Dinos are a bitch to draw. I used to do a lot as a kid and then switched to normal animals, then humans, and now i cant draw animals XD lots of time and practice goes into it. I've found for dinos it helps to get a LOT of screenshots of them from ingame

so line work, brush selection, perpective and sizing etc are all skills i dont have

I think as long as you act like an animal and simply survive (no matter how you do it), you're playing the game the way Dondi intended. No predator is going to move around unless they have to. If they don't have to move around to get food or water, they're gonna be asleep or resting. So realistically speaking, the utahs who live at shipyard are the most true to real life predators. And that's why I like The Isle; it's more fun to play as a realistic animal in an ecosystem rather than anthropomorphizing it, mixing in human-like goals and emotions, and doing unnatural things like NOT resting and hiding out when you normally would be... and essentially just wasting energy because "resting around is boring".

@storm terrace what I typically do is look at different kinds of modern animals today that resemble the dinosaur most, ex: Birds of Prey for a raptor, you can take certain features and apply them to the dinosaur, also I do suggest looking at skeletons from different angles, and the best place to go is a museum since a lot of pictures in the internet can be mostly inaccurate, that’s my advice

I also use sketchfab for dinosaur bone study. Use any internet resources you can; study the bone stucture and label the names of bones then move on to muscles. Study birds like cassowaries, emus and similarly ground-dwelling birds. Compare anatomies between extinct and extant dinosaurs and note the changes. Listen to a dino podcast. There are books on animal anatomy that are very helpful. Honestly I don't worry about using flat reference or real life; there's likely very miniscule difference to do with depth of field but if you study enough it won't matter. Do all of these things interchangeably however you like.

Study birds in particular; their bones and muscles will be mostly the same (most all vertebrates have similar muscle layout in different proportions even fish have similar pectoral muscles etc)

There are also online courses you can do; my favourite artist Terryl Whitlatch has a course on schoolism, but Artstation also released a learning section recently for subscibers.

Oh, SPEAKING OF ARTISTS, look up JAMES GURNEY and either buy his books or watch his youtube channel, lots of great content.
