust spines on the preoperculum. The first dorsal fin has 7 or 8 spines and the second dorsal fin has between 18 and 20 soft rays while the anal fin has between 20 and 23 soft rays. There are between 11 and 13 fin rays enclosed within the membrane of the pectoral fin plus the two lowermost rays being separate

#

The pelvic fins are widely spaced, located under the base of the pectoral fins, and have 1 spine and 5 soft rays.[8] The smallest species in the genus is P. paucibarbiger, which has a maximum published standard length of 7 cm (2.8 in). The largest are the African armoured sea robin (P. cataphractum) and the armoured gurnard (P. liorhynchus) both of which have maximum published standard lengths of 540 cm (210 in).

First Animal species of the day (329) :
humpback anglerfish (Melanocetus johnsonii)

#

The humpback anglerfish (Melanocetus johnsonii) is a species of black seadevil in the family of Melanocetidae, which means "black whale" in Greek.[1] The species is named after James Yate Johnson, the English naturalist who discovered the first specimen in Madeira in 1863.

#

M. johnsonii inhabits the mesopelagic and bathypelagic zones, and is found most commonly at depths between 200 and 1,500 metres (660 and 4,920 ft).[5] Compared to other species in the genus, M. johnsonii is more likely to be found at shallower depths; 65% of recorded specimens were collected at depths at or above 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) below the surface of the water.[5] At these depths, there is little to no light penetrating from the surface photic zone. Because of this, the humpback anglerfish has evolved means of predation using bioluminescence based on the constraints of their habitat

#

M. johnsonii has the widest geographic distribution of all the species within the Melanocetus genus.[5] The species had been known to be widely distributed in the temperate and tropical ranges of all oceans

#

sharp teeth and huge stomachs that make them capable of eating nearly everything they encounter. Their stomachs are highly distensible and expand easily, allowing them to consume meals weighing more than themselves.[11] One M. johnsonii individual weighing 8.8 grams was retrieved using a trawl, and the specimen was found to have three snipe eels totaling 12.3 grams in its stomach

Females use the bulbous esca as a bioluminescent lure to attract prey

#

Searching for a mate for M. johnsonii is difficult because they live solitarily and far apart from each other in the deep sea.[6] Males have highly developed sensory organs that allow them to trace the scent of a female as it is minimally disrupted in the still waters of the deep sea.[15] Unlike in other species of anglerfish, males of M. johnsonii are non-parasitic.

Meaning he only bites her during breeding

He doesn’t fuse with her like other species ❌❌

#

M. johnsonii was classified as a "Least Concern" species on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species

First Animal species of the day (330) :
Arabian sand boa

#

Eryx jayakari, known commonly as the Arabian sand boa or Jayakar's sand boa, is a species of snake in the family Boidae.[3] The species is endemic to the Arabian Peninsula and Iran where it spends the day buried in the sand.

#

The Arabian sand boa is a small snake growing to a total length (including tail) of about 38 cm (15 in). The eyes are very small and are located on the top of the head, which has a blunt snout and is wedge-shaped. This snake's colour is yellowish-grey or sandy-brown speckled with white flecks and transversely banded with dark marks

#

The Arabian sand boa is native to the Arabian peninsula. Its geographic range includes :
Saudi Arabia
Qatar
Oman
Yemen
Kuwait
UAE
Iran

#

The Arabian sand boa is largely nocturnal and is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures. During the day it buries itself deep in the sand but moves towards the surface at dusk. Here it remains slightly below the surface with just its eyes projecting, ready to pounce with a sideways flick of its head, on any small creature that happens to pass.[5] Its prey includes short-fingered geckos (Stenodactylus spp.), the Baluch rock gecko (Bunopus tuberculatus), and worm lizards

#

The female lays a small clutch of eggs which hatch in about 66 days at a temperature of 33 °C (91 °F).[6]
Hatchlings don't develop an egg-tooth which would help them break out of their shells when they are ready to hatch, instead the mother helps her babies open their shells

#

The Arabian sand boa is listed by the IUCN as being of "Least Concern". This is because it has a very wide range, is common in at least parts of that range, and no particular threats have been identified.

The Arabian sand boa has gained notoriety on the Internet for looking, by many people's standards, "idiotic". This effect is largely due to the placement of the eyes on top of the head, making it look like a child's best attempt at drawing a snake.

Second Animal species of the day (331) :
spotted ratfish (Hydrolagus colliei)

#

The spotted ratfish (Hydrolagus colliei) is a chimaera found in the north-eastern Pacific Ocean. Often seen by divers at night in the Pacific Northwest, this cartilaginous fish gets its characteristic name from a pointed rat-like tail. The ratfish lays leathery egg cases on the bottom of muddy or sandy areas, which are often mistaken by divers as something inanimate. While mainly a deep-water species, it occurs at shallower depths in the northern part of its range. The generic name, Hydrolagus, comes from the Greek words ὕδωρ, meaning water

#

The spotted ratfish has a very distinct appearance compared to unrelated fish species. The female is up to 97 cm (38 in) long, much bigger than the male. These fish have a smooth and scaleless skin that is a silvery-bronze color, often with sparkling shades of gold, blue, and green. The speckled white spots along their backs contribute to their name. Dark edges outline both the caudal and dorsal fins, whereas the pectoral fins have a transparent outline. Their pectoral fins are large and triangular, and extend straight out from the sides of their bodies like airplane wings. They have a venomous spine located at the leading edge of their dorsal fin, which is used in defense. It does not present a serious danger to humans, but can cause painful wounds and has been known to kill harbor seals that ate spotted ratfish

#

The spotted ratfish can be found in the northeastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from Alaska to Baja California, with an isolated population in the Gulf of California.[1][3] They are abundant in much of their range.[1][3] They be found most commonly off the Pacific Northwest. The range of depths in which this fish is found extends from 0 to 913 m (0 to 2,995 ft) below sea level, but it is most common between 50 and 400 m (160 and 1,310 ft)

#

The spotted ratfish swims slowly above the seafloor in search of food. Location of food is done by smell. Their usual hunting period is at night, when they move to shallow water to feed. They are particularly drawn to crunchy foods such as crabs and clams. Besides these, the spotted ratfish also feeds on shrimp, worms, small fish, small crustaceans, and sea stars. Species known to prey on the spotted ratfish include soupfin sharks, dogfish sharks, Pacific halibut, pinnipeds, and pigeon guillemots.

#

The ratfish prefers to maintain a safe distance from divers, and are usually not aggressive. However, if they feel their territory has been invaded, they are able to inflict a mildly toxic wound with their dorsal fin spines. As they swim, they perform barrel rolls and corkscrew turns, as if they are flying. Ratfish swim using large pectoral fins, and this has often been termed aquatic flight given the resemblance to a bird

First Animal species of the day (332) :
Secretary bird

#

The secretarybird or secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius) is a large bird of prey that is endemic to Africa. It is mostly terrestrial, spending most of its time on the ground, and is usually found in the open grasslands and savanna of the sub-Saharan region. John Frederick Miller described the species in 1779. A member of the order Accipitriformes, which also includes many other diurnal birds of prey such as eagles, hawks, kites, vultures, and harriers, it is placed in its own family, Sagittariidae.

#

The secretarybird is instantly recognizable as a very large bird with an eagle-like body on crane-like legs that give the bird a height of as much as 1.3 m (4 ft 3 in). The sexes are similar in appearance. Adults have a featherless red-orange face and predominantly grey plumage, with a flattened dark crest and black flight feathers and thighs.

#

Breeding can take place at any time of year but tends to be late in the dry season. The nest is built at the top of a thorny tree, and a clutch of one to three eggs is laid. In years with plentiful food all three young can survive to fledging. The secretarybird hunts and catches prey on the ground, often stomping on victims to kill them. Insects and small vertebrates make up its diet.

#

During flight, two elongated central feathers of the tail extend beyond the feet, and the neck stretches out like a stork.[27] The plumage of the crown, upperparts, and lesser and median wing coverts is blue-grey, and the underparts and underwing coverts are lighter grey to grey-white. The crest is made up of long black feathers arising from the nape. The scapulars, primary and secondary flight feathers, rump and thighs are black, while the uppertail coverts are white, though barred with black in some individuals.[24] The tail is wedge-shaped with white tipping, marbled grey and black colouring at the base, and two broad black bands, one at the base and the other at the end

#

The secretarybird is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa and is generally non-migratory, though it may be locally nomadic as it follows rainfall and the resulting abundance of prey.[27] Its range extends from Senegal to Somalia and south to Western Cape, South Africa.[24]
The species is also found at a variety of elevations, from the coastal plains to the highlands. The secretarybird prefers open grasslands, savannas and shrubland (Karoo) rather than forests and dense shrubbery that may impede its cursorial existence.[27] More specifically, it prefers areas with grass under 0.5 m (1 ft 8 in) high and avoids those with grass over 1 m (3 ft 3 in) high. It is rarer in grasslands in northern parts of its range that otherwise appear similar to areas in southern Africa where it is abundant,

#

Secretarybirds are not generally gregarious aside from pairs and their offspring. They usually roost in trees of the genus Acacia or Balanites, or even introduced pine trees in South Africa.[24] They set off 1–2 hours after dawn, generally after spending some time preening.[27] Mated pairs roost together but may forage separately, though often remaining in sight of one another. They pace around at a speed of 2.5–3 km/h (1.6–1.9 mph), taking 120 steps per minute on average.[24] After spending much of the day on the ground, secretarybirds return at dus

#

Secretarybirds rarely encounter other predators, except in the case of tawny eagles, which will steal their kills. Eagles mainly steal larger prey and will attack secretarybirds both singly or in pairs. Secretarybird pairs are sometimes successful in driving the eagles away and may even knock them down and pin them to the ground

#

As a population, the secretarybird is mainly threatened by loss of habitat due to fragmentation by roads and development and overgrazing of grasslands by livestock.[61][62] Some adaptation to altered areas has been recorded but the trend is for decline

First Animal species of the day (333) :
yellow tube sponge / Aplysina fistularis

#

Aplysina fistularis (A. fistularis), also known as the yellow tube sponge or yellow sponge , [1] is a species of sea sponge in the order Verongiida.[2] Aplysina fistularis is a golden or orange-brown color with a conulose surface. The animal is abundant in the Caribbean, where it is commonly found in reefs of open water areas

#

This sponge was first described by the Prussian zoologist Peter Simon Pallas in 1766.

#

Aplysina fistularis consists of one or more yellow tube-like structures that arise from a closed base and are sessile. The sponge has wide oscula and thin walls with ridged surfaces.[3] Each tube is rarely over 30 centimetres (12 in) in clear water but can reach 50 centimetres (20 in) in turbid-zone reefs. Unlike the related species Aplysina insularis, A. fistularis does not develop rope-like projections around its tubes, although it may show some branching tendrils.[4] A. fistularis does not have a silicate skeletal structure like most sponges, and was used as a bath sponge before the invention of synthetic sponges

#

Aplysina fistularis can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Asexual reproduction usually occurs only if a piece of the body is broken off. Newly formed sponges require a hard surface to attach to and grow on. If a reef is heavily disturbed, such as being covered by algae or sediment, A. fistularis may struggle to establish itself and grow.

#

In The SpongeBob Musical, the popular animated character SpongeBob SquarePants is revealed to be an Aplysina fistularis

Hey! This might be a weird thing to ask, but I'm a trying really hard to find an old Half-Life 2 mod that one of the developers made like, in 2011. Specifically Bryan Phillips. It's a mod that replaces the HL2 Antlion Guard with an allosaurus. I saw the rule not to DM or @ developers so I reached out to the person it says to reach out to with inquiries but got no response, so I'm just posting this in the server proper; does anyone have this old mod? It would genuinely mean a lot if someone could get me like, the original files.

Again, I know it seems odd, but the only upload I can find is one on the Garry's Mod workshop and that's just Some Guy packaging it into a standalone mod that doesn't work. Here's a link to the archive.org page for it's upload on the now-defunct garrysmods dot org, which might have also been a reupload for all I know.
https://web.archive.org/web/20210304023904/https://garrysmods.org/download/5466/allosaurus-npcragdoll

Any help would be appreciated.

First Animal species of the day (334) :
Malaysian fire snail (Platymma tweediei)

#

Platymma tweediei, often called the (Malaysian) fire snail, is the largest land snail in Peninsular Malaysia, living exclusively in the mountainous forests there.[1] It is the only species in the genus Platymma

#

It is characterized by its black shell and orange to bright red foot.

#

Although not officially endangered, the species is threatened by a combination of habitat loss and poachers; the vivid colours makes this species attractive to keep as a pet

#

However, the care for this animal is incredibly difficult, due to this species' very specific environmental needs.

#

P. tweediei has been identified living in tropical Montane forest areas with altitudes in excess of 1,000 meters. Originally, P. tweediei was found in the Cameron Highlands area of Pahang,[3] but has since been found near the Temengor Forest Reserve and the Pergau River in Kelantan.[4] To date, it cannot be ascertained whether they exist in isolation or their habitat covers the mountainous areas of the northern Peninsula in general.

#

and she still got mollywhopped 🔥

#

remember when giga was "the joker"

#

HA

#

ha

drowsy egret
#

if the creature was twice ur size

#

and twice ur strength

neat basalt
#

and if i was over 30 years old

drowsy egret
#

she really got done dirty in every movie

neat basalt
#

and fighting "the joker"

#

still cant get over that

#

never will

drowsy egret
neat basalt
#

colin try not to be insane challenge

drowsy egret
#

but she still does age anyways

#

we dont know how long it was expanded

#

but we know it was expanded when they were cloning her

neat basalt
#

unfortunate

#

put her in the ground already

drowsy egret
#

because the jurassic park didnt wanna get another rex after 30 years

neat basalt
#

bring back spinosaurus 🔥

drowsy egret
#

as it was super expensive to clone her already

drowsy egret
shell rapids
drowsy egret
#

and be used in a more horror sense

neat basalt
drowsy egret
#

because thats what Jurassic park is about

neat basalt
#

universal try not to milk a franchise challenge

drowsy egret
#

actually make it scary for once

#

hopefully the next movie isnt the same old same old

neat basalt
#

jurassic park was a metaphor for capitalism going unchecked actually

shell rapids
#

Make a good movie challenge: impossible

neat basalt
#

and i like how they have lost the plot

#

completely

drowsy egret
#

hopefully it goes back to its roots

#

rexy shouldnt be a hero

neat basalt
#

of being a metaphor for capitalism yes i agree

drowsy egret
#

she should be a animal not a hero

shell rapids
#

The novels used horror elements

Still about unchecked capitalism

drowsy egret
#

one is just scarier

#

and more brutal

#

if only universal had the balls to show a scene of babies being killed by compies

neat basalt
drowsy egret
#

like the novels did

drowsy egret
#

jurassic world did still have the point

#

that if u play god

neat basalt
#

jurassic park continues to be the only good movie in the franchise shinji_anguish

drowsy egret
#

u will have consequences

#

with indom wrecking everything

neat basalt
#

didnt they play god again

#

in the next movie

shell rapids
#

The indom sucked hookey

neat basalt
#

by saving dinosaurs from the one thing that could have probably fixed humanity's issue of playing god

drowsy egret
#

and about not playing god thing

neat basalt
#

"we cant play god...."

"ok well we can play god again by taking these animals off the island"

drowsy egret
#

i do like that humans are forced to live with humans now

#

they can do so much with that

#

the sighting thing was super cool

#

for advertisement

drowsy egret
#

u arent really playing god when u rescue animals

#

u are just saving them

#

and it was really cruel to even let them die in the first place

#

they are still animals

neat basalt
#

animals that wouldnt be alive if not for you (royal you), from a natural distaster that would have honestly fixed humanity's past errors

drowsy egret
#

humans learnt to live with dinosaurs

#

and dinosaurs just live like animals

#

which also

drowsy egret
#

causes alot of cool stories they can tell

#

and be more horror focused

shell rapids
#

Thats, a whole other philosophical/moral debate, a little beyond the scope of the isle discord off topic

drowsy egret
#

they are just controlled in sanctuaries

neat basalt
#

i dont think the JP world has forgotten san diego

drowsy egret
#

and some in the wild

drowsy egret
shell rapids
#

Remind me
Can't the jw dinos still swap sexes and reproduce like in JP?

neat basalt
#

after several people died
