Giant barrel sponge

The giant barrel sponge (Xestospongia muta) is the largest species of sponge found growing on Caribbean coral reefs. It is common at depths greater than 10 metres (33 ft) down to 120 metres (390 ft) and can reach a diameter of 1.8 metres (6 feet). The giant barrel sponge is a filter feeder. Water is continually pumped into the sides of the sponge, through the sponge body, and out of the osculum at the top of the sponge. Small pores in the sponge body are connected to channels lined by collar cells, each with a flagellum, and the beating of these flagellae draws water through the channels. Incoming particles, particularly microscopic bacteria and prochlorophytes, are phagocytosed by the collar cells. Sponges like X. muta also absorb dissolved organic compounds directly from the seawater as part of their diet

@rigid sand after trying so many weapons and sucking at em against Alatreon, I beat em with Dual Blades

So they have a special place in me

Even though I rarely play them

I haven't got to alatreon on either file, I think on my first one I stopped at/after ruiner nerg.

So recently I started a 2nd file and picked up gunlance and dual blades instead of sword and shield and bow and WOOOOOOOO I'm blasting thru the game. Made my first high rank mix set for the funlance last night.

I personally disagree but I don't know your build so you may feel that way because you think your damage with sword and shield mode is not that high, but trust me, while your regular swing can go up to 100 pretty easily, other weapons only do slightly higher than that. Unless weapon is big like SA

i also like the "use axe to stagger and sword to finish off" gameplay

when you power the axe it staggers easier and breaks parts like nothing

but be warned its not a weapon that you can yolo with

best example is probably Tigrex

you know how it likes to overwhelm with constant attacks
you just keep dodging with axe's speed and land a cheeky vertical cut between openings

For complexity wise, I think you mean the amount of micro management you have to deal with while playing, Charge Blade is the pinnacle of that

As you wanted to try out, Gunlance may seem like a weapon of same complexity but it's not close.

Every weapon have their "I played this a lot and didn't even know it was possible" moments.

So from Charge Blade and not that, I think you want flexibility too. You want your weapon to be able to adapt into situations, not you trying to adapt with the same thing every time
With that my recommendations are Sword and Shield, Switch Axe, Longsword and Dual Blades

Apart from SnS (except Perfect Rush move) they all require you to meet certain conditions during combat. Not just yolo
Longsword ask you to fill and empty your gauge with plethora of different moves, Dual Blades ask you to fill your demon gauge to get into archdemon mode and Switch Axe is basically 2 weapons that need to be powered up in different manners.

The most basic weapon in this game, technically, must be Greatsword. Even that have tackle, which can be used in different ways
Apart from that, weapon asks you to start thinking instead of being complex itself

Some people find joy in that

In the end, try and see for yourself

I forgot to mention, Insect Glaive also have micro management. You have to gather different Kinsect extracts from different body parts and combine them to increase your damage, stamina and movement speed.
I find it real fun

Make sure to keep textures at the lowest, they use a bit of RAM. Just keep all settings at low. 8gb ram is on the lower end or minimum specs. That's all I can think of causing the issue

Okay so I've been raging a lot with CB cause its hard to dodge stuff etc and I realised. Why dont I just use the shield. So yes, after playing 40 hrs + with Cb I actually started to use the shield. Not only for GP but just basic guarding. I get like minor stam and very small chip dmg but I get a lot more opening and it is easier to guard than time your dodge properly

Guard 5 basically minimize the effects of a hit
