repeat until 16 mutations. but even then you can entomb after that, it will replace the 4 you picked in the previous life with those that you picked in this life, and still upgrade their stats
the larger hexagons are your current life mutations, the smaller ones are previous/inherited ones

Biggest tip that saved me was using a video to learn the ai calls, make sure you are playing with headphones and hold the sniff button and do that constantly. Also there are interactive maps that you can use to navigate with the cords in the tab menu. Also make sure you watch a video on what you specific Dino can do, there are a lot of moves that are not taught in game
