I think the DEVs don't know where to go with the game. On one hand, they're following the dinosaur survival path, or on the other hand, they're focusing more on the lore with animals like the Strains and monsters like the Matriarch
The Isle is an innovative game with the theme of dinosaur survival, but I don't think that's the game's focus, and I think the developers miss out on a lot of potential by putting bizarre animals in the game.

Carnivores have no reason to follow herbivores other than just the general interest in combat. Since Carnivores are entirely self reliant, and are in fact, actively discouraged from following migrations via the zone delay.

That... also generally doesn't have a huge impact since herbivore populations are still extremely low, and it only further encourages carnivores to be co reliant. Unless you are playing on a server with other forms of free food, or drastically inflated player counts, it's unlikely to cause a major shift in player behavior.

More herbivores wont make carnivores dependant on herbivores, it wont make migrations good, it wont make diets good, it wont fix anything about any of the core mechanics. It won't change how food is balanced, it won't suddenly make herbivores any more appealing.
It'll just have a little more diversity running around. Carnivores will still be the dominant population because that is the type of game you are playing.

Well, they are attracting players, very effectively. A large chunk of players are totally fine with the direction the game is going, and are able to enjoy the simple novelty of running around as a dinosaur. That is more than enough for a lot of people. Once large populations of NPC dinos start roaming about... all the better!
Those players, of which there are many, will be totally fine with that.
Also, no, it would not be easier to design a game ecosystem handled and sustained by players in a semi realistic way.

I would still prefer if the skins were mostly in line with eachother. From a set selection of course, but still all together looking normal in a group... like, having a tiger stripe raptor alongside a current default raptor wouldn't look all that odd if the colors and patterns were adjusted accordingly.
Mainly I think they need to be preset because Isle devs don't seem to know how to make smooth transitions between color regions, or have the skins be higher than 1080p
