First Animal species of the day (267) :
Luna moth

#

The luna moth (Actias luna), also called the American moon moth, is a Nearctic moth in the family Saturniidae, subfamily Saturniinae, a group commonly named the giant silk moths.
Range

#

The moth has lime-green wings and a white body. Its caterpillars are also green. Its typical wingspan is roughly 114 mm (4.5 in), but wingspans can exceed 178 mm (7.0 in), ranking the species as one of the larger moths in North America.

Across Canada, it has one generation per year, with the winged adults appearing in late May or early June, whereas farther south it will have two or even three generations per year, the first appearance as early as March in southern parts of the United States

#

As defense mechanisms, larvae emit clicks as a warning and can also regurgitate intestinal contents, confirmed as having a deterrent effect on a variety of predators.[3] The elongated tails of the hindwings are thought to confuse the echolocation detection used by predatory bats

A parasitoid fly deliberately introduced to North America as a biological pest control for the invasive species spongy moth (formerly known as gypsy moth) appears to have had a negative impact on luna moths and other native moths.

#

Based on the climate in which they live, Luna moths produce different numbers of generations per year. In Canada and northern regions of the United States they are univoltine, meaning one generation per year. Life stages are approximately 10 days as eggs, 6–7 weeks as larvae, 2–3 weeks as pupae, finishing with one week as winged adults appearing in late May or early June. In the mid-Atlantic states the species is bivoltine, and farther south trivoltine, meaning respectively two and three generations per year. In the central states the first generation appears in April, second in July. Even farther south, first generation appears as early as March, with second and third spaced eight to ten weeks later

#

They spend their entire larva stages eating and eating and eating while they still can because after they hatch from their become ADULTS THEY DONT HAVE MOUTHS ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

Here’s some size charts showing what they’ve planned, but they’ve also said they’re outdated so take it with a grain of salt @silver drum

silver drum
#

I'd say that Mapusaurus shouldn't be quite that big, it's more so 8t than 9t, if they wanted a carcharodontosaur at that size it's unfortunately just Giganoto(although even it is more so 8.5t or so)

cosmic junco
#

I do know they will also include some Permian synapsids like anteosaurus and dimetrodon. Also scutosaurus but that’s not a synapsid

silver drum
#

ah, fair enough

cosmic junco
#

The sizes especially they said

silver drum
#

but is it outdated in terms of the weights or is it outdated in terms of what is meant to be included in the game?

silver drum
#

I don't mind me Mapusaurus, it's a cool animal buuuut... I'm probably least excited about it out of all the giant, derived carcharodontosaurs

#

nevertheless, a really cool roster

#

here's hoping they add Sauro to that

cosmic junco
#

I’m pretty sure the roster is planned to be more conservative than what we have on the isle

silver drum
#

depends on what specimen they use

cosmic junco
#

True either way sauro could be a good in between, I also don’t know if it’d be worth working with considering how fragmentary the species is

silver drum
#

it's actually surprisingly not that fragmentary, the bloody thing has some 200 bones

#

the issue with it is that it's not properly described, not the lack of material

#

it's also difficult to work on because it's radioactive

#

but it has a number of things that differentiate it from Allosaurus proper and a big range of sizes

cosmic junco
silver drum
#

from somewhere around 3-4t up to the largest specimen being estimated at iirc 8.3t

#

and one the size of Acrocanthosaurus somewhere on the way

#

Dakotaraptor which is on the roster is even more of a mess, some of it is apparently a turtle from what I recall, that thing is... a big mystery to use a euphemism

First Animal species of the day (268) :
Crocodile Monitor

#

The crocodile monitor (Varanus salvadorii), also known as the Papuan monitor or Salvadori's monitor, is a species of monitor lizard endemic to New Guinea. It is the largest monitor lizard in New Guinea and is one of the longest lizards, verified at up to 255 cm (100 in). Its tail is exceptionally long, with some specimens having been claimed to exceed the length of the Komodo dragon, however less massive.

#

Crocodile monitors are arboreal lizard with a dark green body marked with bands of yellowish spots. It has a characteristic blunt snout and a very long prehensile tail. It lives among the mangrove swamps and coastal rainforests of the southeastern part of New Guinea, feeding opportunistically on everything from birds and small mammals to eggs, other reptiles, amphibians and carrion. Its large, backwards-curving teeth are better adapted than those of most monitors for seizing fast-moving prey. Like all monitors, it has anatomical features that enable it to breathe more easily when running than other lizards, and is sometimes considered one of the most agile monitor species.

#

Crocodile monitors are threatened by deforestation and poaching, and are protected by CITES. Little is known of its reproduction and development, as it is difficult to breed in captivity. Attempts at captive breeding have been mostly unsuccessful. In New Guinea, the lizard is sometimes hunted and skinned by tribesmen to make drums. It is described as an evil spirit that "climbs trees, walks upright, breathes fire, and kills men", yet the local people maintain that it gives warnings if crocodiles are nearby.

#

The largest of the seven species of monitors found on the island of New Guinea, crocodile monitors occur in both the state Papua New Guinea and the Indonesian region of West Papua. It inhabits the high and low canopies of the lowland rainforests and coastal mangrove swamps, sometimes venturing out of these areas during floods in the rainy seasons. No detailed field investigation data are available for V. salvadorii, so the full extent of its range is unknown.[3][5] Its remote and generally inaccessible habitat is an obstacle to detailed study of this monitor in its natural habitat

#

The crocodile monitor is a highly arboreal lizard. It can hang onto branches with its rear legs, and occasionally use its tail as a prehensile grip. The primary function of the tail, however, is as a counterbalance when leaping from branch to branch.[3] As in some other Varanus species, the tail also may be used for defense, as captive specimens may attempt to lash keepers with their tails.[25] This species occasionally is seen in the pet trade, but has a reputation for aggression and unpredictability.[5] Although they are known to rest and bask in trees, they sleep on the ground or submerged in water

First Animal species of the day (269) :
Gentoo penguin

#

The gentoo penguin (/ˈdʒɛntuː/ JEN-too) (Pygoscelis papua) is a penguin species (or possibly a species complex) in the genus Pygoscelis, most closely related to the Adélie penguin (P. adeliae) and the chinstrap penguin (P. antarcticus). The earliest scientific description was made in 1781 by Johann Reinhold Forster with a type locality in the Falkland Islands. The species calls in a variety of ways, but the most frequently heard is a loud trumpeting, which the bird emits with its head thrown back
Range

#

The gentoo penguin is easily recognised by the wide, white stripe extending like a bonnet across the top of its head and its bright orange-red bill. It has pale whitish-pink, webbed feet and a fairly long tail – the most prominent tail of all penguin species. Chicks have grey backs with white fronts. As the gentoo penguin waddles along on land, its tail sticks out behind, sweeping from side to side, hence the scientific name Pygoscelis, which means "rump-tailed"

#

Gentoo penguins can reach a length of 70 to 90 cm (28 to 35 in),[19][20] making them the third-largest species of penguin after the emperor penguin and the king penguin. Males have a maximum weight around 8.5 kg (19 lb) just before moulting and a minimum weight of about 4.9 kg (11 lb) just before mating. For females, the maximum weight is 8.2 kg (18 lb) just before moulting, but their weight drops to as little as 4.5 kg (9.9 lb) when guarding the chicks in the nest.[21] Birds from the north are on average 700 g (1.5 lb) heavier and 10 cm (3.9 in) longer than the southern birds. Southern gentoo penguins reach 75–80 cm (30–31 in) in length.[22] They are the fastest underwater swimmers of all penguins, reaching speeds up to 36 km/h (22 mph).[23] Gentoos are well adapted to extremely cold and harsh climates.

#

The breeding colonies of gentoo penguins are located on ice-free surfaces. Settlements can be located directly on the shoreline or considerably inland. They prefer shallow coastal areas and often nest between tufts of grass. In South Georgia, for example, breeding colonies are 2 km inland. In colonies farther inland, where the penguins nest in grassy areas, they shift location slightly yearly because the grass becomes trampled over time

#

Gentoos mainly live on crustaceans, such as krill and shrimp,[25] with fish and cephalopods[25] making up only about 15% and 10% of the diet respectively.[25] They are, however, opportunistic feeders and around the Falklands are known to take roughly equal proportions of fish (Patagonotothen sp., Thysanopsetta naresi, Micromesistius australis), squat lobsters (Munida gregaria) and squid (Loligo gahi, Gonatus antarcticus, Moroteuthis ingens). Other prey include Lepidonotothen squamifrons, Channichthys rhinoceratus and octopuses

#

In the sea, leopard seals, sea lions and killer whales are all predators of the gentoo. On land, no predators of full-grown, healthy gentoo penguins exist. Skuas and giant petrels regularly kill many chicks and steal eggs; petrels kill injured and sick adult gentoos. Various other seabirds, such as the kelp gull and snowy sheathbill, also snatch chicks and eggs. Skuas on King George Island have been observed attacking and injuring adult gentoo penguins in apparent territorial disputes.

First Animal species of the day (270) :
Clown killifish

#

The clown killi (Epiplatys annulatus) or banded panchax, is a species of fish in the family Nothobranchiidae, an African rivuline, native to fresh water habitats in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in West Africa.

Range : rivers of these countries

#

Clown Killifish are peaceful and social fish that enjoy swimming in small groups. They are known for their curious and active nature, making them a joy to watch in the aquarium. They are also hardy and can be kept with a variety of other fish species, including tetras, guppies, and rasboras.

#

Instead, aim for a ratio of 1 male for every 2-3 females. A larger group of clown killies allows them to feel more comfortable in their environment and display their natural social behaviors. They are a fun community fish and get along fine with other peaceful fish that aren't big enough to eat them.

#

Size: Can reach seven inches in length. Food: Small crustaceans, mollusks, and worms. Breeding: Spawn in summer and males develop brighter coloration during breeding. Females lay eggs in still, shallow water and have been observed burying the eggs

#

Many killifish can breathe air through their skin quite efficiently, and are tolerant of low-oxygen conditions (hypoxia), which is why they survive quite well in bait buckets when other baitfish (minnows, shad, etc.

We already have "cancer vaccines" though there are different types. Some like hpv vaccine reduce chances of cancers by preventing a disease, while others are an immuno therapy for people who already have cancer.

The hpv vaccine reduces the risk of 6 common cancers caused by hpv. Aka, if you don't get hpv you're less likely to get those 6 cancers it can cause.

One cancer vaccine that's being researched and has recent articles is a pancreatic cancer vaccine. This one is immuno therapy

First Animal species of the day (271) :
Emu bird

#

The emu (/ˈiːmjuː/; Dromaius novaehollandiae) is a species of flightless bird endemic to Australia, where it is the largest native bird. It is the only extant member of the genus Dromaius and the second-tallest living bird after its African ratite relative, the common ostrich. The emu's native ranges cover most of the Australian mainland. The Tasmanian, Kangaroo Island and King Island subspecies became extinct after the European settlement of Australia in 1788.
Range

#

Emus have soft, brown feathers with long necks and legs, and can reach up to 1.9 m (6 ft 3 in) in height. They are robust bipedal runners that can travel great distances, and when necessary can sprint at 48 km/h (30 mph). They are omnivorous and forage on a variety of plants and insects, and can go for weeks without eating. They drink infrequently, but take in copious amounts of fresh water when the opportunity arises.

Breeding takes place in May and June, and fighting among females for a mate is common. Females can mate several times and lay several clutches of eggs in one season. The male does the incubation; during this process he hardly eats or drinks and loses a significant amount of weight. The eggs hatch after around eight weeks, and the young are nurtured by their fathers. They reach full size after around six months, but can remain as a family unit until the next breeding season

#

The emu is the second tallest bird in the world, only being exceeded in height by the ostrich;[32] the largest individuals can reach up to 150 to 190 cm (59 to 75 in) in height. Measured from the bill to the tail, emus range in length from 139 to 164 cm (55 to 65 in), with males averaging 148.5 cm (58.5 in) and females averaging 156.8 cm (61.7 in).[33] Emus are the fourth or fifth heaviest living bird after the two species of ostrich and two larger species of cassowary, weighing slightly more on average than an emperor penguin. Adult emus weigh between 18 and 60 kg (40 and 132 lb), with an average of 31.5 and 37 kg (69 and 82 lb) in males and females, respectively.[33] Females are usually slightly larger than males and are substantially wider across the rump

#

Once common on the east coast of Australia, emus are now uncommon there; by contrast, the development of agriculture and the provision of water for stock in the interior of the continent have increased the range of the emu in arid regions. Emus live in various habitats across Australia both inland and near the coast. They are most common in areas of savannah woodland and sclerophyll forest, and least common in heavily populated districts and arid areas with annual precipitation of less than 600 millimetres (24 in).[30][33] Emus predominantly travel in pairs, and while they can form large flocks, this is an atypical social behaviour that arises from the common need to move towards a new food source.[33] Emus have been shown to travel long distances to reach abundant feeding areas. In Western Australia, emu movements follow a distinct seasonal pattern – north in summer and south in winter. On the east coast their wanderings seem to be more random and do not appear to follow a set pattern.

#

Emus are diurnal birds and spend their day foraging, preening their plumage with their beak, dust bathing and resting. They are generally gregarious birds apart from the breeding season, and while some forage, others remain vigilant to their mutual benefit.[44] They are able to swim when necessary, although they rarely do so unless the area is flooded or they need to cross a river.

#

Emus forage in a diurnal pattern and eat a variety of native and introduced plant species. The diet depends on seasonal availability with such plants as Acacia, Casuarina and grasses being favoured.[30] They also eat insects and other arthropods, including grasshoppers and crickets, beetles, cockroaches, ladybirds, bogong and cotton-boll moth larvae, ants, spiders and millipedes.[30][49] This provides a large part of their protein requirements

Second Animal species of the day (272) :
two spotted ladybug

#

Adalia bipunctata, the two-spot ladybird, two-spotted ladybug or two-spotted lady beetle, is a carnivorous[1] beetle of the family Coccinellidae that is found throughout the holarctic region. It is very common in western and central Europe. It is also native to North America but it has heavily declined in many states and provinces. It is commonly introduced and imported as a biological control agent.

#

The two-spotted ladybird is highly variable in many parts of its native range. The most familiar form, form typica with two black spots on a red base, is common throughout. A melanistic form that is black with four or six red spots is uncommon, but not rare, while the truly melanistic form purpurea is exceedingly rare. In North America the species shows the most variation, with several forms that do not occur elsewhere including a spotless form, a four-banded form, a nine to twelve spotted form, and a "cross-hatched" form. In addition, there are intermediate forms such as form annulata, but they occur rarely

#

Two-spotted lady beetles feed on aphids and other small insects.[1][4][5] However, the sterile soldiers within colonies of aphids such as the gall-forming Pemphigus spyrothecae, can attempt to protect the aphid colony by fighting this species.

#

The two-spotted lady beetle's life cycle starts with eggs that are usually laid in clutches.[1][5] The larva hatches from the egg by biting a hole in it. The larva looks very different from an adult; it has an elongated, grey, soft body with six legs but no wings. They are cannibalistic. A larva goes through four larval stages: by eating it grows and at some point it sheds its old skin and appears in a new one in which it can grow more. The last larval stage is approximately the size of an adult beetle. Once it has eaten enough, the larva attaches itself to a substrate and moults into a pupa. Inside the pupa, the adult develops. Finally the adult ecloses from the pupa.

The difference of Caseoh and a black hole:

#

The difference of the mass of a black hole and CaseOh depends on the type of black hole. There are three main types of black holes: stellar-mass, supermassive, and intermediate-mass1. The mass of a stellar-mass black hole can range from a few to several dozen times the mass of the Sun, while the mass of a supermassive black hole can range from millions to billions of times the mass of the Sun1. The mass of an intermediate-mass black hole is somewhere in between, but these are rare and hard to detect1.
CaseOh’s mass is approximately 110 kg or 242 lbs2, which is much smaller than any known black hole. To calculate the difference of the mass of a black hole and CaseOh, we can use the following formula:
Δ
m

m
B
H

m
C
O
Δm=m
BH

−m
CO

where
Δ
m
Δm is the mass difference,
m
B
H
m
BH

is the mass of the black hole, and
m
C
O
m
CO

is the mass of CaseOh. For example, if we take the mass of the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy, Sagittarius A*, which is 4 million times the mass of the Sun1, we get:

First Animal species of the day (273) :
Gouldian finch

#

The Gouldian finch (Chloebia gouldiae), also known as the Gould's finch or the rainbow finch, is a colourful passerine bird that is native to Australia.
Range : northern Australia

#

Both sexes are brightly coloured with black, green, yellow, and red markings. The females tend to be less brightly colored. One major difference between the sexes is that the male's chest is purple, while the female's is a lighter mauve.[8]

Gouldian finches are about 125–140 mm long.[9] Gouldian finches' heads may be red, black, or yellow. Formerly considered three different kinds of finches, it is now known that these are colour variants of one species that exist in the wild.[10] Selective breeding has also developed mutations (blue, yellow and silver instead of a green back) in both body and breast colour.

#

Outside the breeding season, Gouldian finches often join mixed flocks consisting of long-tailed finches and masked finches. Flocks can consist of up to 1,000–2,000 individuals.[19][20] During the breeding season, they are normally found on rough scree slopes where vegetation is sparse. In the dry season, they are much more nomadic and will move to wherever their food and water can be found

#

Like other finches, the Gouldian finch is a seed eater. They eat up to 30% of their bodyweight each day.[21] During the breeding season, Gouldian finches mainly feed on ripe and half-ripe grass seeds of sorghum. During the dry season, they mainly forage on the ground for seeds. During the wet season, spinifex grass seed (Triodia sp.) is an important part of their diet. So far Gouldians have been recorded eating six different species of grass seed, but researchers have yet to find evidence of insect consumption.

#

Gouldian finches will usually make their nests in tree hollows. They usually breed in the early part of the dry season, when there is plenty of food available.[23] When a male is courting a female, he bobs about and ruffles his feathers in an attempt to show off his bright colors. He will expand his chest and fluff out the feathers on his forehead. After mating, the female will lay a clutch of about 4–8 eggs. Both parents help brood the eggs during the daytime, and it is the female who stays on the eggs at night. When the eggs hatch, both parents care for the young. Gouldian finches leave the nest after between 19 and 25 days and are completely independent at 40 days old

Second Animal species of the day (274) :
Yangtze giant softshell turtle

#

The Yangtze giant softshell turtle (Rafetus swinhoei), also known commonly as the Red River giant softshell turtle, the Shanghai softshell turtle, the speckled softshell turtle, and Swinhoe's softshell turtle, is an extremely rare species of turtle in the family Trionychidae. It may be the largest living freshwater turtle in the world. The species is native to eastern and southern China and northern Vietnam. With a known population of only two individuals,[2] and with the last known females dying out, this species is considered functionally extinct.

#

The Yangtze giant softshell turtle is noted for its deep head with a pig-like snout and dorsally placed eyes. This critically endangered species holds the title of being the largest freshwater turtle in the world.[5] Although hard to compare due to the extremely small number of remaining specimens, its average and maximum sizes seem to exceed other large freshwater turtles such as alligator snapping turtles and related giant softshells such as other Rafetus and Pelochelys species

#

The Yangtze giant softshell turtle has been known to inhabit the Yangtze River and Lake Tai, situated on the border of Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces, in eastern China, and Gejiu, Yuanyang, Jianshui and Honghe in Yunnan Province in southern China.

#

Despite its massive size and distinctive appearance, this species is extremely secretive and only rarely comes up to breathe, largely preferring to stay submerged deep underwater. This may be part of the reason why it is so difficult to positively identify and confirm wild sightings of this species

#

The Yangtze giant softshell turtle is on the brink of extinction due to habitat loss, legal overtrade, lack of legislation to control these wildlife trading, trafficking, the human food preferences,[32] hunting for subsistence and local consumption, and the use of the carapace and bones in alternative medicine. Skulls are often kept as trophies.[12] A recent[when?] plan to build hydropower cascade of 12 dams on the Red River in China may flood all of its habitat and change the ecosystem of lower Vietnam.

Hey guys so not long ago we figured out that my game keeps crashing due to my pc being a potato and now I dont know who to ask if the one I found is good or not? So uhm I thought maybe anyone around here knows something more about pcs and could tell me if that upgraded potato is better than my potato lol

First Animal species of the day (275) :
Longear sunfish

#

The longear sunfish (Lepomis megalotis) is a freshwater fish in the sunfish family, Centrarchidae, of order Perciformes. It is native to the area of eastern North America stretching from the Great Lakes down to northeastern Mexico.[3] The longear sunfish reaches a maximum recorded length of about 24 cm (9.4 in), with a maximum recorded weight of 790 g (1.74 lb).[4] Most do not live beyond six years.[4] The longear sunfish is quite colorful, with an olive to rusty-brown back, bright orange belly and blue-green bars on the sides of its head. A unique characteristic is their elongated operculum flap, giving an appearance of a "long ear".

#

The species prefers densely vegetated, shallow waters in lakes, ponds, and sluggish streams. Its diet can include insects, aquatic invertebrates, and small fish. Avoiding strong currents, longear sunfish are usually present in small to moderate flowing streams, rivers, and reservoirs.[5] The genus Lepomis has a well-characterized mating behavior where parental care is done by the male. The male makes and defends the nest, and fans the eggs to remove silt and other debris until the larvae hatch. Some longear females produce 4,000 eggs.[6] They spawn in groups but do not form large colonies.

#

Longear sunfish are better at getting food in moving waters than still waters; this may explain why they are more abundant in streams than lakes. For the most part, longear sunfish are active during the day and inactive at night.[6] There are very few conservation acts currently being performed in order to maintain the distribution and abundance of this species

#

Longear sunfish are found in North America, primarily in the Mississippi and Great Lakes regions.[8] Longear sunfish are mostly found in freshwater areas west of the Appalachian Mountains.[9] Some Lepomis populations are located as far north and west as southern Quebec and Minnesota. The species has also been spotted in places as far south and west as central Mexico and New Mexico. The native territory of the longear sunfish is exclusive to the North American Continent. It is found primarily in the Mississippi and Great Lakes watersheds

#

In popular culture :
The isle

#

Longear sunfish, like additional members of the family Centrarchidae, are freshwater fish. They prefer streams with a firm clay bottom or gravel with clear waters and they typically stay nearby aquatic vegetation.[5] Although more abundant near the sources of streams, sunfish can be found in water sources of all sizes and are also found in lakes. Longear sunfish usually reside in shallower, warmer headwaters of streams with a steady flow. They spend most of their time near aquatic vegetation, or other forms of cover such as roots, brush piles, and undercut banks. This allows for them to hide from potential predators. Sunfish species are especially intolerant to turbid waters.[10] Human-induced changes to stream ecosystems could potentially disrupt the sunfish distribution. Destruction of aquatic vegetation from human runoff could destroy aquatic plants that are essential for the protection and cover of this species against predators. Chemical runoff into large rivers could also disturb the pH of the longear's natural ecosystem
