before you couldn't be in south plains because of how unoptimized it was and even if you could you would get like 20 fps. on a 3070

Currently they are tied, if you disable lumen, you disable all reflections. However, lumen reflections are broken right now, horrifically so, so I switched it over to SSR, and took multiple measures to beat lumen reflections to death with a hammer.

Alright, so I'm caught in the space between two hells right now.

When making the game the devs did two things that I am now fairly certain about... they set r.RayTracing to 0, and in the project settings they set their reflection method to Lumen. This accomplishes two things... and also explains why none of my stuff was working properly.

When I was editing SSR settings before, I was accomplishing practically nothing, even though r.Lumen.Reflections.Allow is set to 0, lumen reflections were still active, that explains why I experienced very little performance variation, and the only visual impact was just... more accurate lumen SSR, without using those screen probes to inaccurately create water reflections, I was just killing one small part, not lumen reflections entirely. When I did that, it just exclusively uses SSR. MEANING- when you turn off lumen in the config, or in the in-game settings, it turns off all reflections, with no exceptions. There is no SSR because the game is not capable of using SSR, it's only using Lumen. The engine was lying to me, so I was just walking in circles trying to figure out why the SSR settings werent working when the game was never using SSR in the first place.

However, they also turned Ray Tracing off, when exporting the game, they did not export it with Ray Tracing capabilities at all... Doing that ensures that there is no way to enable RT in the engine.ini, the devs need to be the ones to export the game with that functionality. meaning settings like hardware RT, or any lumen settings that use a ton of information from the rest of the environment IE. actual RT water reflections through lumen, the game breaks, fatal errors, or just refuses to launch. No amount of killing individual features, trying to force it to use certain settings, or messing with the RT values, will change that. Taking the water reflections for instance... there is no possible way for me to change the engine.ini in a way that meaningfully changes the quality of the reflection. So basically I can't do anything to meaningfully improve the water reflections, or make the reflections appear without lumen enabled. It's all or nothing, and the all is kinda garbage.

HOWEVER- There is some definite weirdness to it, even beyond that. Certain human structures, mainly ones at the port, do have proper reflections for some reason, and I have absolutely no idea what the game could be doing to have that occur. I am stumped, I can't figure that out.

So basically...
I'm wasting my time.

I can't fix the reflections, I can't change them to Raytraced, I can't even change anything to do with SSR, it doesn't work like that. So I've just been running in circles for ages.

Oh, also, the reason the game is still able to reflect light from things that are off screen is because it handles global illimination a little differently, using screen probes to gather light information and bounce it back at objects on screen. It's still there because it's not all that performance intensive and can be run fine with software lumen.

So global illumination, although handicapped in the same way as reflections, is still present.

myself and many have been facing this issue. I comes and goes unfortunately which makes me feel there is an ingest issue. The best thing I have found is after many attempts its best to let it sit as you might be being picked up by DDOS protection, from my experiencing running other servers. Come back to in in an hour or so and within 2 attempts you should get in. It has been working for me and those I know at least

Incredibly buggy right now. You have to get the perfect angle. I find assist makes it harder currently. The hit box on tree type of herbi food is more on the outside of it.

Id recommend not to play herbivores until they fix it. Was able to get to prime trike despite it being buggy but at prime, the amount of time trying to eat the food takes more time than the food it provides

Fun workaround for my login problems: I try to join the official server with my saved dino = server full / disconnected. Then try to join Petit Pieds. It lets me in with my saved dino from the official server while saying im im PP, but I'm not.
