There should be a strain tree that, if approached, digs its roots into your legs, then spreads throughout the inside of your body over the course of like 30 seconds turning you into a living statue. Going super gruesome with the sound design as well, crunching, writhing flesh, groans of pain from your creature. Once you become completely immobile, unable to even turn your head or close your mouth, you'll still be alive and breathing heavily but realistically, you're already basically dead.

I think that would be really cool.

Yeah, to be honest though I always felt that was just a symptom of their combat. Because long drawn out fights, unless they were a hit and run from smaller creatures attacking a larger creature, never worked well. It just wasnt fun, and often took you out of it. But to that end I think when they leaned into it, it created a really tense atmosphere around stuff like... deciding to walk out into a clearing, doing anything intentionally as a juvie, drinking water, or just... existing in general.

Even with Deino I do not feel the same level of dread as I did in legacy, while deciding to run towards a river in a small clearing to grab a drink. That feeling of anxiety, especially with juvies, is simply not present in Evrima... for a large multitude of reasons...

Even though the stakes have increased, the investment in the survival of the creature did not increase along with it. Rather, it feels even more like a chore now. There isn't any real challenge involved.

The quest requirements themselves have absolutely nothing to do with survival, they do not test your survival skills, they do not reflect the skill or knowledge of the player, they only test if you know about it or the players ability to walk from point A to point B...

It doesn't even accurately reward players for engaging with the core mechanics the way they should be, since if you stuck to your assigned migration zone, you wouldn't be able to complete the requirement... unless you repeatedly left and re entered it but I am assuming that's a bug.

Prime being all but a requirement seals the fate of the system. It just doesn't work as it is now. It would be better off being a forced system with no requirements. Entombment and the 4th mutation is fine, and the mesh morph is cool, but ultimately if there were no requirements and elders were scaled down significantly, it would probably just be a better experience overall.
