#

You should be xD

#

So so bad

dense field
#

Ah right
GS makes sense cause you can't really stay still

distant nymph
#

Raging Brachy was a walk in the park in comparision, for me at least xD

#

But I had problems with remembering Rajangs move set in general

dense field
#

Raging Beachy got me a bit mad with its last phase

distant nymph
#

It's great though xD

#

I really like that fight

dense field
#

I wasn't prepared the first time

#

No Fireproof mantle

#

With a friggin Fire element weapon

distant nymph
#

Aw xD

dense field
#

Because I was expecting it to explode not burn!

distant nymph
#

Understandable, yeah xD

dense field
#

But real talk
The most hated of the roster for me is Alatreon

#

I've heard people hating it
I don't know their reasoning but it just got annoying for me

distant nymph
#

hmm >.< True, yeah

#

The being forced to use Elemental weapons is awful ):

dense field
#

The fact that you have to deal some predetermined damage value is just not good gameplay

And when you don't, you get a one shot

distant nymph
distant nymph
#

cries in GS

dense field
distant nymph
#

I didn't even have a single elemental GS build before that fight

dense field
#

I discovered Kjarr's weapons with that fight

#

Lmao I didn't know they dealt that much elemental

#

I put a pause on Alatreon until I get that health regen augmentation

#

Imma combine it with Safi's set

distant nymph
#

I've been using the Frostfang Barioth Ice GS
It deals okay-much raw + tons of elemental

dense field
#

And we'll see who's the elder one

distant nymph
dense field
distant nymph
#

yeah ):

dense field
#

So I swapped to Water

#

Since I was annoyed by the entire thing, I started to look at Alatreon with hate

distant nymph
#

That's understandable ):

dense field
#

And I noticed how it just copies Velkhana's animations

Anyone in here with experience on bioactive vivariums?

full patrol
sullen merlin
# full patrol I have a bioactive terrarium for my pet isopods and have planted fishtanks. So h...

I was looking for someone who could help me with the materialas i should use for a nice substrate that can hold humidity well. Someone i saw had a mix of playsand, peat moss and organic topsoil but the brand of topsoil most ppl use is rather bad imo. Ive seen a lot of bad reviews on it, cuz it had like fertilizers and glass etc in the bags sometimes. Most of the brands are american too and i cant get them in europe i think. Maybe eco earth could work as an alternative for the organic topsoil?

full patrol
#

I don't recommend eco earth. It's ok to mix in but not good to replace the soil. Have you tried looking at organic soils? Those usually are better quality and alot of those brands don't have added chemical fertilizers

sullen merlin
# full patrol I don't recommend eco earth. It's ok to mix in but not good to replace the soil....

Ye i heard a lot of similar opinions about eco earth, but also a lot of ppl that say its fine so idk. I will avoid it regardless tho. And yes i have looked in to organic soils but i don really find what i need. Even if i search for this i get results of soils with fertilizers etc in them. Also the fact that i live in europe decreases the brands that are available. Most companies dont ship it to here for some reason.

#

Well that was a long time ago last time i checked for the shipping maybe its changed now

#

Someone in another discord said he used this

ocean bay
#

Ye I have bioactive cresties tanks. I use a brand of organic top soil called Timberline, it's a red and white bag that you can ea-- yes that one

#

Not sure if they can send it to Europe though

sullen merlin
#

And u ve never found fertilzer remains or stuff like that in it?

full patrol
#

I'll need to find that one snake discovery video where they set up a big bioactive in their zoo. I think for their green tree pythons (?)

ocean bay
#

Nope

#

Ive used it for years

#

It's got mulches in it too so that the isopods can also snack on those a bit

sullen merlin
#

When i google it i either cant find it or the one site it mentions cant be opened

ocean bay
#

Looks like this

#

Oh, or discord can mess up my image

#

Lemme see if I can find an alternative

You can also use Reptisoil as well

ocean bay
#

No it's soil

sullen merlin
ocean bay
#

If you want to you can mix more in but the soil is bioactive ready, just up to you

sullen merlin
#

I guess it depends on how itll hold burrows if i add stuff or not

spice gyro
#

with that timberline stuff, would you mix in sand and moss?

ocean bay
#

I've put charcoal in my soil before to help aeration

sullen merlin
ocean bay
#

You can yeah

#

My bearded dragons tank has that soil with sand mixed in

spice gyro
#

im looking at potentally getting a green anole and wanted a bioactive setup, was wondering some stuff on the soil side

ocean bay
#

Are you in the US?

spice gyro
#

like would i need to put a drainage layer underneath the soil?

spice gyro
sullen merlin
spice gyro
#

misting daily

ocean bay
#

Yeah I'd recommend doing so, so you don't have stagnant water in the dirt

sullen merlin
#

I would do a drainage ye

spice gyro
#

would just like some gravel work?

ocean bay
#

You don't NEED to get like.. the hydroballs people use for drainage. Just get some river pebbles from the aquarium section and use that, works the same

spice gyro
#

ah good to know

ocean bay
#

It'll just be heavier so be careful

#

As for mesh, I just do two layers

spice gyro
#

I was thinking about using some eco earth mixed with the top soil, would I need to add sand to that as well

ocean bay
#

I'd add a lil sand yeah

#

Use play sand though

sullen merlin
#

What brand of play sand do you use?

spice gyro
#

alright good to know

#

Lemme go find it

Crushed lava rock is good because it has alot of surface area for beneficial bacteria

sullen merlin

It is rather cheap though, I'm sure you can go to your local hardware store and ask them if they have play sand

I feel that

sullen merlin
#

FInding some reptile related stuff in europe is such a pain its unbelievable

ocean bay
#

Yeah I've heard it can be 😦

#

Hopefully that changes soon

sullen merlin
#

For enclosures ur only options are zoomed, exoterra or custom basicly

ocean bay
#

Oof

#

We got a bunch of new brands over here recently

sullen merlin
#

so for bioactive stuff u would need like a taller rim between the door and the floor, a lot of these dont have that so u almost have to go for a custom one

ocean bay
#

I have a 10 gal I kinda used for a baby crestie to make it's home bioactive, I took a piece of acrylic that fit in between the glass and siliconed it in

#

Didn't look super pretty but it held all the dirt and was functional

sullen merlin
#

I recently got lucky, my friends dad bred dart frogs and had a lot of custom enclosures, i could buy them for really cheap with the misters and everything for really cheap

#

Like i bought a terrarium from exoterra for like 800 bucks with the lighting included, but for 200 buck i got 4 custom terrariums that were basicly the same size

#

from the dudes dad i know

spice gyro
#

for gravel, what would be the best size? like pea gravel is common and cheap, was wondering if i could use that

full patrol
#

You definitely want a higher lip in the front if you have a front open enclosure. 4-6inches is usually what people recommend for most reptiles

sullen merlin
spice gyro
#

nope, a large bag of gravel is like $5

#

clay balls are around 10 at least

spice gyro
#

Anyone got some tips for buying/researching isopods?

full patrol
spice gyro
#

Alright, I’ll take a look at those

full patrol
#

Probably not pea gravel, that's the smaller gravel commonly used in fishtanks. I really recommend crushed lava rock or clay balls/cylinders for bioactives

#

@winter merlin can i explain it to u

lethal scaffold
#

why did wendys have a discord

#

also for bioactive thingymajigs this coco fiber seems to do pretty well and holds humidity great

coco fiber is fine mixed in but you don't want it to be the main part of your substrate if you're going for bioactive. Real dirt is always the best kind of dirt

First Animal species of the day (263) :
Bearded seal

#

The bearded seal (Erignathus barbatus), also called the square flipper seal, is a medium-sized pinniped that is found in and near to the Arctic Ocean.[3] It gets its generic name from two Greek words (eri and gnathos) that refer to its heavy jaw. The other part of its Linnaean name means bearded and refers to its most characteristic feature, the conspicuous and very abundant whiskers. When dry, these whiskers curl very elegantly,[3] giving the bearded seal a "raffish" look
Range :

#

Distinguishing features of this earless seal include square fore flippers and thick bristles on its muzzle. Adults are greyish-brown in colour, darker on the back; rarely with a few faint spots on the back or dark spots on the sides. Occasionally the face and neck are reddish brown. Bearded seal pups are born with a greyish-brown natal fur with scattered patches of white on the back and head. The bearded seal is unique in the subfamily Phocinae in having two pairs of teats, a feature it shares with monk seals.

Bearded seals reach about 2.1 to 2.7 m (6.9 to 8.9 ft) in nose-to-tail length and from 200 to 430 kg (441 to 948 lb) in weight.[5] The female seal is larger than the male,

#

Bearded seals, along with ringed seals, are a major food source for polar bears.[6] They are also an important food source for the Inuit of the Arctic coast. The Inuit language name for the seal is ugjuk[7][8] (plural: ugjuit) or oogrook or oogruk. The Inuit preferred the ringed seal for food and light; the meat would be eaten and the blubber burnt in the kudlik (stone lamp). The skin of the bearded seal is tougher than regular seal and was used to make shoes, whips, dog sled Bearded seals are extant in Arctic and subarctic regions. In the Pacific region, they extend from the Chukchi Sea in the Arctic, south into the Bering Sea[11] where they span from Bristol Bay on the Alaskan coast to the Sea of Okhotsk on the Russian coast,[12] up to but not including the northern coast of Japan.[12] In the Arctic Ocean, they are found along the northern coasts of Russia, Norway, Canada, and Alaska,[12] including the Norwegian Archipelago of Svalbard[13] and Canadian Arctic Archipelago.[14] In the Atlantic, Bearded seals are found along the northern coast of Iceland, the east and west coasts of Greenland and the Canadian mainland as far south as Labrador

#

The sounds of the bearded seal usually consist of a long oscillating trill lasting for a minute or more followed by a short, deep moan. This "song" is often repeated frequently.[24] The number of call types within a population can vary geographically, with four types found in Svalbard and eleven in the Western Canadian Arctic. The most frequent sounds are trills, moans, and sweeps. A sweep can be compared to a short trill.[25]

Bearded seals produce distinct trills from late March to late June, with a decline in rhythmicity in late May and June. This timeline coincides with their breeding and pupping season, which is from April to May. The repetitive and transmittable nature of bearded seal trills leads researchers to believe that they are utilized for communication, likely during courtship and breeding.[26] Males use these sounds to establish mating territories and communicate their fitness,[25] but it is likely that females produce these sounds as well.

#

Bearded seals give birth in the spring. In the Canadian Arctic, seal pupping occurs in May.[9] In Svalbard, bearded seals reach sexual maturity at 5 or 6 years of age.[18] Further south, in Alaska, most pups are born in late April.[clarification needed] Pups are born on small drifting ice floes in shallow waters, usually weighing around 30–40 kg (66–88 lb). They enter the water only hours after they are born, and quickly become proficient divers. Mothers care for the pups for 18–24 days, during which time the pups grow at an average rate of 3.3 kg (7.3 lb) per day. During this time, pups consume an average of 8 L (1.8 imp gal; 2.1 US gal) of milk a day. By the time they are weaned, the pups have grown to about 100 kg (220 lb).

First Animal species of the day (264) :
African dwarf crocodile

#

The dwarf crocodile (Osteolaemus tetraspis), also known as the African dwarf crocodile, broad-snouted crocodile (a name more often used for the Asian mugger crocodile) or bony crocodile,[5] is an African crocodile that is also the smallest extant (living) species of crocodile.
Range

#

Dwarf crocodiles attain a medium adult length of 1.5 m (4.9 ft), though the maximum recorded length for this species is 1.9 m (6.2 ft). Adult specimens typically weigh between 18 and 32 kg (40 and 71 lb), with the largest females weighing up to 40 kg (88 lb) and the largest males weighing 80 kg (180 lb).[6][7] This makes it the smallest living crocodile species, although the Cuvier's dwarf caiman (Paleosuchus palpebrosus), a member of the family Alligatoridae, is smaller at up to about 1.7 m (5.6 ft).[7][8] If the Congo dwarf crocodile (O. osborni) is recognized as a valid species, it would be both the smallest crocodile and the smallest crocodilian since it does not surpass 1.2 m (3.9 ft).[9] Adults are all dark above and on their sides, while the underside is yellowish with black patches.[10] Some individuals living in the caves of Abanda, Gabon, displayed orange patches, apparently due to alkaline bat guano that erodes the skin of the crocodile.[11] Juveniles have a lighter brown banding on body and tails and yellow patterns on the head.

#

Osteolaemus has a blunt short snout, as long as it is wide, similar to that of a Cuvier's dwarf caiman, probably a result of occupying a similar ecological niche. The dentition consists of four premaxillary teeth, 12 to 13 on the maxilla, and 14 to 15 on the dentary bone.

#

African Dwarf crocodiles
range across tropical regions of Sub-Saharan West Africa and Central Africa. Such a distribution greatly overlaps with that of the slender-snouted crocodile, encompassing countries as far west as Senegal, reaching Uganda in the east, and ranging as southerly as Angola.[2][9] The last confirmed record from Uganda was in the 1940s, but whether the species, which is easily overlooked, still survives there is unclear (it was always marginal in this country, only occurring in the far southwest)

#

Dwarf crocodiles live from lowlands to mid-altitude in streams, small rivers, swamps, pools and mangrove, but generally avoid main sections of large rivers.[9][12] Most of their range is within forested regions, but it may extend into more open regions where the streams or river are well-shaded. Unlike most crocodiles, dwarf crocodiles only rarely bask in the sun.[9] During the night they may move some distance from water on land.[9] Reports exist of dwarf crocodiles in isolated pools in the savannah.[13] Dwarf crocodiles living long-term in caves are known from western Gabon,[14] which stand out as an isolated genetic group.

#

Dwarf crocodiles are generalist predators and have been recorded feeding on a wide range of small animals such as fish, crabs, frogs, gastropods, insects, lizards, water birds, bats and shrews.[9][14][12] In a study in the Democratic Republic of the Congo the primary food item was fish,[9] and in a study in Nigeria the primary food items were gastropods and crabs.[16] In the Congo there is a level of seasonality in its diet, changing from fish in the wet season to crustaceans in the dry season, when fish are less available.[10] Plant material has also been found in the stomach of dwarf crocodiles, but it is suspected that this is ingested by accident.[12] They can survive for relatively long periods without food.[7] During the dry season, dwarf crocodiles often retreat to deep holes

First Animal species of the day (265) :
Eel-tailed catfish

#

The eel-tailed catfish, Tandanus tandanus, is a species of catfish (order Siluriformes) of the family Plotosidae.[2] This fish is also known as dewfish, freshwater catfish and tandan
Range

#

This species is a freshwater fish native to the Murray-Darling river system of eastern Australia.[2] The scientific name for eel-tailed catfish comes from a name for the fish in an unidentified Aboriginal Australian language - Tandan - which Major Thomas Livingston Mitchell recorded on his 1832 expedition

#

Eel-tailed catfish commonly grow to about 50.0 centimetres (19.7 in) and weigh about 1.8 kilograms (4.0 lb).[5] Fish of this species may grow up to about 90.0 cm (35.4 in) and weigh up to 6.0 kg (13.2 lb).[4] Eel-tailed catfish may live up to about 8 years

#

Eel-tailed catfish have large head with thick and fleshy lips and tubular nostrils.[4] The skin is tough and smooth. Body coloration in adults vary from olive-green to brown, black or purplish on their backs and white on the underside.[4]

A downturned mouth with fleshy lips surrounded by a number of barbels assist them with feeding. They are a solid, almost cylindrical, elongate fish, with the posterior half of their body tapering into a pointed eel-like tail. A continuous fin margin surrounds this tapering posterior half of the body. Their eyes are small.

#

The eel-tail catfish has 4 pairs of barbels surrounding the mouth, and sharp serrated dorsal- and pectoral-fin spines which are venomous and can cause a very painful wound.

#

The eel-tailed catfish inhabits slow moving streams, lakes and ponds with fringing vegetation. It swims close to the sand or gravel bottoms. This species is more abundant in lakes than in flowing water.[4] Though they are usually solitary, juveniles may form aggregations.[4] The eel-tailed catfish is found in most freshwater habitats of the Murray-Darling river system except for the upland, sub-alpine and alpine headwaters of southern tributaries. It is also present in speciated but undescribed forms in several east coast systems in northern New South Wales due to natural river capture events

First Animal species of the day (266) :
Common fruit fly

#

Drosophila melanogaster is a species of fly (an insect of the order Diptera) in the family Drosophilidae. The species is often referred to as the fruit fly or lesser fruit fly, or less commonly the "vinegar fly", "pomace fly",[a][4] or "banana fly".[5] In the wild, D. melanogaster are attracted to rotting fruit and fermenting beverages, and are often found in orchards,
Range

#

Wild type fruit flies are yellow-brown, with brick-red eyes and transverse black rings across the abdomen. The black portions of the abdomen are the inspiration for the species name (melanogaster = "black-bellied"). The brick-red color of the eyes of the wild type fly are due to two pigments:[14] xanthommatin, which is brown and is derived from tryptophan, and drosopterins, which are red and are derived from guanosine triphosphate.[14] They exhibit sexual dimorphism; females are about 2.5 mm (0.10 in) long; males are slightly smaller with darker backs. Males are easily distinguished from females based on colour differences, with a distinct black patch at the abdomen, less noticeable in recently emerged flies, and the sex combs (a row of dark bristles on the tarsus of the first leg). Furthermore, males have a cluster of spiky hairs (claspers) surrounding the reproducing parts used to attach to the female during mating. Extensive images are found at FlyBase

#

Drosophila melanogaster can be distinguished from related species by the following combination of features: gena ~1/10 diameter of eye at greatest vertical height; wing hyaline and with costal index 2.4; male protarsus with a single row of ~12 setae forming a sex comb; male epandrial posterior lobe small and nearly triangular; female abdominal tergite 6 with dark band running to its ventral margin; female oviscapt small, pale, without dorsodistal depression and with 12-13 peg-like outer ovisensilla

warped oxide
modest isle
#

As with most insects, aggressive behaviors between male flies commonly occur in the presence of courting a female and when competing for resources. Such behaviors often involve raising wings and legs towards the opponent and attacking with the whole body.[127] Thus, it often causes wing damage, which reduces their fitness by removing their ability to fly and mate

I don't know hunterpie o:
But that's fair!

dense field

slow hazel
#

Its a mod, you can literally track everything but I only use it to track time and damage

#

But you can set it up to show monster health/part health, build ups etc.

dense field
#

yeah sometimes you think you're not doing enough damage until you pinch them once and they roll on the floor

slow hazel
#

Yes

dense field
#

thats how i felt with SA at first

#

you need to use the axe mode to stagger and combos really put you in place

slow hazel
#

This is the build I'm going for rn, its anti raging brachy. I might do a bit different decos tho

dense field
#

so you have to do hit and runs
you think you wont get anywhere but you actually do

dense field

you can have evade window etc instead

Oh

#

dense field
dense field

basically increases the charged time of the items

slow hazel
#

Capacity and prolonger could be a hella combo

dense field
#

so longer shield/axe/sword as charged

dense field
slow hazel
#

Or element too?

dense field
#

all of them iirc

distant nymph
slow hazel
#

I need to ask

dense field
#

lemme check if it does

slow hazel
#

Is crit draw only for the one attack after the draw?

distant nymph
#

Yeah!
It might have some weird interactions with some weapons though

#

I think the longsword dodge attack also triggers it

#

Greatsword mount attack also benefits from it, since it's a single attack

dense field
#

there is also a certain gear which belong to someone i wont spoil, that basically power up your weapons as they're sheathed

#

some poeple combo that up with critical draw

#

really niche though

distant nymph
#

I use that xD

#

Greatsword's just a weapon that can use that really easily

#

depending on weakness point and so I hit with ~1000-1200 on Draw attacks

#

on a full charge

slow hazel
#

I mean Crit draw is meant for heavy hitters. So I assume GS/Hammer is the best for it

dense field
#

yeah you kinda have to sheathe your weapon with those

#

as they're heavy to walk around

slow hazel
#

Yeah

#

Ngl I would pay if there would be a build that helps with speed walking

distant nymph
#

speed walking on greatsword would be weird I think ):
But I get it's probably weird to get used to having to sheath your weapon a lot

slow hazel
#

Thats one of the things I really and truly hate about this game

#

The constant sheathing of weapon

#

It really breaks the flow of the game. I know its a mechanic and some stuffs like decos and buffs are built on it but man, its cancer

dense field
#

also i checked

#

the Artillery only work with Impact Phials

#

i did 27 damage with the phials after an AED

#

then with artillery it went up to 34

slow hazel
#

But no change with elements

#

But I guess in same cases elements are stronger than impact right? Cause if the said monster is weak for the said element, its gotta be stronger than impact

#

Or make no sense having element cbs at all

dense field
#

SAED phials went from 75 to 96 damage per phial

#

i prefer elemental because i have couple of elemental CB's

#

and i use the optimal one against each monster to do max damage

#

if you havent done Kulve yet, that how i did it

#

you get Kjarr weapons from Kulve, by chance
and they're the best elemental ones

#

for the most part

#

i mean check this out, this ice element CB from Kjarr did 197 damage per phial with an SAED in training area

#

impact Safi CB with full upgrades went up to 96 with Artillery 3

#

but impact also have stunning capabilities etc

slow hazel
#

Yeah

#

Sick af

dense field

slow hazel

Oh

#

Wait I'm confused

#

There is no investigation for safi and kulve?

distant nymph
#

No Hmm Except I'm being confused right now, what do you mean with investigation ?

slow hazel
#

You know after killing a monstah you can usually get investigations with gold/silver rewards

#

So basically you can farm it

distant nymph
#

oh that! no, there's nothing like that for them

#

They work a bit different from normal quests.
