Yeah it's pretty close indeed. The pose is, but all of the rest isn't. Taking reference is all part of the process of drawing, for every artist. If you are an artist you can understand that. I took the base pose as a reference, but the linework is different (maybe you can't see because of bad quality here), the colors aren't on the original, and especially all of the background. So I wouldn't say "heavily", and it's not a theft, because I took a reference for 1 part of the drawing and not the whole drawing itself. It's like you want to draw a car, you will take a reference of the car but you will change the colors or some details, because it's very hard to draw a car only from imagination..you know?
But I totally agree I should have credited the artist and I'm sorry I forgot to do that 🙂

yeah, the main issue was not crediting him, which to be fair you say you forgot. ill be optimistic here and agree, but too often do people either blatantly heavily reference another artist or trace another artists work, edit it a little and claim it as theirs. so frustrating to see when the original artist probably spend a good deal of time on the pieces being stolen.

The isle raptors actually have a good reason to have slit pupils. Much like foxes and kitty cats, the isle Utahraptors hunt in tall grass and crouch very low to the ground, therefore needing some eye improvements of that caliber

The circles are guides for the general size and layout you want something to be. Some people use circles others use squares or other geometry. It's like laying out blueprints before you commit to the actual drawing

my utah and Dilo are not detailed AT ALL. heck, they took me a few seconds each, i never took my hand off the tablet really. its all just lines. lines that meet together and make pretty stuff. take a gander close and see how loose I am. get comfortable making mistakes, try not to erase ( I struggle with this) and enjoy your art. If you dont enjoy it, stick it in a book somewhere to forget about it, open it in a few years and get a few laughs at how much you improved. 🙂

The skull looks a little bit curve tbh, the way it’s shaped (only talking about the top edge of the skull) on the original is fine as is.

It looks like it’s broken. Both up and down.

Pantherinae actually are specialised in hunting at night! This is a way of coping with the diurnal hunting of the machairodontinae they lived with!

Of course they would become more active during the day after their extinction!

Altough slit pupils do help organisms see at night, they are especially usefull in lower to the ground predators like foxes and kittens but even crocs! Helps them see their prey clearly with plant like obstructions such as tall grass in the way! Ho Ho

@last quartz looks great, just as feedback since you asked, pls don't take anything personal, i'm just telling you my personal opinion as non professional. ok so I'd maybe try get more muscle mass and little bone detail at the ribcage to have it look more fragile and natural since you formed some other muscles too. I'd also add a little more flesh/muscle at the very beginning of the tail, just as transition, it's sticking out a bit imo. and get some small knee details in maybe, i adore those legs, very well done! nice work keep it up!

Basically if you were to take the orthographic of the model and hold it up to the concept art. I matched the proportions to that. And no, it's not the finished model. It still needs some details on the legs and snout and then all the feathers to it to match the concept.

So basically I still have to take it over to blender, put the high res onto the low res, then make feathers, then add feathers, then color the whole thing and add even more detail cause I'm hoping to go for a very hyper realistic render with it.

Yeah I did the basic shaping in blender and was going to do the whole thing but then I got zbrush core and I find a lot of it's brushes just work better. so I'm getting the basic details in now with it. I'll have to go to blender and retopo and stuff. But yeah. Oh. I don't know about playable. I'm not THAT good yet. I haven't learned/practiced retopo with animation in mind yet at all. and that's a really important thing to keep in mind when modeling for games.

I am however working on models for the zombie survival game my hubby and I will be making. But that's a different subject. Voxel/destructable world in UE5 with realistic graphics is the goal.

Yeah. I had a few issues as well. But learning how to use dyno mesh, subdivide, and such and getting better practice with it helps lower those Issues I've found. I'm using Blender 3 now. FlippedNormals is great. Grant Abott does a great video on all the brushes in detail as well that helped me a lot.
