One of my favourite content creators of War Thunder is diagnosed with cancer
Is this how we all die? This thing's taking more than its worth.

Well unfortunately its very probable that atleast once in your lifetime you develop some kind of cancer.

at least his' a cancer that is known to be curable

First Animal species of the day (223) :
Cougar / Puma
The cougar (Puma concolor) (/ˈkuːɡər/, KOO-gər), also known as the puma, mountain lion, catamount or panther, is a large cat native to the Americas, second only in size to the stockier jaguar. They are not technically grouped with the "true" big cats, as they are slightly smaller than other big cats, and they lack the vocal physiology to roar (unlike lions, tigers, leopards and jaguars). Its range spans from the Canadian Provinces of the Yukon, British Columbia and Alberta, the Rocky Mountains and areas to the Western United States. Their range extends further south through Mexico, where they are found in nearly every state, to the Amazon Rainforest and the southern Andes Mountains in Patagonia. The puma (as it is called in Spanish) inhabits every mainland country in Central and South America, making it the most widely distributed large, wild, terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the most widespread on planet Earth. It is an adaptable, generalist species, occurring in most American habitat types. It prefers habitats with dense underbrush and rocky areas for stalking but also lives in open areas.
Range
The cougar is largely solitary by nature and considered both nocturnal and crepuscular, although daytime sightings do occur. It is an ambush predator that pursues a wide variety of prey. Primary food sources are ungulates, particularly deer, but it also hunts smaller prey, such as rodents. Cougars are territorial and live at low population densities. Individual home ranges depend on terrain, vegetation and abundance of prey. While large, it is not always the apex predator in its range, yielding prey it has killed to American black bears, grizzly bears and wolf packs. It is reclusive and mostly avoids people. Fatal attacks on humans are rare but increased in North America as more people entered cougar habitat and built farms.
The head of the cougar is round, and the ears are erect. Its powerful forequarters, neck, and jaw serve to grasp and hold large prey. It has four retractile claws on its hind paws and five on its forepaws, of which one is a dewclaw. The larger front feet and claws are adaptations for clutching prey
Cougars are slender and agile members of the Felidae. They are the fourth largest cat species worldwide;[25] adults stand about 60 to 90 cm (24 to 35 in) tall at the shoulders.[26] Adult males are around 2.4 m (7 ft 10 in) long from nose to tail tip, and females average 2.05 m (6 ft 9 in), with overall ranges between 1.50 to 2.75 m (4 ft 11 in to 9 ft 0 in) nose to tail suggested for the species in general.[27][28] Of this length, the tail typically accounts for 63 to 95 cm (25 to 37 in).[29] Males generally weigh 53 to 72 kg (117 to 159 lb). Females typically weigh between 34 and 48 kg (75 and 106 lb).[29][30] Cougar size is smallest close to the equator and larger towards the poles.[31] The largest recorded cougar, shot in 1901, weighed 105.2 kg (232 lb); claims of 125.2 kg (276 lb) and 118 kg (260 lb) have been reported, though they were probably exaggerated.[32] Male cougars in North America average 62 kg (137 lb), while the average female in the same region averages about 42 kg (93 lb).[33] On average, adult male cougars in British Columbia weigh 56.7 kg (125 lb) and adult females 45.4 kg (100 lb), though several male cougars in British Columbia weighed between 86.4 and 95.5 kg (190 and 211 lb)
Bruh
The cougar has the largest range of any wild land animal in the Americas, spanning 110 degrees of latitude from the Yukon Territory in Canada to the southern Andes in Chile.[1] The species was extirpated from eastern North America, aside from Florida, but they may be recolonizing their former range and isolated populations have been documented east of their contemporary ranges in both the Midwestern US and Canada.
Cougars are important keystone species in Western Hemisphere ecosystems, linking numerous different species at many trophic levels. In a comprehensive literature review of more than 160 studies on cougar ecology, ecological interactions with 485 other species in cougar-inhabited ecosystems have been shown to involve different areas of interaction, ranging from the use of other species as food sources and prey, fear effects on potential prey, effects from carcass remains left behind, to competitive effects on other predator species in shared habitat. The most common research topic in the literature used here was the diet of the cougar and the regulation of its prey
Like almost all cats, the cougar is a mostly solitary animal. Only mothers and kittens live in groups, with adults meeting rarely. While generally loners, cougars will reciprocally share kills with one another and seem to organize themselves into small communities defined by the territories of dominant males. Cats within these areas socialize more frequently with each other than with outsiders
Females reach sexual maturity at the age of 18 months to three years and are in estrus for about eight days of a 23-day cycle; the gestation period is approximately 91 days.[30] Both adult males and females may mate with multiple partners and a female's litter can have multiple paternities.[49] Copulation is brief but frequent. Chronic stress can result in low reproductive rates in captivity as well as in the field
Gestation is 82–103 days long.[49] Only females are involved in parenting. Litter size is between one and six cubs; typically two. Caves and other alcoves that offer protection are used as litter dens. Born blind, cubs are completely dependent on their mother at first, and begin to be weaned at around three months of age. As they grow, they begin to go out on forays with their mother, first visiting kill sites, and after six months beginning to hunt small prey on their own.[76][49] Kitten survival rates are just over one per litter

Okay nerds. I wanna replace my GPU. I’ve heard the 40 series isn’t worth investing in, but 30 series aren’t any cheaper (from what I’ve seen) So I’m at a loss.
Suggestions are welcome
Depends.
I got a 3070 Ti, but I'm thinking for going to 4070 in the near future. Mostly because of the VRAM and DLSS/Frame generation.
But I agree that Nvidia is overpriced and the fact that they put 8GB Vram on a 3070 ti is absolutely embarassing.
Yeah it’s pretty wild to me. At that price point I’d expect so much more out of performance and yet
Which is what makes it so difficult to get into next gen GPUs. I want to invest in something that’s going to perform well and have support for as long as I can squeeze out of it. And I mean, anything is going to be an upgrade over my 1650 at this point. But I have a hard time justifying purchasing anything in the 40 series when it’s not that much of an improvement (or not at all) over 30s

So I just got a new PC today, and it runs The Isle very very well, but I wanted to be able to play Fortnite with Lumen and stuff which requires running it in dx12. But whenever I switch to dx12 on Fortnite, it gives me an error on launch saying something about not being able to allocate enough memeory, even tho my previous PC could run Fortnite with dx12 (but it weas very laggy) and had the same amount of memory as the new one
I can also copy paste the error message if you'd like to see
Is it out of video memory error?
could you send the error message
I would like to know if this is in reference to either RAM or VRAM
Yeah it's that
what GPU do you have
RTX 4050
ah, 6GB of RAM
Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, also here's a YouTube video
Trying to play or start Fortnite, but getting the "Out of Video Memory" error? (This can happen with any game and this video works for them too) - This is how to fix it! If your hardware meets the requirements for the game and you're still getting it then it's likely Windows getting in the way, and that's easy to fix.
Timestamps:
0:00 - Intro/E...
I have 16GB of ram
you have not a lot of VRAM tbf
especially for Dx12
which runs more video memory faster- in which you'd find running Dx11, the minimum Vram is 2GB
also, what resolution do you run at?
I would only recommend playing @ 1080p with that amount of VRAM
Sorry if this is kind of a dumb question, but what would 1080p be in terms of [number x number] in game settings?
for an RTX 4050
you can likely play at medium - high @ 1080p
turn off Dx12, don't run Lumen
don't run Nanite
Damn, so I just can't play with Lumen and stuff then?
That was my goal tbh, I can still open Fortnite nad play and stuff in dx11, I just wanted to know if I could use Lumen andf stuff
aye
Unfortunate
you can try
but your GPU won't properly run due to VRAM restrictions
Damn that sucks
Yeah my old PC was a GTX 1060 I'm pretty sure and it must've had more VRAM
i know this is a bit late now
but I wouldn't went for a 3060 Ti
Question tho, how come I can run The Isle with raytracing and stuff no problem then?
the mysteries of The Isle optimsation
Huh
but, I would also try for your sake if you want, look into any problem solving
as it can always vary, especially with CPU differences
Eh, I'm alrerady burnt out on trying to fix Fortnite lol
But thanks, this is at least a satisfying answer

@dense field if I may ask, I'm rly interested in how you see Erdoğan, since you're directly affected. From other turks I heard he isn't particular a good option but rn he's at least the best available
without dwelling too much into politics, the guy is a plague imho against the secular Republic of Turkey
he believes in an islamic state is the true way to rule a country and he is a representitive of the main ideology that founder of our republic, aka Ataturk, fought against.
bro choked the economical stability of the country for years, refusing to increase interest rates because it was not the "Muslim way"
he aint even a collage graduate
so no, he is not the better option, he will never be, all the ones are saying it are on board with the attrocities he caused
we have this guy, who cant even speak English in interviews and then we had Ataturk, who spoke French fluently and 5 other languages
Economy is the most real felt effect his actions caused but there also is no right of speech, you talk bad about him you go to jail, you cant protest, you cant have press conferences against the government
it truly is 1984
Fun!
okay, very interesting! thanks for the insights 🫡
That's exactly ppl see him in germany (mostly). But since you cant always believe 100% what you hear from other places around the world in the news, its always nice to get some first hand information

First Animal species of the day (224) :
Black garden ant
The black garden ant (Lasius niger), also known as the common black ant, is a formicine ant, the type species of the subgenus Lasius, which is found across Europe and in some parts of North America, South America, Asia and Australasia. The European species was split into two species; L. niger, which are found in open areas; and L. platythorax, which is found in forest habitats.[1] It is monogynous, meaning colonies contain a single queen
Possible range
Lasius niger colonies normally range from 4,000 to 7,000 workers, but can reach 40,000 in rare cases. A Lasius niger queen can live for up to 29 years[2] the longest recorded lifespan for any eusocial insect.[3] Lasius niger queens in the early stages of founding can have two to three other queens in the nest. They will tolerate each other until the first workers come, then it is most likely they will fight until one queen remains. Under laboratory conditions, workers can live at least 4 years
Ants mate on the wing, so "flying ants" are alates (reproductive individuals), which include males and gynes (virgin queens). The mating (or nuptial) flights of Lasius niger usually occur around June to September throughout the species' range; in North America flights usually occur during the autumn, whereas in Europe they generally take place during the hot summer months of July and August. Flights can contain thousands of winged males and females
Lasius niger is host to a number of temporary social parasites of the Lasius mixtus group including Lasius mixtus and Lasius umbratus.
Although worker ants live for a couple of months, queens typically survive for almost 15 years[citation needed] but there have been instances of queens living up to 29 years,[2] the longest recorded lifespan for any eusocial insect.[3] Understanding the basis for the greater longevity of queens has a bearing on the general unsolved problem in biology of the causes of aging. In the study of long-lived queen ants it was found that queens have a higher expression than genetically identical workers of genes involved in processing damaged macromolecules.[2] Genes with higher expression included those that are necessary for repair of DNA damage (see DNA damage theory of aging) and genes involved in proteasome-mediated, ubiquitin-dependent, protein catabolic processes.

Second Animal species of the day (225) :
Brown anole
The brown anole (Anolis sagrei), also known commonly as the Cuban brown anole, or De la Sagra's anole,[2] is a species of lizard in the family Dactyloidae. The species is native to Cuba and the Bahamas. It has been widely introduced elsewhere, via the importation and exportation of plants where the anole would lay eggs in the soil of the pots, and is now found in Florida and as far north in the United States as southern Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Hawaii, and Southern California.[3][4][5] It has also been introduced to other Caribbean islands, Mexico, and Taiwan.
Range
The brown anole is normally a light brown color with darker brown to black markings on its back, and several tan to light color lines on its sides. Like other anoles, it can change color, in this case a darker brown to black. Its dewlap ranges from yellow to orange-red
Brown anoles are typically 5.0 to 8.5 inches long.[15] The males can grow as large as their male Carolina anole counterparts, around 17.8–20.3 cm (7.0–8.0 in) long, with some individuals topping 22.9 cm (9.0 in). The females are also around the size of female Carolina anoles, which ranges from 7.6–15 cm (3.0–5.9 in). The male brown anole's head is smaller than that of the male Carolina anole.
The brown anole's tail has a ridge that travels all the way up to behind the head, a feature that the Carolina anole lacks.[16][17] Female anolis lizards exhibit heritable polymorphism in their dorsal patterning. A study in Gainesville, Florida reported that one-third of A. sagrei females displayed a male-like chevron dorsal pattern, while other females had a striped dorsal pattern with continuous variation
The native range of the brown anole extends over much of the Caribbean, including Jamaica, Cuba, the Cayman Islands, and other countries.[19] Currently, they are considered an invasive species in parts of Florida in the United States, including the Florida Keys, Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County as of 1985.[19][20] Today, their range has extended as far as Georgia and to parts of Mexico.[21] It is believed that these lizards were unintentionally brought to the area in cargo shipments for the Caribbean, as well as an intentional release of approximately 100 individuals in 1941.[19] The species is also established in parts of Honduras
Male and female
The brown anole tends to live on the ground, avoiding trees and preferring to live in smaller plants and shrubs and is found in both urban and suburban areas.[21] When the weather is warm, the brown anole can be found basking.[21] When it is cold, they prefer sheltered areas.[21] Brown anoles are less arboreal than the green anoles which are frequently found living in trees, on the ground, or in low vegetation
Brown anoles feed on small arthropods such as crickets, moths, ants, grasshoppers, cockroaches, mealworms, beetles, flies, earwigs, butterflies, spiders, waxworms, amphipods, and isopods.[31][32] Brown anoles also feed on other types of invertebrates such as earthworms and snails.[31] They may also eat other lizards, such as skinks, geckos, and the Carolina anole, lizard eggs and hatchlings (including members of their species), and their own molted skin and detached tails.[32] If near water, they eat aquatic arthropods or small fish – nearly any prey that will fit in their mouths.[16][17] Occasionally, individuals will also consume figs and plant material; it might be interpreted as a hydration mechanism or accidental ingestion
In a given habitat, female brown anoles reproduce in the warmer parts of the year.[21] The brood size of a single female brown anole is one egg, which it lays in damp environments.[21] The female lays its eggs roughly 2 weeks apart from each other,[21] resulting in a total of 15 to 18 eggs in a single breeding season.[11] The breeding season of a female extends slightly longer than that of a male, as the female is capable of storing sperm for a short time.[11] When a juvenile anole is born, usually in June, it is completely independent from its parents.[11] Sexual maturation of both males and females occurs within a year of hatching, so an individual can participate in the mating season following its birth
An individual egg will hatch four weeks after it was laid. From the moment they are born, the anole is completely independent from its parents.[24] As such, the brown anole displays no reproductive division of labor past the mating event and displays no cooperative brood care. However, female brown anoles have been observed digging holes and positioning eggs within these holes after oviposition. This is thought to allow for additional parental influence on phenotype and offspring survival. The selection of a site to nest by a female and how she lays her eggs within this site is performed in an effort to maximize survival of her offspring.[36] A female will lay one egg at a time and can lay a new egg each week of the reproductive season

Oh just incase, I didn't mean as a suggestion for your animal of the day thing. I meant as what the fish in the pic could potentially be
These guys are hybrids of two other species :
The blood parrot cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus × Vieja melanurus), or parrot cichlid, is a hybrid species of fish in the family Cichlidae. The fish was first bred in Taiwan around 1986. Blood parrots should not be confused with other parrot cichlids or salt water parrotfish (family Scaridae). Natural colors of the fish are red, yellow, and g...
buy fish game if you like fish
i bought a snake
venomous fiend
omg what is it i can't tell.
We know most hybrids are infertile = cant make kids
Thats not the case for these two species sadly and it effected one of them
Endler vs Guppy
cheaper than a real aquarium 😂
i used to have endlers
11 month childrens python
Endlers are extinct the wild and fish keepers are breeding the two species
It makes hybrids that are fertile‼️
Those hybrids are basically guppies
Which means endlers might go extinct because of interbreeding
Guppy : left
Endler : right
flowerhorns are infertile i think, the big bump on their heads are also called a "kok" 😂 people have competitions for the biggest kok
LMAO
i think they are pretty ugly tbh but i like nano fish
one of my (mostly pure) black bar endlers
they were in the process of being bred for a longer swordtail and a higher dorsal fin
Theses guys are becoming rare
Their native environment is destroyed
And fish keepers keep breeding them with guppies if that continues endlers will be completely extinct due to guppies genes are stronger than endlers
yep i am aware
Here are some of my guppies
The tuxedo guy is named “Venom”
oooh that tuxedo guppy
i mostly had endlers and hybrids, not really any guppy guppies except a couple japanese blues swordtails, which are typically smaller than most other guppy strains. i only kept males so they didn't breed
Yep if you dont wanna deal with breeding problems you get the males for colors
But in my tank i have mostly females and few males
Like this cute boy my older brother named him “John silver”

what kind of suggestion is this. It's one of the most absurd and balance breaking ideas I've ever seen come from there lmfao. Rex fanboys sure are something else
Adorable baby! He a little fat tho, got the sausage booty xD
Oml the irony in the name

How hard is it to take care of a tank of guppies
Not too hard I assume
Just clean the tank and feed em and ur good probably
just depends on your schedule
and how lazy/active you are with your pets
Fish, I find, require your attention (for food) a lot more than your average Dog or cat
if you have no experience with Fish, always refer to your local pet store
Guppies aren't too hard ya. But they can be hit or miss health wise since they're very inbred at alot of places.
- They need a heater between 74-78°F and live plants are a bonus since they like to munch algae and stuff.
- They do much better in hard water than soft water though they can survive in soft water.
- Also best to keep a single gender tank unless you want to be overrun by guppy babies.
I literally feed mine 1x a day in the morning. But I only have 1 since the others died via jumping out of the tank (idk how they got through that 1/4" gap) and just bad genetics
He probably munches the daphnia and algae if he gets hungry tho
Here's a reliable info sheet
https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/guppy-care-guide
I like pond loaches
and bala sharks for aquarium pets
very easy to care for and are pretty hardy
both continuously grow though and will eventually keep needing bigger tanks if well cared for
You had me there for a second. I was like "do you have any idea how big those get!!?!"
Literally will need at tank thats minimum 200gal for a few adult balas
Yeah I had a 20g tank for my first starter and had 1 bala baby and 1 pond loach and they both got huge

First Animal species of the day (226) :
red devil cichlid
Amphilophus labiatus is a large cichlid fish endemic to Lake Managua and Lake Nicaragua in Central America. It is also known by the common name red devil cichlid, which it shares with another closely related cichlid, A. citrinellus.
Range :
Colouration in wild specimens is variable and while most specimens are grey to greyish green some pink, red or white specimens do occur. Black pigmentation in spots or bands is also common. Some specimens have enlarged lips, though this condition is thought to be related to specific food choice preferences in their natural habitat as this trait disappears in captivity. Like most cichlids, A. labiatus has advanced brood care. The species forms monogamous pairs which spawn on flattened rocks or logs.
In the aquarium trade A. labiatus is often sold under the trade name of red devil, a common name which they share with Amphilophus citrinellus, which is more correctly known as the Midas Cichlid owing to its yellow coloration. This occasionally causes confusion between customers and companies that sell both A. labiatus and Amphilophus citrinellus.
Aquarists who keep cichlids regard red devils as aggressive fish. This aggressive behavior combined with their razor sharp teeth and powerful jaws means cohabitants should be chosen carefully and the fish should be kept in a large aquarium. Red devils may be so aggressive that they ram into the glass to get at invaders, break heaters and other aquarium equipment, and will sometimes bite their owners.
👄🐟
In Indonesia this species was introduced as aquarium ornamental fish. This fish became a big problem in Lake Toba, threatening other species there. However, it was released to the wild and has become an invasive species, especially in lakes of Java, Sulawesi and Papua.

Pretty sure that one is extinct since the 60s or something
In the Quaternary period (modern day period started 2.5 million years
Ok i will do it also heard about it before
Last confirmed sighting was 1952
Also the first animal Christopher Columbus saw in the Americas
And thought they were mermaids
U sure
I do not trust this kind of story
That’s where the legends of mermaids originally came from
Most folklore story’s came from sightings of perfectly normal animals
With not so normal people blowing it out of the water
Yep 👍🏼 Even other mythical creatures
Like the sounds of screaming fox at the night people used to think its demons or someone screaming for help in the woods
Or Mothman , Mothman was just an owl
Flatwoods Monster
Barn Owl screeching while sitting over a bush
Bad depiction of flatwoods monster
I think the red eyes due to the phone’s flash
The whole robot thing was worked in afterwards to capitalize of the hype
I see
It was a Flashlight and only for about 1-3 seconds

So definitely very detailed sighting
Fr 💀
Each person’s account varies from the other
Also the story behind the sighting is very funny
„Alien indoctrinated kids mistake meteor for ufo landing and worst Mother of the year decides to trespass and endanger the children and then capitalizes of the hype“
Trey the explainer made this cool video about it

Another cryptozoology video! Today we examine a rather strange and famous cryptid from West Virginia, the Flatwoods Monster. We will go over everything from owls to aliens to giant salamanders to psychology. Hope you enjoy!

Oh god
I forgot the last part of the video @modest isle
Should rather not finish that

CK is a bit fun, find Civ more fun tho
Stellaris is actually really fun
If
U like those kind of games where's it's alot of micromanaging
And the mod scene is really good
Theres a mod that adds(amongst man other things) a warship created from an entire solar system
That sounds epic
It's really fun
Only 4k strategy I play so I can't really compare to anything else
Only warning is that longer larger runs can lag tf out of ur computer depending on the type of empires on the map
I think I have a tendency to speedrun Minecraft, random thought
This is because egalitarian empires have some upgrades that cause the amount of different aliens species in an empire to explode
And it's alot to handle
Simplest amd preferred solution is mass genocide
Did you know destroying a solar systems sun would wipe out all planets in the system, just a little prank I just came up with
Is it easier or harder than micromanaging the German-Soviet front in HoI4?
Thats how I determine how intense the micromanaging is
never played hoi
my advice, is dedicate each planet to a specific resource
makes things easier to keep track of
I will get a new graphics card christmas
Trying to get as much money as possible till then
Then CK3 at around probably easter
and then maybe Stellaris
No
Third Animal species of the day (228) :
Great spotted kiwi
Get intercepted
The great spotted kiwi, great grey kiwi[2] or roroa (Apteryx haastii) is a species of kiwi endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. The great spotted kiwi, as a member of the ratites, is flightless. It is the largest of the kiwi. The rugged topography and harsh climate of the high altitude alpine part of its habitat render it inhospitable to a number of introduced mammalian predators, which include dogs, ferrets, cats, and stoats. Because of this, populations of this species have been less seriously affected by the predations of these invasive species compared to other kiwi. Nonetheless, there has been a 43% decline in population in the past 45 years, due to these predators and habitat destruction. This has led it to be classified as vulnerable.[1] There are less than 16,000 great spotted kiwis in total, almost all in the more mountainous parts of northwest Nelson, the northwest coast, and the Southern Alps. A minority live on island reserves.
Range :
Great spotted kiwis are the largest of the kiwis;[6] the male is 45 cm (18 in) tall, while the female is 50 cm (20 in) tall. Bill length ranges from 9 to 12 cm (3.5–4.7 in),[14] while weight ranges between 1.2 and 2.6 kg (2.6 and 5.7 lb) for males and 1.5 and 3.3 kg (3.3 and 7.3 lb) for females.[2] The body is pear-shaped, while the head and neck is small with a long slender ivory bill.[14][15] The great spotted kiwi, along with the other kiwi species, is the only bird with nostrils at the end of its bill.[16] The eyes are small and do not see well,[17] as it relies mostly on its sense of smell.[18] The legs are short, with three toes per foot.[17] It has a plumage composed of soft, hair-like feathers, which have no aftershafts. The plumage can range from charcoal grey to light brown.[14] They have large vibrissae around the gape, and they have no tail, only a small pygostyle.[2] The common name of this bird comes from black spots on its feathers.[17] They use their powerful legs and claws for defence against predators.
Average lifespan is 30 to 40 years.
Greater spotted kiwis once lived in numerous areas throughout the South Island, but because of predation by invasive species, the remaining kiwi are now restricted to three localities.[20] These kiwi live in higher altitude areas. Populations are present from northwestern Nelson to the Buller River, the northwest coast (Hurunui River to Arthur's Pass), and the Paparoa Range,[1] as well as within the Lake Rotoiti Mainland Island.[21][22] The Southern Alps population is particularly isolated.[21] Great spotted kiwis reside in complex, maze-like burrows that they construct.[23] Up to fifty burrows can exist in one bird's territory.[24] They will often move around, staying in a different burrow every day.[18] Bird's Nest Fungus sometimes grows in these burrows.[25] Their habitat ranges in elevation from sea level to 1,500 m (4,900 ft), but the majority are concentrated in a range from 700 to 1,100 m (2,300–3,600 ft) in a subalpine zone. These kiwis will live in tussock grasslands, scrubland, pasture, and forests
The great spotted kiwi is nocturnal in behaviour.[17] If the kiwis live in an area lacking predators, they will come out in the day. At night, they come out to feed. Like other species of kiwi, they have a good sense of smell, which is unusual in birds.[14] Males are fiercely territorial.[21] At most, four to five kiwis live in a square kilometre.[25] One pair's territory can be 25 hectares (62 acres) in size. It is not known how they defend such a large territory in proportion to their size.[18] They will call, chase, or fight intruders out. Vocalisations of the great spotted kiwi include growls, hisses, and bill snapping.[25] Great spotted kiwi males have a call that resembles a warbling whistle, while the female call is harsh raspy, and also warbling

Good enough
There are 5 species of kiwi
Great spotted kiwi ✅
It’s interesting
I mostly just read the first and last paragraph when non seals are posted
kiwi is deliscious
Anyways gotta brush my teeth
I read through them usually 😊
Though it depends if I'm busy at that moment >.< I forgot to read some past ones
Indeed

👍🏼
Of course don’t get me wrong I don’t want to force you into reading if you are busy or something
Ye
Thats why you can search them in the search bar 🔍 by writing this
Yeah the egg is horrendous

They related to Elephant birds though, if I remember right o:
Who layed the biggest eggs known, I think

Might do elephant bird facts of the day tomorrow

Said “facts” instead of “animals”
So it doesn’t mess with the message count for the animals we have finished ✅
Maybe add a counter to the animal of the day
Third Animal species of the day (Nr. 228, islecord) :
Great spotted kiwi
Something like that
Maybe in the future 👍🏼
@modest isle here is a list with all pinnipeds we already had marked(idk a better word)
Thanks for making my job easier
I used to search and check what we finished
There are alot of seals left good 👍🏼
I’ll try to remember to update it
what

Why does he ask these questions?
Wait dondi is a dad ?
yes he is xd
What
@placid osprey
THIS IS THE BEST THING
Got him in February so I've had him for a few months
If you have any more pictures or videos please dm them to me, idk if flooding this channel full of that snake would technically count as spam or not
not like I'm spamming the same pic
True
I meant like, I’m making actual noise irl talking to it like a baby even thought it’s just an image, I was trying to say like I would sound like a madman out of context
Oh lmao
Ofc not
Awwwwww
I’m not very good at taking care of pets so that’s why I don’t really have any, which I think is better than getting them and just not taking care of them properly
I do genuinely love pets though
its definitely not for everyone
But snakes are fairly easy to keep so I think you could do it, just do your research and be responsible of course
It’s not so much of feeding, it’s more so forgetting to do things because I’m very bad about that
I get that
But I bet 100% that snake will live a long, healthy, and happy life with you
I hope so
I believe in you
Lol thanks
Does he have a name?
Chama
Another great image of the goober
He's a brazilian rainbow boa so I thought it was fitting for him to have a portugese name
And because the orange reminds me of a flame kinda lol
Nice, is he still a baby? Are they at max size or what?
He's a bit over a year old 3 feet currently
They should get around 5-6 feet
Lemme find a pic of an adult
Yeah they grow pretty slowly
That’s nice, means that if you need to buy a new enclosure or something it’s not like super urgent
true, I'm about to move him into a 120 gal tank
that'll keep him well for a while, might upgrade him to a bigger one later on though
Your snake is my favorite person in this discord now lol
Yeah, I think tanks like that are super expensive when they get to huge sizes right?
he is a nice little guy very bitey when I first got him but now he's pretty chill
Yeah they get pretty expensive
I forget what size exactly but I saw some glass tanks in like pet stores and they were like easily over 100 dollars
I've seen some 120 gallons go up to 500 its crazy
Ah, very spoiled little guy then lol
I got one on discount for abt 245
(As he should be spoiled ofc)
fortunately
indeed
yupyup
Did you like rescue them or how did you come across him?
Bought him from a breeder
I may rescue snakes later in life I'm not sure if I want anymore or not
I do love blood pythons
I would love to get one
Nice
Yeah I’ll have to look up blood pythons
In fact I’ll do that right now
They're big chonkers I've heard they're pretty smart
They’re so pretty
Fr
Easy excuse to let them eat your enemies “they are smart and escaped the cage” (joking ofc)
they only get around 4 feet I believe definitely not gonna be eating any humans
They are extra thicc
Maybe they can fit a human in there
if they need assistance eating any rapscallions be sure to cut them up into easy to digest bits
best way to hide a body, in your noodle
That is true
I want to like have a happy album with pictures of your cute snake but idk if that would be weird or not. Chama is a bundle of joy nonetheless
I’ll just have to ask for more snake pictures

I like making funny edits of them with arms

Yeah I've never played on it yet
started downloading legacy
Yes, I’m gonna have to play tomorrow though actually, sorry it’s really late and I wasn’t thinking

I’ve played more evrima than legacy though
I'm not going to be on tomorrow but maybe this upcoming weekend

Second Animal species of the day (230) :
Cuban crocodile
The Cuban crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer) is a small-medium species of crocodile endemic to Cuba. Typical length is 2.1–2.3 m (6.9–7.5 ft) and typical weight 70–80 kg (150–180 lb). Large males can reach as much as 3.5 m (11 ft) in length and weigh more than 215 kg (474 lb). Despite its smaller size, it is a highly aggressive animal (one of the most territorial of all crocodilians), and potentially dangerous to humans.
Range :
The Cuban crocodile is of interest to biologists, for its unique physical and behavioral traits. Long- and strong-legged, it is the most terrestrial of extant crocodiles. Its preferred habitat comprises freshwater and brackish water environments, such as mangrove swamps, coastal lagoons, estuaries, marshes, floodplains, and river deltas. There, the adults feed on fish, turtles and small mammals, while the young eat invertebrates and smaller fish. Mating occurs between May and July. Captive animals have displayed cooperative hunting behavior, and can be taught tricks, suggesting intelligence.
The Cuban crocodile is listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Once spread across the Caribbean, its range has dwindled to including only the Zapata Swamp and Isla de la Juventud, due to hunting by humans. Captive breeding projects are in place to help the species recover. The species fossil record reveals it had at one point a greater range, with fossil remains being found in The Bahamas,[4] Hispaniola (in the Dominican Republic), and the Cayman Islands
The Cuban crocodile has numerous characteristics that set it apart from other crocodilians, such as its brighter adult colors, rougher, more 'pebbled' scales, and long, strong legs. This is a small to mid-sized crocodilian. Typical adults were found to have measured 2.1 to 2.3 m (6 ft 11 in – 7 ft 7 in) in length and to have weighed 70–80 kg (150–180 lb).[9] Large males can reach as much as 3.5 m (11 ft) in length and weigh 215 kg (474 lb) or more.[10] Three individuals measuring 1.87 to 2.46 m (6 ft 2 in – 8 ft 1 in) and weighing 30–65 kg (66–143 lb) had a bite force of 1,392–3,127 N (313–703 lbf).
BIG HORNS THE RABBIT OF THE CROCODILIANS
Big horns + Long legs for galloping
Today, the Cuban crocodile can only be found in Cuba's Zapata Swamp and Isla de la Juventud, where it is highly endangered. It formerly ranged elsewhere in the Caribbean; fossils of this species have been found in the Cayman Islands,[12] The Bahamas[13][14] and Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic).[15]
The Cuban crocodile appears to favor freshwater habitat such as swamps, marshes, and rivers and rarely swims in saltwater.
Small fish, arthropods, and crustaceans make up the diet of young Cuban crocodiles. Adults of the species feed mostly upon small mammals, fish, and turtles. They have blunt rear teeth, which aid in crushing the shells of their turtle prey. Cuban crocodiles also demonstrate the jumping feeding technique seen in other crocodilians, such as the American alligator. By thrusting with their powerful tails, they can leap from the water and snatch small animals from overhanging branches.[19] The Cuban crocodile, while not a particularly large species, is often regarded as the most aggressive New World crocodile[20] and is behaviorally dominant over the larger American crocodile in areas where the two species coexist.[21] Data regarding attacks on humans are limited, but occurrences are likely rare given the species' very small distribution area and separation from human populations. Despite its reported aggression, there is only a single known fatal human attack by this species: an elderly man who was attacked and killed in 1995 while spearfishing in the Zapata Swamp
The mating season of the Cuban crocodile is between the months of May and July
the estimated incubation period is 58–70 days.

holyy yap
Thanks for letting me know, that wasn't meant to reach you but somebody else. You can ignore it.
Yes I am a bear too
When you trying to play modded MC with 125 mods but one of the 10 you updated is breaking it 💀
So you spend the next hour trying to figure out which one it was
Only to realize you accidentally opened the wrong modpack
So you open the correct modpack and there's 0 issues
Thus wasting the last hour of your life on something that wasn't even a problem to begin with
I thought having 50 mods was crazy. Then I have my friend who casually creates a server that has 300+ mods. This dude sometimes
How does his game even run with 300+ mods?
do need to pump up thee numbers ngl
300 mods 💀
Idk, but most of the load is put onto the server which he pays for a higher tier subscription I guess.
I think I still have the modpack, I'll see if I can find. He did say they removed several redundant mods and stuff they don't use (I wonder why)
Makes sense, I like the realistic mods that make the game look super pretty lol
Okay he's coming back to sanity.
Good
Wait depends on what is the game ?
I like those as well. But since my card is AMD, they have a harder time rendering graphics with the API that Minecraft uses.
Minecraft right ?
Yes
Oh ok
But that's not close to the mods he has for Ark. My game takes 600 gb thanks to him
I think I got to clean it up.
600 GB
When you have alot of mods you just need to find out what works together and also get some performance enhancing mods x)
Ugh I really want to get skyrim again and mod the hell out of it
I had it for PS4 but not PC
The thing is though, performance on the server isn't that bad, it's just the boatload of content now. And the mods are ridiculous. Like level 200+ creatures spawn like any other dino. Like what 💀
Granted, the dinos did get stat boosts and are harder to tame and some other stuff, but still
i need help with my computer, can anyone help with a windows problem
What's up?
i tried to update my computer to a newer windows version but it wouldn’t update. i tried some troubleshooting things but nothing worked, so i gave up on updating it and now when i try to play a game on steam, it says dx12 isn’t supported
Oh man that issue
I think that dx12 issue comes from windows corrupting
Did you make sure your drivers are up to date for your GPU?
Can you revert the update?
the update hasn’t happened
Yeah you need that version. We are currently on 22H2. So you've got quite the catchup. Download all the updates
By the way, do you know what cpu you have?
i don’t know what cpu i have
its a prebuilt computer i got from a birthday
its cyberpower
If your not updating yet, do ctrl, shift, esc all at the same time. and then it should open the task manager. After that, go to the performance tab and click on the CPU tab and see on the right side on top of the graph what cpu you have.
i don’t think the update will work so im going to do that now
ive tried to update at least 20 times
Dang
i did a clean boot
Did you do that in the middle of the update?
Oh ok
i have an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad-Core Processor
That could be the problem, since its an older processor. Just download the updates and try again.
the windows updates?
Yeah, download them
whenever the update finishes it says it will try again later
if i utilize my cpu more could that help?
But when you try to update before, you did download the updates beforehand
I don't think it would necessarily
my disk is maxing rn
That's okay, it means its writing data (downloading) onto storage
if i don’t have enough storage will that be a problem?
64.9 gb free
the update didn’t work
when i was first trying to update i would get a notification saying the update was ready and when i clicked on it nothing happened
it says “There were problems installing some updates, but we’ll try again later.”
Okay thats interesting. Would it hurt too much to reinstall windows? That could possibly fix some issues. Oh and what gpu do you have? forgot to ask earlier, and you can find it the same way as you did with the cpu
“Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H2 - Error 0xc1900223”
my gpu is Radeon RX 580 Series
I have the same gpu, and my cpu is even older. Something else is wrong
Go to settings, system and then about, check out version and os build and tell me what you see.
Yes, its not private information. I can tell you mine to compare
19045.3570
Oh yeah, your windows is outdated. Here I'll send you a link to a microsoft article that has a solution for it.
The solution apparently doesn't work for everyone so I hope it does work for you.
i have tried it before but i am going to try again
i closes settings and i think the “window” from the link restarted
maybe
it looks good rn
it's working?
No, that looks good
hopefully this works
Hey are you still able to play gate way? Because I've been dying to play it
Did it work @left palm
Enter the code in #announcements into the steam beta section
Where can I find the code
it’s restarting my pc rn
Ok, let me know if something else happens
im trying the troubleshooting
ignore the steam part
there are some things in the troubleshooting that i haven’t fully tried
Scroll up in #announcements , it’s a long random code with letters and numbers
i will try them tomorrow and then run the install again
Ok thank you
thank you for all the help
Ok, ping me when you try again and I'll try to walk you through it again. You could always call Microsoft Support to help. Whether they actually help, that's hopeful.
ok
I think jurassic world evolution 2 might be screwed
big sad, one of my favourite games, seems like it's not gonna get many more updates
Why
fronteir is laying off a bunch of their employees, which means they're gonna have to probably choose which one of their games they want to continue working on
and chances are, it'll be planet zoo, they clearly favor the game over jwe2
nooooo, and I was just about to get back into it
we're garanteed at least another update and dlc, but it might be the end
of course if they do continue the free updates will probably have much less content
I just hope that when they do end the game, they don't do it like the last game
Me after watching EP 5 of life on our planet:
that's it?, that's the dinosaur Focused episode,

stimsons, spotted and childrens are basically the same thing
but yeah its a children's
he's only a yearling
BABY
hmm i see
Benjamin with lettuce stuck on his beak
ohh! Is that your bird ? 😊
Cute he looks rare i have never seen a cyan one before
They are usually either blue or green
Like theses colors for example
Pink / beige nose = Female
Blue / dark nose = Male
@elder yarrow those spiders/snakes/crocs/sharks/jellyfish. Amiright tho 😂
I have no fear of them and I think they make AUS a unique place for people who have never had to worry about being stung/bit
I saw my first red belly black snake the other week XD
I came from NZ the worst thing we had was small huntsman. There’s literally no snakes over there and zoos weren’t even allowed them when I was there 10 years ago lol
bahaha yeahh I am half kiwi. They have more sheep over there than people. Can't say I am a huge fan of cave wetas tho lol
So coming to a place that was like always be mindful of where you step and swim etc was like. What have I entered..
Omg. Trying to explain to people what they are. I once had one bite me through my shirt. They’re the creepiest things I swear.
I did a cave walk and right near the exit where the light was shining through. I could feel something tickling my shoulder. I pointed my torch to the cave wall and right in front of my face was hundreds of large cave wetas with one still touching me with its antenna.
I wasn't mentally prepared. It made me quite uncomfy
Whyyyyyyy that would haunt me
I went to a glow worm cave over here and they had all these terrariums of various native species like frogs etc. but it was outside in the bush so there were the biggest huntsman I’d ever seen. You could see massive striped banding on their fuzzy legs. They were easily the size of a dinner plate. The whole time I was just like if these things come anywhere near me imma die.
I quite like hunstsman spiders. They kill all the other spiders, moths and other insects. Always named one Harry or Hunter if I saw one in my childhood home. I do not however like to be jump scared in my own car trying to use my sun visor
I like jumping spiders because they’re small and cute and that’s it. Huntsman’s are terrifying and I’m pretty sure they can run faster than me. Either way I don’t stick around to find out lol 😂
For some reason the jumping spiders that live in my window are massive like the size of a 10c piece
🥲 we have tiny ones here. Suburbia though ..we had a young stag in the front lawn earlier this week though lol
Yesh
He's sleepy now
He ate all me lettuce
Nvm he back to screaming
I use to have a little green and yellow boy with no black markings
Bois be chirpy
I just have crazy green cheek conures
He was pretty quiet compared to other budgies lol. I’ve heard some that scream. He just chatted to himself or me all day
Aww
He cute
Oh I wanted one of them.. the turquoise green cheeks are so pretty. I had a sun conure but despite living on an acre the neighbours complained so much about the noise that we had to rehome him to an older guy 😦 I still miss him. We’ve also had a Quaker who was 10 who was cool.
That sucks
Benjamin meanwhile still isn't aware of the lettuce stuck on his beak
He's obsessed with the doorknob
Probably because he sees himself there
Mine never learn to fly.. he wasn’t clipped and we tried to teach him. But the vet said he was a bit of a slow learner. Confirmed when he decided to land in the open top fish tank and I had to fish him out as he floated around like a duck lol
Take care of him
His colors are very rare he is cyan instead of blue
I like this size noodle. Nothing bigger lol. I wish we had hognose and smaller species like America
he is also considerably small
compared to others
How old is he
First Animal species of the day (231) :
Budgie bird / Budgerigar
The budgerigar (/ˈbʌdʒərɪˌɡɑːr, -əriː-/ BUJ-ər-ih-gar, -ə-ree-;[3] Melopsittacus undulatus), also known as the common parakeet, shell parakeet or budgie (/ˈbʌdʒi/ BUJ-ee),[3][4] is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot. Budgies are the only species in the genus Melopsittacus. Naturally, the species is green and yellow with black, scalloped markings on the nape, back, and wings.[5] Budgies are bred in captivity with colouring of blues, whites, yellows, greys, and even with small crests.[5][6] Juveniles and chicks are monomorphic, while adults are told apart by their cere colouring, and their behaviour.

The origin of the budgerigar's name is unclear. First recorded in 1805, budgerigars are popular pets around the world due to their small size, low cost, and ability to mimic human speech. They are likely the third most popular pet in the world, after the domesticated dog and cat.[7] Budgies are nomadic flock parakeets that have been bred in captivity since the 19th century. In both captivity and the wild, budgerigars breed opportunistically and in pairs.
They are found wild throughout the drier parts of Australia, where they have survived harsh inland conditions for over five million years. Their success can be attributed to a nomadic lifestyle and their ability to breed while on the move.[8] The budgerigar is closely related to lories and the fig parrots
Wild budgerigars average 18 cm (7 in) long,[6] weigh 30–40 grams (1.1–1.4 oz), 30 cm (12 in) in wingspan, and display a light green body colour (abdomen and rumps), while their mantles (back and wing coverts) display pitch-black mantle markings (blackish in fledglings and immatures) edged in clear yellow undulations. The forehead and face is yellow in adults. Prior to their adult plumage, young individuals have blackish stripes down to the cere (nose) in young individuals until around 3–4 months of age. They display small, iridescent blue-violet cheek patches and a series of three black spots across each side of their throats (called throat patches). The two outermost throat spots are situated at the base of each cheek patch. The tail is cobalt (dark-blue); and outside tail feathers display central yellow flashes. Their wings have greenish-black flight feathers and black coverts with yellow fringes along with central yellow flashes, which only become visible in flight or when the wings are outstretched. Bills are olive grey and legs blueish-grey, with zygodactyl toes

In their natural Australian habitat, budgerigars are noticeably smaller than those in captivity.[23] This particular parrot species has been bred in many other colours and shades in captivity (e.g. blue, grey, grey-green, pieds, violet, white, yellow-blue). Pet store individuals will commonly be blue, green, or yellow. Like most parrot species, budgerigar plumage fluoresces under ultraviolet light – a phenomenon possibly related to courtship and mate selection.
The upper half of their beaks is taller than the bottom half, covering the bottom when closed. The beak does not protrude much, due to the thick, fluffy feathers surrounding it, giving the appearance of a downward-pointing beak that lies flat against the face. The upper half acts as a long, smooth cover, while the bottom half is just about a half-sized cup-piece. These beaks allow the birds to eat plants, fruits, and vegetables.

Breeding in the wild generally takes place between June and September in northern Australia and between August and January in the south, although budgerigars are opportunistic breeders and respond to rains when grass seeds become most abundant.[6][5][22] Budgerigars are monogamous and breed in large colonies throughout their range.[36] They show signs of affection to their flockmates by preening or feeding one another. Budgerigars feed one another by eating the seeds themselves, and then regurgitating it into their flockmate's mouth. Populations in some areas have increased as a result of increased water availability at farms. Nests are made in holes in trees, fence posts or logs lying on the ground; the four to six eggs are incubated for 18–21 days, with the young fledging about 30 days after hatching
