and i guess i got stuck this quick and need a quick help 😅
so the way i was going to transform the pose when i finish it, was by using sculpt brushes to drag it to right place

then i realized, "what if as soon as i finish the deinon sculpt, i make a quick rig for it this way it'd do less bad deformations?"
whats your opinion?

now that i think of it, making a rig actually sounds like the common sense

I would for sure think that making a rig for the model might be the easiest option. That way, you can pose the model in any other way later on. Or even animate it.

knowing i will surely edit the mesh im not sure if that rig would carry on, so i was surely thinking of making another one down the line as i finish the model
but if remeshing and adding geomtry wont affect it then that would be cool

@torn cape you texture the feathers on the skin then layer some feathers on top to get a 3 dimensional silhouette

this is a good reference on how I'd use hair cards where only a small amount of the model is actually hair cards

this is fur but feathers will have a similar creation process

For the skin texture just bake the feathers onto the skin

The eyes are a bit wet, and are likely taking on the colors of the lighting, which I'd change, but I'm trying to keep that consistent. For now, consider it a custom skin lol

You don't need to be a professional artist to enter. It is so much fun to just draw other peoples characters. You can do the silliest drawings and nobody will shame you for it. I have even seen a few people without any art experience pull out ms paint to create some silly stuff :D

Thank you! I made them in substance painter. The scales were sculpted onto the high poly model in zbrush and then turned into normal maps for the low poly model.

If you want an app on your PC, I'd recommend Krita! It can be a lil daunting at first, the ui is a bit funky lookin but it can be adjusted/customised a little bit to look how you want

you can get free brush packs to download

plus there is lots of pen options for stability and such if youre worried about precision!

This is correct. No text in the screenshots channel means exactly what it says. Some people think cause the text "isn't bad" that the rule doesn't apply to them. Though more often than not, people just post without reading the posting rules. Same with people that post a novel worth of text in #isle-fan-art when it says a brief description only.

The reason behind those particular rules is because people say awful things, have wildly inappropriate names etc. And we don't have the time or the inclination to sit there and sift through everyone's screenshots for inappropriate text or edits, or read a paragraph+ worth of a fan art description. So it needs to be legit "at a glance".

This channel exists to allow artists to talk at length about their work without issue. But anything that violates the posting rules does indeed get nuked indiscriminately. So you told them right. I'm just adding a little more info for those that may have been fuzzy on it. Follow the posting rules and nobody should have any issues.

The split lower jaw for style that shows up a lot always bugs me, purely because it would make the power of the bite so much weaker. Snakes have that purely for swallowing, but you only get real crushing power from solid jaws, like Gators or Rex.

It looks cool as all heck, not doubt, but it looks fragile to me too.

It depends which kind of commission but for an icon/bust like what I just posted it's around 4 days, each being around 2h of work (adding to IRL job, hence why longer time) - But may depends on the whole complexity and how inspired I am

For personal pieces as icons I wrap it up in a day tho lol

@fiery scarab yeah finding references can be tough, im a dinosaur artist so i luckily have a lot of dilophosauras artwork i can reference from myself. But if theres anything i ever dont have references of, i tend to try and use a mix of pintrest, google, and artstation for refs

The way I’m tryna model it is you need like every angle so the top down side front and dibb just happens to not have any

yeah i mean u need a muscle anatomy reference probably

and u can always use an existing reference for a different ceratopsian and then just edit it down to the correct shapes later on, u just want the general kind of like "silhouette" first anyway, from what ive learned so far with blender

True ceratopsian are the so hard to sculpt mainly the head the rest isn’t that bad

ceratopsians are hard to draw/model period lol. Their heads are extremely big and proportionally clunky. i made my first model (still trying to rig/color it) a triceratops and did end up having to adjust the head size to match the body lol

undersize head syndrome is unfortunately going to happen with ceratopsians haha
