As title says, I have this setup with 9 brass ingots inside, I fill the firepit with stick bundles and use the bellows to make it yellow and above. I also tried with a pit forge and it doesn't work, and placing the basin directly on top of the forge just makes it unable to be lit. What am I doing wrong?

fire pit doesn't give create heat iirc try using a charcoal forge under it
or just use kaolin clay blocks for glass pouring

For the metal block you can also make a block mold and use it with 9 ingots in the alloy smelter.

I mean yeah that's how I made the wrought iron block for the press, I just wanted to figure out a way of making more blocks without requiring power

nah, make glass panes instead, 16 at a time, macerate them into glass dust, and smelt that into a block

It's cheaper to make 4x4 glass panes, macerate and them smelt into glass blocks.

You can smelt the kaolin powder if you don't have clay anymore.

3 glass panes gives you a glass block. one batch gives you also one block. or 16 panes. the latter is better when you don't have a steady source of saltpeter yet
or. just go to where you dug up the clay and dig up some more

yes
only HV and above macerators give second slot outputs

For ulv, is it best to just use a hammer when mining and wash the ores?
primitive age, yes. once you get the create grinding wheels, get the raw ore and run it through those.
then you can look into ore washer, centrifuge, thermal centrifuge etc which will give you by-products

redstone is the only ore where mining the raw ore amd smelting it is the right way to do it.

only with create hose pulley, which needs LV, which needs red and blue steel
put the fan in situ at the lava source and power it with a windmill
