This is a known bug that can crop up from time to time unfortunately, and there's nothing us admins can do about it ourselves. Rarely, even if you safe log, the server may essentially get confused and not load your creature- sometimes force quitting and relogging back in can restore it, but if not, your creature is gone.

If you didn't safe log, however, your creature does still stay in game for a few minutes- it can be killed by other players, die of exposure, etc in that timeframe.
