when amramms ever come out tho its Jover for anyone without them lets be honest

dense field

idk if you've seen the new Fox3 comparion videos but if you do, you'll see that R27ER even destroys fox3 missiles in velocity

#

that thing is not fair and will never be lmao

hazy gate
#

Yeah but ammaram missiles will prob be able to lock and launch way before they ever launch

#

oh you were referring to fox 3s but still,

#

I think amramms will be in eventually

dense field
#

ehhh
R27ER is basically Fox3 that you have to hold the lock on

lost lock? just lock again, it wont lose the target thanks to datalink
rear aspect shot? no problem, just like a fox3

dense field
hazy gate
#

like a 15 second timer or something to get a relock before it self explodes

#

still bad performance as always tho

#

its literally a dogfight radar missile

#

capability wise

dense field
#

kind of
that 15 seconds it doesnt explode like it did back then but you still have like 2-3 seconds before you lock again or else it wont track

whereas R27ER have a minute

#

you launch one, lose the lock, it'll do its thing for a minute lmfao

#

relock and it tracks

hazy gate
#

Oh yeah ik the ER retrack better overall by alot

#

just before that change aim-7ms were absolute garbage

dense field
#

still garbage compared but less of a garbage
its not that its bad, its just that the other one is too powerful

But ya 2" isn't that bad on busy roads especially if it fell slowly.
Iirc they had alot of icy weather which made the roads dangerously slick b/c they didn't have enough plows to put salt down in time

Sedans are no longer practical TI_Succ

#

Sedans are declining due to

  • customer preferences to SUV

  • Bad / Terrible roads and potholes

  • passengers are less safe in an accident compared to SUV

  • And lastly climate change 🥵🔥
Due to floods and snow storms that push the lighter sedans while SUVs stay still

Are Impalas pretty good? I'm sedan shopping too right now and I've been looking at Impalas, Accords, Civics, LaCrosses, Camry's and Corollas...

#

I heard Ford Fusion is good but...it's Ford so

hazy gate
#

Only sedan I'd ever get imo is a impala or malibu, they have great balance of horse power, fuel economy and looks great inside and out if taken care of

cedar crescent
#

I heard bad things about Malibus and their engines, but I'm not an engine nerd so idk much about engines

#

I just heard they have some engine issues

hazy gate
#

If were talking years, I'd go no newer then 2013 personally

#

I hate newer cars

#

also the engine problems are prob those newer cars

#

like 2017-19 and up

#

My last malibu was a 2006 and I loved it, lil speedy thing, never had to fill gas alot and had a lot of room like trunk space

#

Probably looking for a 2012 or 13 next

hazy gate
#

Maybe if in future it got a turbo installed

#

need at least 6 of those bad boys

#

I like having horse power for things like pulling out on a turning section, much safer with powerful engine for reliability when needing speed, for accidents and much more

#

Even for something as simple as needing to outrun weather or something, pretty sure ive heard stories of people that had relatively powerful cars and just barely outran a tornado lol

hazy gate

def know that

modest isle
cedar crescent
#

Is it just because they're more spacious?

hazy gate
#

Main reason tho im telling you, is marketing, its how car companies market, they want to sell SUVs so they have been puhsing them for eyars now

full patrol
#

SUV are better at handling a broad range of road conditions

cedar crescent

Ohhh okay

If people didnt buy into everyhting about cars before buying most people would still have sedans

full patrol

But if you know how to drive in varying conditions its not like you'll be better or worse off in a sudan

hazy gate
modest isle
hazy gate
#

sadans be light as h

cedar crescent
#

I don't really have a reason for an SUV right now, I don't need the space, I don't need 4WD because we don't get as much snow/ice as we used to

#

I don't need it being sat higher because I don't really drive on dirt roads, or we don't get crazy floods

full patrol
#

Sudans do slightly worse in snow if it's slick. Being lighter gives them slightly less traction. But when you hit black ice it doesn't matter of your car weighs 1000lbs or 10000lbs no traction is no traction TI_LUL

hazy gate
#

I'd only recommend a SUV for a family, then sadan for couples and such

#

imo

hazy gate
#

I just know sedans and coups are lightest

cedar crescent
#

I've only had one close call with an accident and ice but I recovered from it really well. I was on the highway and my car was being pulled towards the median (is that what the middle is called? With the grass)

#

And then I was able to pull myself back over onto the road

First Device species of the day (???) :
Nintendo’s GameBoy Advance SP

#

The Game Boy Advance SP[a] (GBA SP), released in Japan on February 14, 2003,[8] is a sixth-generation handheld game console developed, released, and marketed by Nintendo that served as an upgraded version of the original Game Boy Advance. The "SP" in the name stands for "Special".[9] It is the penultimate console in the Game Boy Advance product line before the Game Boy Micro, which was released in September 2005.

#

2005, Nintendo released an improved version of the Game Boy Advance SP in North America, featuring a brighter backlit screen instead of the previous version's frontlit screen. This GBA SP was Nintendo's first internationally-released handheld system to feature an integrated backlight. (However, there had already been a backlit system years earlier with the Japan-only Game Boy Light, which was essentially a Game Boy Pocket with an electroluminescent backlit display.) The AGS-101 was never officially released in Japan, however, as the frontlit AGS-001 models were still available on the market until the end of productio

#

ill be planting like 60 more trees next weekend

wheat birch

wheat birch

Can I put a bug in your ear so to speak? Do you know about keystone species? :3c

yep

wheat birch
#

Sugar maples may or may not be a keystone species where you live. Not sure. (I'm assuming you're American)

spice gyro
#

yeah, they certainly are, and theyve been replaced in many areas by norway maples

wheat birch
#

I'm sooo hyped because I recently learned of the American Wild Plum (prunus americana) which is a keystone species in my ecoregion

spice gyro
wheat birch
#

I'm planning on planting 3. I have a tiny yard but it seems like they stay fairly small and have non-invasive roots so they can be planted fairly close to a house

#

So I was going to make a little American Plum hedge against my house

spice gyro
#

mhm, they seem to grow a little more upright as well

wheat birch
#

And I'm super super stoked about it. Legit losing sleep over this damn tree

#

I got 2 ordered from my local native nursery. I am just waiting for someone to have my 3rd ready, which I am okay if it comes from a different native nursery. More biodiversity that way, right? XD

spice gyro
#

yep, true

wheat birch
#

And they apparently smell amazing

spice gyro

also if you want them to produce, fruit trees tend to like more genetic diversity to do so

wheat birch

I imagine them blooming in the spring, and me opening my windows and smelling them

#

Look at this baby ❤️

#

Even these little spindly ones are gorgeous

spice gyro
#

yeah they look really nice. in the summer their foliage has a sort of silvery look to them as weel from what ive seen

wheat birch
#

I need to figure out what I want to plant underneathe them

#

Right now it's just gonna be grass/weeds Lol

spice gyro
#

you could try ferns once theyre filled in a bit

wheat birch
#

Perhaps. Might still have too much light. I have a native fern on the shady side of my house. These guys will be getting quite a bit of sun though, and it can get to 104F here

spice gyro
#

Ah yeah then it may not work

#

Sounds like a great spot for a salvia depending on where you are

wheat birch
#

I'm in the midwest

spice gyro
#

Then you could probably find a good one, though I’m not sure how native they are

wheat birch
#

Hmm

#

Do you ever read anything from Doug Tallamy?

spice gyro
#

Nope

wheat birch

He is developing a concept of a "Homegrown National Park", in which if we encourage enough people to plant native plants in their yards and get rid of some of their lawn, we would effectively be making habitat the size of a Huge national park

I used to live down in Texas though so that may be why

wheat birch

spice gyro
#

Good to know

wheat birch
#

I also have golden alexander blooming right now

#

St John’s wort might be another more shade tolerant one to consider

#

These are my general backyard plans

spice gyro

wheat birch

Adding some Joe Pye Weed 😄

spice gyro

#

Also, those sedges are cool

#

I love me some good lush sedges

wheat birch
#

Yeah I have 3 eastern bluestars planted

#

Yeah LOTS of carex blanda in my schematic

#

I am still working on planting out all of my side oats gramas

#

I planted I think about... 9 last year?

#

I bought 4 or 5 more the other day

spice gyro
#

Nice

#

Grasses and sedges bring a whole new depth to gardens

wheat birch
#

this is my front yard

spice gyro
#

No lawn looks like?

wheat birch
#

Yeah I got rid of it. There is some lawn (a pretty thin strip) on the left side of my house that leads to the backyard though

spice gyro
#

Nice. Lawns are pretty meh for water usage and such, but great for walking on

wheat birch
#

On the left is where I am going to make my little orchard/thicket whathave you of American Plums

spice gyro
#

Very nice

wheat birch
#

Yeah so I had someone help me design the garden for me. A native landscaper with a local ecologist

#

And I told them I wanted to turn my lawn basically into large pathways

#

Hence the design in the backyard

spice gyro
#

It’s very nice, I love having yards that are just giant gardens

wheat birch
#

These garden beds are massive and I am still finding I have plenty of lawn. I have enough room for muliple picnic blankets if I wanted to

spice gyro
#

Ooh that’s nice

#

Another shade tolerant ground cover/shrub you could try is coral berry

#

I think it should be hardy through most of the Midwest

wheat birch
#

This is my coral honey suckle. It's native and I adore it so much

#

😄

#

Right now I think birds are nesting inside of it

spice gyro
#

Ooh I love that

wheat birch
#

This is Solomon's Seal :3c

spice gyro
#

That’s a fun one, I’ve seen it a lot more recently

wheat birch
#

Yeah the big bumble bees and carpenter bees love it

#

I love this picture I took the other day. The Bee on the right has pollen all over their face

I do need to head to class in about 30 min, but I’ll be back a bit more than an hour after that

rancid aspen
#

im heading to sleep soon tho if u have any questions feel free to dm me. other than that lets get started with rhis

heavy temple
#

Class in 4 minutes, I’ll read what I can

rancid aspen
#

first of all, many biologists do not agree with that hypothesis. Ill give you 2 examples, first one here is Dr. Kurt Schwenk (Dr. Fry (and his team) is the author of the paper on "A central role for venom in predation")

#

and mind you mr kevin cites Auffenberg, who was considered to be the leading komodo dragon biologist. he spent 20 years on the island with them, studying them.

#

he speculates that the venom may have other biological functions (mainly digestion) and ill prove him right in a bit. In short, they both claim the evidence for the venom playing a central part in predation is weak, and that the side effects of a bite arent due to venom but due to the sheer size of the wounds. Komodos' dentistry allows them to rip huge chunks of flesh off which is exactly what they do in predation

rancid aspen
# rancid aspen

(prey are mostly killed on sight apart from when they manage to escape)

#

The toxins in the komodo dragon's venom as well as their gland is present in many other varanids. Yet none of them use it in predation nor can they effectively deliver ir durinf a bite which brings me to my next point

#

Komodo dragons dont have grooves, like snakes. So their venom cannot travel through their teeth. Instead it gets diluted not only in their saliva, but also in their prey's bloodstream. making effective delivery... impossible.

#

Another point (which mr kevin talked about( was the fact that it takes a lot of enrrgy to produce venom yet it clearly cant effectively be used in predation

#

so it wouldnt be a good evolutionary trade-off

heavy temple
#

So it’s still a venomous bite, just not overly effective

#

And that’s still two people speculating vs the largest institute of education and research in the world

heavy temple
#

So it’s speculation then

rancid aspen
rancid aspen
#

with very logical reasoning behind it

#

oh also

#

@heavy temple these "big" insitituions tend to be very inconsistent with the scientific community. for example natgeo wild consistently contradicts scientific litterature

#

and almost the only evidence for their venom if I recall

#

was that documentary

#

where a dragon supposedly bit a buffalo once and killed it

#

funnily enough natego wild made that

#

anyway, theres a very logicak explanation for it. Aside from komodo dragons killing water buffalo being incredibly rare, theres a very logical explanation : water buffalos have beeb very recently introduced to komodo island (around 300 yrs ago), and in their natural habitat they frequented vast marshes. In komodo island, the only sources of fresh water are small bodies of stagnant water filled with their own sewage. Which can explain why the bite got infected so badly

#

wait hell, even in the documentary itself we see the water buffalo in extremely dirty water

heavy temple
#

Even if I were to take the credibility of these scientists over the credibility of the Smithsonian institute, they aren’t arguing against the existence of a venomous bite, just saying that the effects are negligible, which I have already conceded

rigid sand
#

pigheadness again 💀💀💀 thats insane anyway just saying "smithsonian said it so its better" isnt very smart and is an appeal to authority, and thats excluding the fact they are using the very reasoning that has gotten debunked. And + they still say the dragon has harmful bacteria when auffenberg himself has proven otherwise, he has even given the names of the bacteria found in the dragon's mouth and they werent dissimilar to the bacteria found in other animals' mouth. completely taking away their credibility
