i've seen similar thing on NGL (re pic)

think this could be useful addition for people who wish to have like focused debates and more in depths talks about some topic without getting interupted by all the memey noise in #off-topic
(we should prolly limit additions to the forums to HU+)

yes threads exists, but they're hard to find (like zero discoverability) and navigate tbh, forum channels aren't best in that way either but way less pain

and as for moderation, i believe it'll be manageable, we got plenty of HUs nowadays to report stuff and anyone else is also invited to make a ticket if they see wrong doing

in general i think it's foolish to try to make #off-topic into less noise filled channel and having place where more focused and mature convos can take place in would make everyone happier

(by no means i think we should ban mature convos in #off-topic (provided they dont break other rules), but i think having place for them specifically would lighten the mood to both sides)
